Brazil "A Hostage..." , and the new My Chemical Romance.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy. I hope you like. That's crazy. Oh boy oh boy oh boy.

Man I like all the artists that that sheed dude said, cool person. (well, as cool as me ...)
I haven't fully given it a decent listen yet, but I like it so far.

br3ad_man 08-17-2004 12:18 AM

I'm going hardcore with the Elliott Smith lately. I'm also listening to some Josh Groban.

Tapeworm 08-17-2004 12:29 AM

I'm still stuck to Jeff Buckley, and I was listening to The Smiths this morning. Ryan Adams is kicking me in the back of the leg too.

Man I really hope you love Jeff Ihate. It's so exciting to watch as someone hears him for the first time.

Tangy zizzle 08-17-2004 12:56 AM

Fugazi fo' my ass.

I always feel like the coolest person ever when I get someone into him, hehe.

Little Man being Erased 08-17-2004 06:25 AM

I'm really diggin' Death Cab for Cutie a lot lately. And also The Postal Service. They are both so awesome. I have been liking them for a little while now but I only just got Transatlanticism and Give Up today. I've already listened to them both a couple of times and they are brilliant.

Happymeal 08-17-2004 06:47 AM

The first time I heard Jeff was last year,Everybody Here Wants You..gives me chills all the time. It made me wanna buy Sketches just for that song:lol:

Just a few minutes ago my friend told me about this band, and instantly got into The Fall Of Troy(screamo that sounds like DEP but much more melodic). Their song "Ghostship Part Four" reminds me of The Mars Volta/ATDi. I don't know if anyone else here knows about them, but you can check 'em out on Purevolume.

Jellyspoon 08-17-2004 07:04 AM

^More melodic than 'Calculating Infinity' or 'Miss Machine'?

Happymeal 08-17-2004 07:16 AM

Yup, but they sing a lot more and are not as chaotic as DEP(though they remind me of Miss Machine). I'm new to DEP myself, sorry I can't think of any other band that sounds like them..I dunno..I find them pretty good. You guys should check 'em out. www.purevolume.com/thefalloftroy All the songs there are great.

Tapeworm 08-17-2004 07:33 AM

I just found out that Damien Rice is touring Australia, and instantly purchased my tickets. I can see a long binge coming on.

br3ad_man 08-17-2004 05:39 PM

I assume he's coming to Brisbane. I bet they made it an over 18 show, just to spite me :upset:

Is the venue a pub?

guitardrummer54 08-17-2004 06:48 PM

Lately i have been listening to a lot of grunge and alternative music like pearl jam, janes addiction, stone temple pilots, and audioslave

Little Man being Erased 08-17-2004 06:50 PM

Yeh, Damien Rice is at The Tivoli. It's 18+. Un-bloody-lucky.

Are you from STL...If so I had no idea they had concerts there

Spitshine Sonata 08-17-2004 07:16 PM
I'm going hardcore with the Elliott Smith lately. I'm also listening to some Josh Groban.
Josh Groban is not my style but what a voice...you can not mess with that :chug:

Spitshine Sonata 08-17-2004 07:19 PM

Jeff Buckley.....whats the big deal with this guy...I don't mean that in a bad way...but I have listened to tid bits of him...and he has good basslines...I cant stand his voice on everybody wants you...I listen to another though and not bad.

Little Man being Erased 08-17-2004 07:21 PM
Are you from STL...If so I had no idea they had concerts there
bettis_63 08-17-2004 09:50 PM
Currently into the Meat Puppets. I'd only heard the Nirvana covers before this week. They're a great band.
The exact same thing is going on with me. I recommend meat puppets II, i just got it and its great.

Luxor 08-17-2004 09:56 PM

I baught 3 albums today.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Source Tags & Codes
Godspeed You Black Emporer! - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
Bob Dylan - These Times They Are A Changin'

I finally got the Godspeed album, I've only had a few MP3's for so long. I got it for a bargain too, Best Buy had it for $18.99, instead of $31.99 at HMV.

I decided to pick up the Trail Of Dead album, mostly because I've heard it's so good, I've only heard 2 songs by them.

Excellent choices. Especially Source Tags!
Excellent choices. Especially Source Tags!
Yeah, I really love this forum. It's gotten me into so many good bands that I don't think I would have found on my own.
Yeh, Damien Rice is at The Tivoli. It's 18+. Un-bloody-lucky.
pwned again. I'm getting used to it.

