Little Brother! Nice.

Robert Crumb 08-16-2005 05:04 PM

Can't wait for the new one. I think they can top their debut easily.

TalkingHead 08-16-2005 07:11 PM

I've been listening to nothing but Royksopp for the past 2 days. Melody A.M. is wonderful.

sooo good
truth.

Xiu Xiu - Fabulous Muscles
Goldfrapp - Felt Mountain

At first spin, the new Dredg blows.

ATM 08-16-2005 07:25 PM

I really don't see what all the fuss over Dredg is about.

Happymeal 08-16-2005 07:32 PM

I never was too fond of them either. The only song I liked from them was "Same Ol' Road", and the first time I heard it around 3 years ago I thought they were a Tool rip-off.

Nah, the beauty of dredg is that they play modern rock that's catchy and head banging but also has a unique beauty to it.

Also.. I've been digging..

Face the Truth - Stephen Malkmus
Spiderland - Slint (Washer is my favorite I decided)
This is Meant To Hurt You - These Arms Are Snakes

Electrocution 08-16-2005 09:19 PM

im digging dredg right now :p

as well as nouvelle vague

el doctor 08-17-2005 08:17 AM
I really don't see what all the fuss over Dredg is about.
Same here. They're good musicians that have the potential to be a great band, but the singer sounds lifeless and the ideas (while some are rather cool) are so unfocused.

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Stereolab - Mars Audiac Quintet
Billy Bragg & Wilco - Mermaid Venue (Vol. 1 and 2)

OrbDragon 08-17-2005 02:23 PM

Joni Mitchell - Hejira
King Crimson - The Red Album
Television - Marquee Moon
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
Cake - Comfort Eagle
Kelis - Tasty

Anthony Braxton - For Alto and Trio and Duet
I haven't heard thos Braxton albums, but I'm not a big fan of 3 Compositions Of New Jazz or Quartet (Dortmund) 1976. Both are good, but not even close to being some of my favorite free jazz albums. I've been interested in For Alto, though. Is that good stuff?

For Alto is good stuff I think though it can get lengthy on the second half of the album, tracks 5-8 each top ten minutens but they're well worth it in my mind. Braxton really has at it on the album and each track holds its own. It's a solid and consistant album in my opinion.

Such a great album. Knocked me right out my loafers.

Robert Crumb 08-17-2005 10:43 PM

It's great that MF DOOM is finally getting the love he deserves.

Right now I'm listening to the first half of a mixtape (on an actually tape, no less) that I'm making. 45 minutes a side, here's how the first side shapes up:

Sebadoh - On Fire
Saggitarius - Lonely Girl
Stereolab - Cybele's Reverie
Air - Mike Mills
Cardinal - Angel Darling
Big Star - Thirteen
Camera Obscura - Before You Cry
Nancy Sinatra - Baby's Coming Back Again
John Cale - Andalucia
*undetermined three minute instrumental*
Brian Eno - Some of Them Are Old
The Zombies - How We Were Before
The Left Banke - Sing Little Bird Sing

And the first song on side b is gonna be David Bowie - Fill Your Heart. Fun fun.

juicekitten 08-17-2005 11:31 PM

shonen knife - lets knife
the screaming trees - dust & sweet oblivion

Okay, I guess you're a friend now.

br3ad_man 08-18-2005 01:23 AM

Live long and prosper.

Tapeworm 08-18-2005 01:27 AM

oh yeah bread, i've been meaning to tell you. In case you didn't know, there is a venue in brisbane called 610 which is an all ages venue. You can also BYO alcohol if you're into that. We get some pretty freaking good bands playing there.

br3ad_man 08-18-2005 02:03 AM

Is it in the valley? What sort of bands play there?

Tapeworm 08-18-2005 02:13 AM

Yeah in the valley.

Umm, it;s mostly locals but lately there has been a lot of Melbourne and Sydney band coming up, and also smaller bands from overseas. A lot of post-punk type stuff (as most of the local scene is these days).

The Rogers Sisters played there recently. I can't remember, but yeah it is growing in notoriety, and it's basically a real dirty bunch of alleyways TMNT club style. Bunch of little kids drinking goon and throwing up.

br3ad_man 08-18-2005 02:17 AM

Sounds a bit nasty, wouldn't they get busted for having underage kids drinking?

Tapeworm 08-18-2005 02:18 AM

Well it's classed as an art gallery. So it's like a private space or something. So it's like drinking at home.

Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett.
Amazing.
It's like Europe, classical music and 'intelligent dance music' [ugh, hate that term] having sweet secks together.

Chunder_Munkey 08-18-2005 07:01 AM

has anyone looked at foxy shazam's myspace. if you havnt do it now. www.myspace.com/foxyshazam go to it now they are the good.

OrbDragon 08-18-2005 07:11 AM

Dredg is prententious and overartsy, IMO.

Just had to get it off my chest. I'm a bit hyper for upcoming Lowlands festival.
