No not really. I don't think Labrie sounds anything like Bono.
No, he doesn't at all.
I like U2 Quite a bit, but haven't heard a similarity between them and DT, even in that song.

ghettoeddo 12-24-2005 04:54 PM

is it sad that i haven't heard iron maiden's original "# of the beast" album?
im gonna check it out, cuz the DT covers are great.

lifting shadows off a dream is indeed underrated. the whole album of "awake" is i think. takes some getting used to, but it's sinking in for me literally one song at a time :]

Lord Abortion 12-24-2005 04:57 PM

Very sad...as with all Maiden's stuff, it's amazing.

I'm loving Awake at the moment.

Jev 12-24-2005 05:01 PM

Same here. That and SFAM have been basically the only things in my CD player.

ghettoeddo 12-25-2005 12:57 AM

happy holidays people, whatever religion or lack thereof you may be.

NP: octavarium

Jev 12-25-2005 10:02 AM

Nah she wasn't ordered yet.
I meant my SFAM DVD silly.

scenesfromatheater 12-25-2005 05:51 PM

Lifting Shadows of a Dream is U2 inspired, it says on the 5YIALT DVD. As for I Walk beside You, I probably think it is U2 influenced as some of the other songs on the album have blatent influences like Never Enough (Muse).

Huh? Don't you mean underrated?

JamJar 12-25-2005 06:13 PM

Sigh, I didn't really get any CDs or DVDs, I really need to spend my money/vouchers and buy Awake!

emo is so cool 12-26-2005 01:51 AM

anyone know what the word "octavarium" means? in the song titled that, LaBrie says "Trapped inside this Octavarium" so that made me wonder, did they just make that word up?

shamed-angel 12-26-2005 03:40 AM

My parents got me Images and Words bedclothes off of ebay. Now that is hardcore. How was everyone elses christmas?

I think they just made it up but I know it's got something to do with an octave. I think it's used to signify a repeating cycle, what that is I'm not sure.

badtaste 12-26-2005 07:19 AM

C'mon, Awake sucks due to Labrie's try hard metal growling. STick to the high notes!

Lord Abortion 12-26-2005 08:50 AM

I got my LATB and FYIAL DVDs and my Once in a livetime CD...that should keep me DT'd up for a while...

Jev 12-26-2005 10:04 AM

Lord Abortion 12-26-2005 05:17 PM

classicrockman 12-26-2005 05:37 PM

Nice...

Maybe next christmas you can get James LaBrie with a little santa hat instead of Bruce!

i disagree 100%.

i think his vocals on songs like "lie" are amazing. but that's just my opinion.

and to whoever asked what 8vm meant...

"Looking at the history of the word Octavarium reveals very little. The only historical record of it is a historical book in the Vatican called the Octavarium Romanum. It consists mainly of lessons regarding various Catholic feasts. Notable in its history, however, is many 5's and 8's. The book was first mentioned underthe pontification of Sixtus V (1585-1590) (Sixtus the FIFTH in FIFTEEN EIGHTY FIVE) and then was not mentioned again until it was brought up under Clement VIII (1592-1605) (that's Clement the EIGHTH)."

from dtfaq.com
the #5 is significant because there's 5 members in the band, and 8 total including past members. plus, the whole octave business.

actually, just check out http://dt.spatang.com/octavarium.php

Lord Abortion 12-26-2005 06:59 PM

And of course...it's the 8th studio album...

Jev 12-27-2005 02:21 PM

I like Labrie's singing on Awake. The only thing I don't like about Awake is the "six o clock on a Christmas morning" over and over and the backing singing in the Silent Man.

Lord Abortion 12-27-2005 02:24 PM

The backing bits in the silent man are one of my favourite parts on LSFNY!

Jev 12-27-2005 02:28 PM
The backing bits in the silent man are one of my favourite parts on LSFNY!
I am yet to see it, it hasn't fucking arrived yet
I just mean on the album.
The backing bits in the silent man are one of my favourite parts on LSFNY!
The "Without faith, without hope." bit of Fatal Tragedy is mine. :p

scenesfromatheater 12-27-2005 05:28 PM

Yeah, but they are awful on LSFNY. JP is way out of tune.

shamed-angel 12-27-2005 05:31 PM

Which makes it that so much better!

Lord Abortion 12-27-2005 05:34 PM

I think LaBrie is pretty spot on in LSFNY. On A change of seasons and The spirit carries on especially.

shamed-angel 12-27-2005 05:47 PM

He has a massive sack attack during Finally Free.
"Living my own life by learning through you."
One of the best singers ever for range and high vocals. If not the best.

ghettoeddo 12-27-2005 07:31 PM

god i need to get LSFNY...that's the one w/ a change of seasons and the full SFAM right? and...the CD, not the DVD?
