Alright, Galloglass' first album Legends From Now And Nevermore might be more to your liking, because on Heavenseeker they went into a more thrashy mood.

As for Running Wild, you cannot go past either Port Royal or Black hand Inn, especially if you like Gamma Ray.

Tyr 11-16-2006 08:56 PM

I'll check those out.

Stormrider 11-16-2006 09:29 PM

Legends From Now and Nevemore is such a good album. Galloglass are definitely up there in my favorite power metal bands.

Riva 11-16-2006 09:36 PM

And that's why you're cool, Jammie. Much cooler than the rest of these "power metal" fans. :p

Tyr 11-16-2006 09:38 PM

Okay, so I'm listening to Galloglass, and I have to say that it's pretty good.

Shattered_Future 11-16-2006 09:38 PM

LFNAN > Heavenseeker. It doesn't suffer from the massive overproduction issues that the latter has.

Stormrider 11-16-2006 09:41 PM

 <3

You guys put me int eh mood of some power metal. I need to get some more albums.

Fuel0262 11-16-2006 09:58 PM

okay, im just getting into power metal, and the only bands i know of are Stratovarius, Savatage (if they count), Dragonforce, and Dream Theater (again, if they count)
suggest some other good power metal bands

Tyr 11-16-2006 10:00 PM

Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian and Gamma Ray.

Riva 11-16-2006 10:01 PM

Dream Theater are definitely not, but Savatage in the '90s were definitely power metal. I'd suggest going onto Galloglass, Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Dungeon. I know you already like Running Wild, so you should be fine with Galloglass.

Shattered_Future 11-16-2006 10:02 PM

Sabaton
Blind Guardian (highly recommended)
Sonata Arctica
Nightwish (highly recommended)
Galloglass
Running Wild
Lost Horizon
Symphony X (a bit proggier than the rest, but still unbelievable)
Adagio (again, like Symphony X)
Dream Evil
Dungeon
Edguy
Therion
Iced Earth
Kamelot (highly recommended)
Rhapsody

That should be good for starters. :thumb:

Riva 11-16-2006 10:07 PM

Well, if we're doing the lists:

Bolded are my favourite ones, the rest range from average to good power metal.

No Edguy for Riva ?

Damn, I need to get an Angra album, Therion album, the Firewind album, and the Dungeon album. Yeah...

A lot of stuff, Riva :p

Riva 11-16-2006 10:31 PM

Oops, forgot Edguy.

pate 11-16-2006 10:36 PM

Edguy is awesome.

ArcLite 11-16-2006 11:37 PM

The Avantasia albums were sweet too.

NP: Artillery - The Challenge

Apocalyptic Raids 11-16-2006 11:45 PM

Artillery \m/

ArcLite 11-16-2006 11:46 PM

Yeah, they slay. I actually just recently got into them. I need more thrash.

pate 11-16-2006 11:47 PM

I don't Avantasia as much as Edguy stuff.

Tyr 11-17-2006 08:50 AM
The Avantasia albums were sweet too.
True, I forgot about those.
I don't Avantasia as much as Edguy stuff.
I'm the other way around. I like Edguy, but Avantasia is something special.

shadow_stalker 11-17-2006 10:39 AM
Bolded are my favourite ones, the rest range from average to good power metal.
Sonata Arctica
how dare you not put Sonata in bold?

on a side note, amazon have finally started stocking more Tarot than just 'suffer our pleasure' so im one happy camper...not that im a camper...

Stormrider 11-17-2006 03:07 PM

Edguy are good stuff. I've only heard one full album though:Theatre of Salvation. Along with a bunch of other songs. The album is good, tohugh a few songs kinda bore me...

Shattered_Future 11-17-2006 03:29 PM

Damn, I forgot to put Tarot in my list.

shadow_stalker 11-17-2006 03:52 PM

ToS took a couple listens for me to get into, but its a really...nice (for lack of a better word) album, its not much compared to mandrake or hellfire club though

np: flogging molly - seven deadly sins (not power metal in the slightest but such a cool song)

Stormrider 11-17-2006 05:09 PM

I gotta say...same here. I remember when I first listened to the album, I was disapointed. But now, I really enjoy it.

I havn't heard much from Madrake to be honest...

Shattered_Future 11-17-2006 06:14 PM

Mandrake is an unbelievable album. Get it. Now.

Stormrider 11-17-2006 06:47 PM

Okay :)

I'll look into it.

Riva 11-17-2006 07:44 PM

I'm sorry to break the trend, but I really don't absolutely love Edguy to pieces like the rest of you guys. I find them to be the same as Stratovarius, a good listen but not something I think "I have to listen to them now!"

Stormrider 11-17-2006 07:48 PM

I don't worship them. Though, I rather them to Stratovarius. Though, I must get myself Episode. Oh, I just remembered, why are Stratovarius albums so damn expensive ?

When I get in the mood for some Edguy, it's very good stuff.

Shattered_Future 11-17-2006 07:56 PM

I don't love them to pieces, but I love the fact that they don't take themselves too seriously. It's good, fun, and hella catchy music.

I can't stand Stratovarius though, aside from the few instrumental tracks. They're extremely boring to me.

Stormrider 11-17-2006 09:13 PM

Elements Part 1, which is generally a boring album, is a good listen about...once every 5 months.

:p

Txus 11-17-2006 09:24 PM

Stratovarius live are awesome.

/Feels like a n00b in here :p

Riva 11-17-2006 09:30 PM

I like Destiny the best out of Statovarius' catalogue. Rebel and the title track are killer songs.

pate 11-17-2006 11:02 PM

I worship certain Edguy songs...and my favorite album is Rocket Ride. /runs

Stormrider 11-18-2006 12:12 AM

Man, this Edguy talk put me in the mood :p

I should borrow my girlfriends copy of Destiny one day...

Txus 11-18-2006 12:24 AM

I should borrow your girlffriend some day...:p

/Is drunkzz

Stormrider 11-18-2006 12:26 AM

You're not drunk, you say **** like that all the time

Txus 11-18-2006 12:34 AM

....Ok :(

</3

shadow_stalker 11-18-2006 08:50 AM

i think im one of the only people around here that doesnt like Stratovarious, lots of people i talk to tell me they are one of the definitive power metal bands, but whenever i listen to them i just feel board.

any of you guys ever lsitend to axxis? i've been told by a couple of people they are really good but never really listend to them

Stormrider 11-18-2006 10:20 AM
....Ok :(

</3
It was a joke Mikey :( A Joke !

Oh, and Riva, you know whebn we were talking about which IE album we considered more Power Metal ? In the Viking thread ? Well, I forgot about mentioning it there...What about The Glorious Burden ? Tim's vocals add a big power metal feel to it at times IMO. Though, once again, I wouldn't go and call a all out power metal album, heh.

Just thought I'de add this here...
