Cool
Their cover of Halloween is also miles better than the orginal.
Everyone knows the misfits aren't exactly awesome at musicianship, they just wrote some really catchy tunes. Also AFI's original of Totalimmortal is better than Offspring's cover.

honkybrewster 08-02-2005 09:20 AM

Yeah, the Offspring version bothered me. But COME ON! Without the Misfits we might not even have AFI.

albert_bass 08-02-2005 09:22 AM

I've never really liked them. Only Static Age and to an extent... and I like several of their other songs but that's all, American Psycho for example.

Agreed. The outro gives me the willies every time I listen to it.

maco 08-02-2005 11:52 AM

Actually, look at the tracklistng INSIDE the the All Hallows EP. Halloween comes last. Now look at inside of the handle part of the case. It says "Boo!" on BSITS it says "Beyond and to all time I stand" and on AOD it says "Battled." Since BSITS and AOD both have things about the bonus track, Boo! would logically have to be about a bonus track too. Because Halloween is listed last inside, that means it was originally supposed to be track 4, which would make that end stuff a bonus track titled Boo! except that Alan Forbes messed up the tracklisting in his art and Nitro found it easier to simply rearrange the songs than actually photo-edit the artwork (Nitro's lazy like that. 6 years later and Last Kiss & Weathered Tome are STILL switched). In conclusion, that music is not an outro, but a misplaced bonus track titled Boo!

kerr69 08-03-2005 02:34 AM

they rock i like the songs over exsposure and day of the phenox

fatwreckpunk 08-03-2005 07:45 AM

maco... do you know everything about this band ? sounds like you are more obsessed to them than my girlfriend. Her whole room is completly covered in AFI stuff from vinyls /posters to lit bar signs

Ok. :upset:

I never noticed the Boo! thingy. I always thought they did a creepy thing at the end since the song is about Halloween.

fatwreckpunk 08-03-2005 07:55 AM

i noticed it but i didnt know what it was to do with

there was a lot of discussion about Boo! probably 3 times since I joined the AFI board a year ago, so I've kind of learned it....I went through an obsessive phase like a year ago where I learned a bunch, but I don't go hunting for info (anymore). I started a fansite, but it's not done. I *plan* to have as many text interviews as I can find on there too...

FlamingCouch 08-03-2005 10:36 AM

I dig em.

wicky428 08-10-2005 02:33 PM

I can't stand them, i find Davey Havock's vocals whiny and annoying.

El_Shiznit 08-10-2005 02:34 PM

I can't stand you.

But you did revive my favorite thread, so thanks I guess.

who's more whiney, the whiney singer, or the whiney jerkoff on the internet who whines about it?

Sleeper 08-10-2005 03:00 PM

I don't consider Davey's vocals whiny.

albert_bass 08-10-2005 03:11 PM

I like Davey's vocals. It's a clearly recognizable style and his singing is good.

wicky428 08-10-2005 03:25 PM

Sorry people, i just don't like them. I suppose everyone's entitled to their own opinion even if you think it's wrong or right.
Sorry people, i just don't like them. I suppose everyone's entitled to their own opinion even if you think it's wrong or right.
I think your other post was pretty correct. Well the correct thing to say would be polite.

maco 08-11-2005 01:46 AM
I like Davey's vocals. It's a clearly recognizable style and his singing is good.
yeah, i love his singing

fatwreckpunk 08-11-2005 04:33 AM

i think as his voice is so distinctive, this makes him a good singer. He is not the same as all other punk singers around. Unique = good

Oz Rembrandt 08-11-2005 07:56 AM

I do like Daveys vocals. More now than back during "Answer that...", but they are pretty distinctive, and he can hold notes well, and hit high ones well too.

fatwreckpunk 08-11-2005 09:28 AM

i think they used to be a bit whiney, now it doesnt bother me so much

SkateNate83 08-11-2005 02:15 PM

I went and saw them on thier "Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes" tour in a local club here in Houston and it was freakin great. After that they became my favorite band for quite some time(hence the tattoo). AFI was great all the way up until after "The Art OF Drowning". After that I kind of slowly but surely stop listening to them. It just seemed like he was trying to hard to be emo. :(

RCVA 08-11-2005 02:44 PM

You'd think you'd have run out of things to talk about by now...

slit_21 08-11-2005 02:52 PM

I dont really like them. they are really winey and kind of depresseing but i havent hear all of there stuff

cheeser_1 08-11-2005 03:07 PM

why does no one understand what emo is? why? these people keep talkin, it's like god is shitting in my ears, 24-7.

Hep Kat 08-11-2005 04:04 PM

the best fooking punk band ever

skaterdan07 08-11-2005 04:18 PM
Im getting really tired of people putting bands down just because they make smart business decisions!
Would you rather they stay underground so only a handful of people can hear them?
The truth is, despite what people say, this is these peoples JOBS! This is how they make a living and earn money to feed their families. Granted, you can be "in it just for the music" but c'mon! They signed to Dreamworks to 1) Get out to a wider audience, nothing wrong with that, and 2) TO EARN SOME MONEY! People need money to live. If you dont think so, go live under a bridge and eat out of the garbage.
A band gets successful, wants to spread their fan base, wants to make smart decisions, they get labelled as sell outs by geeks who dont want anyone to enjoy a band but themselves. It happened to Green Day after American...., happened to Alkaline Trio, its now happened to AFI
The fact is, AFI are a successful band, and my opinion is, your jealous.

And, fyi, theres only about 2 songs on the whole of the Sing The Sorrow album, their major label debut, that would get onto MTV.

Now go die.

Rant over.
Thank you finally someone who understands!!! i mean ya some bands may have "soldout" but hey what about all the bands in the 80's they had music videos... did they sellout? and ya greenday "soldout" i dont care too much for there new album but if you had a chance to make a major comeback like they did with all the publisity they got from it i wouldnt hesitate to do the same. they proabably made 5mil easily off that album and such. AFI is still good no matter what old and new are both good but not as equal... Amen

Sleeper 08-11-2005 05:52 PM
I dont really like them. they are really winey and kind of depresseing but i havent hear all of there stuff
I recommend you listen to there older stuff. A lot of funny/cool songs.
