Where you live?
I live out in Washington in the U.S. Worst place to be a power metal kind of guy.

Stormrider 05-05-2006 01:14 PM
I would love to be in a power metal band aswell, damn metallica fan boys

Yeah, I'd like to be in a proper PM band.
NP Thyrfing - Sweoland Conqueror

just general metal, we play Maiden, iced earth, metallica...

*breaks down crying and has to wait a minute before he can start again*

starting to learn Cathedral and Black sabbath stuff (think i may have missed something but not sure)

if we could find a keys player we could easily swing towards power metal

Stormrider 05-05-2006 02:28 PM

Oh OK. I don't even have a proper band right now :p

NP Blind Guardian - I'm Alive

Steerpike 05-05-2006 03:49 PM

I'd love to put together a power metal band. But that's not really feasible right now. Maybe when I have more time in my life.

Shattered_Future 05-05-2006 05:38 PM

This weekend, maybe, I'll put the finishing touches on my power metal song. Which involves me recording a whole new guitar part.

Deth 05-05-2006 08:42 PM

I would even do a one man band if I could play guitar. I need to be able to gratuitiously sweep pick at insane speeds for a power metal band I want to be in.

Shattered_Future 05-05-2006 08:47 PM

Remember, it's not power metal if there's non 16th notes. :p

Deth 05-05-2006 08:55 PM

That's what I'm thinking. Of course I'll need a ballad, but I'll just throw a few chords together will some lyrics about dying in battle.

Shattered_Future 05-05-2006 08:57 PM

Absolutely. The more dragons and unicorns that are included, the better.

Actually, my power metal song has a more emotional than supercrazy solo, mostly because I can't go supercrazy. :upset:

Apocalyptic Raids 05-05-2006 08:58 PM

I would make a Speed Metal band instead

It would be total Agent Steel worship :D

Deth 05-05-2006 08:59 PM

I really love power metal for the fantasy cliches. They're so great.

Shattered_Future 05-05-2006 08:59 PM

They really are...

That may be why Rhapsody is so awesome.

Deth 05-05-2006 09:02 PM

The Magic of the Wizards Dream, Forest of Unicorns, Village of the Dwarves, Wisdom of the Kings, Steelgods of the Last Apocolypse.

That's damn fine cheese.

Stormrider 05-05-2006 09:09 PM

I only have/know 2 Rhapsody songs...they're pretty cool. I need an album from them eventually.

Power metal is my favorite genre.

Deth 05-05-2006 09:12 PM

I don't know how many times I've seen you say that now :p.

I really love power metal, but I find it's overpopulated with mediocre bands.

Shadows Within 05-05-2006 09:13 PM

like who

Stormrider 05-05-2006 09:14 PM

Say what ? How many Rhapsody songs I have or That PM is my favorite genre ?

I've only said PM is my favorite genre once :p And I don't know about the other one...

:p

EDIT: To Deth

Deth 05-05-2006 09:17 PM

Everytime Rhapsody is mentioned, which is a lot.

In regard to the mediocre bands, I may only like the exceptional ones. If I hear a band like Hammerfall or a Rhapsody ripoff, I can never enjoy it. Maybe I haven't explored the genre enough, but I would say about 50% of the power metal bands I have heard are mediocre or worse. The other half have some of the best music I've ever heard.

Stormrider 05-05-2006 09:19 PM

Yeah you're right...I must stop mentioning it as everyoen knows by now :p

NP Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence

:D
In regard to the mediocre bands, I may only like the exceptional ones. If I hear a band like Hammerfall or a Rhapsody ripoff, I can never enjoy it.
I'm much the same, although even some of the more highly regarded bands I'm not really a fan of.

Shattered_Future 05-05-2006 10:54 PM

There's a ton of great bands, but even more knockoff bands...

Riva 05-05-2006 11:01 PM

Yeah, but every genre has their knockoffs and imitations.

Synthetical 05-05-2006 11:57 PM

I'm not one to name a certain genre my favorite, and although there are alot of ripoff power metal bands, like you guys have said, the majority of the music I listen to is power metal, and I listen to alot of music.

Riva 05-05-2006 11:58 PM

I listen to a lot of power metal and folk metal these days. It's pretty much overtaken my classic metal. It'll never overtake Pink Floyd though.

Welcome to the forums, anyway. You've made the right choice in posting in this thread.

What're your favourite bands?

Synthetical 05-06-2006 12:02 AM

Nightwish and Sentenced are my all time favorites. Epica too, just because there so damn different, I'll be suprised if anyone has heard of Epica though.

Thanks for the welcome by the way, you guys are damn friendly here.

Riva 05-06-2006 12:09 AM

Epica are relatively well-known. I personally have heard Consign To Oblivion. I see you like female fronted bands. I'm not too fond of them, though I've heard enough. I like them somewhat, Nightwish and After Forever more than most, but the only band I really enjoy operatic female vocals in is Therion, which has plenty of different vocals also.

And it's kind of my job to be friendly. :)

Slapping Penguin 05-06-2006 12:12 AM

Yeah and then when you turn your back he'll put a knife in it! RUN RUN RUN!

><

Synthetical 05-06-2006 12:19 AM

I'm impressed. I have a couple Therion CD's and 3 Epica CD's. And yes, I do like female fronted metal bands, and my Megadeth and Iron maiden friends think I'm crazy because of it. Therion is pretty good, but its one of those bands I only like a few songs off the CDs from. You've only heard songs off Consign to Oblivion? I like there older ones better. A good one is Cry for the moon.

If you want a link to the cry for the moon video, I can post it if interested.

Riva 05-06-2006 12:24 AM

Alright. I'll check out their earlier stuff.
