i'm shocked at how few drummers people are nominating. there were more bassists nominated than drummers which is odd. i really hope moses lets cobham and morgenstein in, even though morgenstein wont get any other votes.
Most people arent familiar with drummers, its mostly guitarist and vocalists that get the fame. |
Yeah, personally I don't know that many drummers, and even if I did, I don't have a good enough knowledge of the instrument to really have a worthy opinion of who's better than who.
|
i sure hope Keith Moon winds....
but I would be happy if Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, Ringo Starr, or Mitch Mitchell wins, though all those 4 aren't nearly as popular as Ulrich, Moon, and Bonham. |
I suppose I'd be happy if Moon wins, but this poll really doesn't matter that much to me. He's so fun to watch though.
|
i'm like the only person who nominated a huge list. i feel lame. haha.
|
Ulrich really isn't that popular on these forums outside of the Metallica fanboys. He'll do no better then James did in the vocalist poll.
|
bonham'll beat out moon if it comes down to that though. the metalheads love zeppelin and the who is actually relatively little known outside this thread and the featured artist on them. i'm not dead set against bonham but i think there are far better drummers who could take that spot.

Yea, this is true. Still, I would like Bonham, Moon, or Baker to come away with the win. A metal drummer probably has a good chance though, based on how the nominations are going. |
dead.
do you guys have any opinions on sufjan stevens? i like him a lot. i think he's a great songwriter and lyricist and shows a lot of potential. |
Eh... he's not my favorite artist but decent enough!
I'm actually going for Peart as of now because I'm listening to "2112" |
I wish Bill Ward from Black Sabbath got more recognition from both Rock fans and Metal fans. Not only is he the first "metal drummer," but he doesn't have anything close to the typical metal drumming style...he drums a lot more like Mitch Mitchell than Lars Ulrich, with that free/improvisational style.
|
very true. ward is great. mike bordin idolizes him if that would influence any metal-heads. ha. peart should do well. i don't like him but i can see what h e's done for drumming.

I don't like what I've heard of Black Sabbath so I never really bothered to listen to any of their stuff closely. So I'm not nominating him. I absolutely hate Rush, so I can't vote for Peart... even though I recognize his technical skill. I did some nominations but I'm not done yet. Jim Gordon is a really underrated drummer who you should all nominate even though there's no way he'll get in. |
there are some STUPID people in my rock music class. these girls sitting behind me didnt know what a record label was, who the rolling stones are, and when a clip of ray charles playing "i've got a woman," they said "THAT'S A KANYE SONG!!!!11" and they were serious. no lie.
Tsk tsk. Then again, I love both artists, hehe. I don't really pay attention to drumming that much, but Moon and Baker are my two favorite drummers. Also, I think Sufjan Stevens is excellent. Sort of like a less depressing Elliott Smith. |
I wouldsn't be surprised if this Hellhammer character won. Lots of people have nom'd him.
I'll vote for Ward for sure. One listen to Rat Salad could convince many voters. I prefer that solo to Moby Dick. Also, Ian Paice's work on Deep Purple's Burn is marvelous. Hopefully it can sway some voters to him. |

I don't doubt his skill. I look forward to sampling some of his work. :thumb: |

Check out arcturus and Age Silence, if your not a fan of growling you'll enjoy age of silence much more. I can send you some tomorrow if you want (Im leaving for a bonfire in a little bit) Some guy just tryed to tell me creativity cant be proven. If that were true then we would have no need for the word creativity |
dead.
do you guys have any opinions on sufjan stevens? i like him a lot. i think he's a great songwriter and lyricist and shows a lot of potential.
I like some songs off of Illinois, but he's kind of boring and doesn't seem to have much going for him (IMO). And knowing Illinois (the state), I feel can say that I am not satisfied with his representation of it. No songs about Al Capone, Bugs Moran or Dean O'Bannion! WTF! |
Hey guys, I may not post for a week or two. It seems that my internet situation has deterioated into something much worse, and I can't update my newly installed Norton Anti-Virus. I don't want to be running around on the internet without an antivirus software.
Also, we are switching from Verizon DSL to Charter Cable, so it may take some time to get that done, so I can't post at all. I'll see you in 2 weeks. |
I've heard so many great things about Sufjan Stevens. I'd really like to hear some of his stuff, but I don't even really know what I kind of music he plays.
I nominated Bill Ward. I've been a big Sabbath kick lately. His playing on the song Black Sabbath is nice, it really adds to the whole dark atmosphere that songs creates. I just got the 3 disc Fillmore West Grateful Dead set. I can't wait to give it a listen, but right now I'm listening to Sabbath's s/t again. MBS: I'll miss my little OC fag. |
Sufjan plays acoustic chill music. More complex than Jack Johnson. You might like it, might not. This is boring.
|
So long for now Mister Blue Sky. I'll remember you every time I'm rocking out to ELO.

I wouldn't mind it.
|
I'm game. I love Jack so, yeah.

I'm glad Google finally allowed you to download vids. I'm downloading a bunch of them to my iPod.
So far: Pink Floyd Live 8 Ten Years After at Woodstock The Dirty Mac The Beatles on Celebrity Deathmatch  NP: Tubular Bells Pt. 2 |
Does anyone have My Bloody Valentine's album Loveless? I swear I remember seeing them on someone's last.fm. I had always just disregarded them as some whiny Alt/Indie band because of their name and this "punk" girl that worships Greenday who wears a MBV shirt, but they seem to be more than that.
|
I bought a MBV album t'other day (Isn't Anything) but I haven't listened to it yet.