Tapeworm 08-18-2004 06:35 AM

You'll get your turn. Or you'll get your fake ID. I only just turned 18, so I know how you feel man.

Jellyspoon 08-18-2004 07:16 AM

In the UK, I have never seen a gig that had an age limit on it. Ever. I feel sorry for you guys.

moderaterock222 08-18-2004 07:18 AM
In the UK, I have never seen a gig that had an age limit on it. Ever. I feel sorry for you guys.
I've seen quite a few and attended two over 18's gigs...one being Tom Mcrae In manchester Life Cafe, and the Other being Ed Harcourt at Chesters telfords warehouse.
It tends to be the small, club type venues.

AfroMan 08-18-2004 03:23 PM

Most gigs in Scotland have an age limit of 14 and over or 18 and over.............

I think you can get into 14 and over if your with an adult though.

barbieman420 08-18-2004 04:38 PM
Ok so heres a semi-new idea for a thread. Basically, you just post what ever song, album or artist you have really been liking at the moment. If it's a new band you could put a little bit about them, good songs etc...

So if this works well enough, we could maybe get it sticky'd ( Nacho? ).

Well, a cool new(ish) band I've been listening to alot lately is These Arms Are Snakes . They are a post-hardcore,art punky band who have one EP out called This is Mean to Hurt You.

Good songs to check out would be:

The Blue Rose
Drinking From the Necks of Loved Ones
Run it Through the Dog
Riding the Grape Dragon

---------------------------------------

I have been listening to Neil Young's Rust Never Sleeps alot lately and have come to the conclusion that it is my favourite Neil Young album. Definately check it out!

---------------------------------------

Television - Friction is one incredible song. Ahead of it's time.

If you guys think this is a shitty idea for a thread just say so. If not, update with new stuff whenever you feel the need.
This isnt a new band or anything but the pixies 'doolittle' album is pretty good.

Tangy zizzle 08-18-2004 05:42 PM
I'm kind of getting into Drive Like Jehu and Hot Snakes through a friend, but I'm digging the hell out of Mercury Rev. Boces is supoib. It's one of those albums that comes along every once in a while and blows you away completely.
I plug those bands non-stop and you're only now deciding to get into them!

br3ad_man 08-18-2004 09:27 PM
You'll get your turn. Or you'll get your fake ID. I only just turned 18, so I know how you feel man.
Yeah, I know. I'm turning 16 pretty soon, so after that only 2 years to go.

Tangy zizzle 08-18-2004 10:14 PM
So maybe you were kind of a factor :p but DLJ > Hot Snakes.
Damn right I was! Hot Snakes > DLJ :p

Tomahawk 08-18-2004 10:42 PM

I'm extremely digging Big Black right now. Awesome stuff

And I'm really liking Dillinger Escape Plan's new album. More accessable than their other stuff, which is a good thing, says I.

Also digging the Melvins, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Secret Chiefs 3.

Luxor 08-18-2004 10:49 PM

I've been so busy lately, I haven't even had time to fully get into all the music I've gotten recently. Too much music! Too little time!

br3ad_man 08-19-2004 12:29 AM

Which album do you like best? I think I prefer Atomiser

Tangy zizzle 08-19-2004 12:51 AM

I'm liking the new Datsuns disc. It's a little different than the debut, a little moodier. It's still just good, fun rock n roll. Can't wait to see 'em live again... only 3 more weeks! Yaye for me.

Little Man being Erased 08-19-2004 01:39 AM

Go the Datsuns!! They are one very good live band. They absolutely blew me away when I saw them in April last year. I have only listened to their new album a few times but I think it is growing on me.

clown_phobia 08-19-2004 01:41 AM

THE VINES! Craig Nicholls is god!

I like the fact that they aren't trying to be artsy or pretensious. The new album has got pretty poor reviews from what I've seen, but they will always have an excellent live show. They play solid music, and that's the way it should be!

Tapeworm 08-19-2004 08:01 AM

The Datsuns are freaky cool.

I just listened to Jeff Buckley - Live at Sin-e for the first time before, and it is the best live album I've ever heard. Amazing, and a must have for any Buckley fan. The rawness and emotion of the songs contrasted with Jeff's casual talking to the audience and jokes and mocking of other songs is just awesome.
