I'm just now going through this list, but holy crap I love that Evan Greer song.

AndreTheHyena 01-29-2006 02:37 AM
Anyone here listen to folk. I just started listening to Devendra Banhart and I'm hooked. Any more good folk acts?
Everyone here is going to just suggest folk-punk stuff, but if you want more stuff like Banhart, check out M. Ward, the Mountain Goats, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Biirdie, Neutral Milk Hotel, the Decemberists, etc...
Dylan writes the best love songs because they're not sappy and so punk.

I basically agree with everything Joe said about the folk recommendations, and I'd throw in Neil Young, and older country like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, which was closely tied with folk. Also, for modern country, try Elliott Smith and Sufjan Stevens.
I hate Sufjan Stevens. He is boring and overrated.

123, it's amazing. I love his apoplectic style of strumming.

Wha...?

sketchyjoe 01-29-2006 07:24 AM

I think this thread is one of the worst we've ever had.

Particularly considering the title was originally "Where The Tabs At?????????????
??????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????" and all the writing was in Size 7 until Jom edited it.
I hate Sufjan Stevens. He is boring and overrated.
I hear ya' man. Indie kids cream their pants over him though.

sketchyjoe 01-29-2006 07:31 AM

Indie kids cream their pants over anything that Pitchfork/NME promotes as the next big thing.

sketchyjoe 01-29-2006 10:16 AM

That's pretty cool. Who drew it?

Rise Me Up 01-29-2006 10:19 AM

It was on a more recent episode, and someone got a screenshot of it, but I'd never saw it up close.

coheneran 01-29-2006 10:39 AM

If any of you guys ever get a chance to see either of these bands, I recommend you do see them:

Power Corrupts and Ramraid The Offy.

I'll post Power Corrupt's single later.

sketchyjoe 01-29-2006 10:46 AM

I'm seeing Ramraid the Offy at the Punk Unity Fest.

coheneran 01-29-2006 11:09 AM
I'm seeing Ramraid the Offy at the Punk Unity Fest.
Well done. You will enjoy them.

I heard a new big squat opened up in Russell Square, do you know anything about it?

sketchyjoe 01-29-2006 11:15 AM

Nope.

Glitterati 01-29-2006 11:23 AM

My bad, edited.

I am in love with Evan Greer. =O

DaveToopes 01-29-2006 01:57 PM

Meee too.

Brain Toad 01-29-2006 02:01 PM
Indie kids cream their pants over anything that Pitchfork/NME promotes as the next big thing.
And they spew that cream over RYM making the ratings all suck.

sketchyjoe 01-29-2006 04:51 PM

I just got back from GCF. It rocked.

coheneran 01-29-2006 04:54 PM

Gcf?

Brain Toad 01-29-2006 04:57 PM
I just got back from GCF. It rocked.
That's the one where they sent a goddamn whale to the moon.

coheneran 01-29-2006 05:08 PM

Kyle doesn't look very Jewish in that one, and what one can see of Kenny looks vaguely Innuit.

Liebensaft 01-29-2006 05:17 PM

But that's okay because if it's where Falwell goes, then I don't even want any part of heaven.
I tried marijuana for the first time yesterday... blah :(.
It will be nicer once you start thinking of it as ganja. What was it, herb or hash?

EDIT: I liked it though.
