Mother, isolation, remember, love, god and my mummy's dead are also good songs

I assume you're asking both of us at the same time. She died in a car accident. Whether it was alcohol related is unknown. At least, I don't know. :-/

I love Plastic Ono Band. People say they don't like it because John's lyrics are too personal to identify with, but I find that if you just do things like replace the word "Mother" with the name of someone who was close to you who died, or hell even just somone you miss the song has a whole new meaning. I like the message behind God too. I like how its not just an anti religion song, but about how we forget to belive in ourselves because we put it all in other things. I love Well Well Well as well, great rocker.

That sucks :-\

I could never listen to all of them...they seemed to be very arrogant and self-indulgent and vain, and the "primal scream therapy" should not have been used in a song.

Great post. I'm going to have to look at Mother that way sometime, should be interesting. I also like the message in God too, as you said, it's not as anti-religion as it seems, Lennon really seems to be saying that you control your own life and that you need to make the best of your life, and can't rely on a spiritual figure to make everything turn out for you.

Edit- I never have any tragedies like that in my school.

And I could easily see why people wouldn't like Plastic Ono Band, but personally I love the brutal truth, honesty, and pain that just pours out of every song.

pigonthewing82 01-09-2006 09:46 PM

Yeah I've been doing that a lot with Mother latley. I'll be graduating this year and while I don't like most people in my school there are friends I know I'll lose contact with who I wish I hung out with more, they had me, but I never really had them, not at least to the extent I hoped.

BigTrav415 01-09-2006 09:55 PM

The people at my school are too rich to have petty things like tragedies :-/

Honestly, some of the people at my school... my family could be considered upper-middle class I guess (hell, most of the dicks who like to make fun of anyone who goes to my school call me "Rocky Mount royalty" ) but really, I know kids that get absolutely anything they want (i.e. "Mommy, I want to go on a cruise and get a pair of $3,000 sunglasses" "Ok honey, next week") It makes me sick, honestly, I don't even want to be associated with those people, not just because of their spoiledness, but because they act like someone straight of a Dickens play when it comes to treating people "lower in class" than them. I'm saying all this because there used to be a guy that was in my grade that was not in a great situation. His dad was divorced and spent most of his money sending his three kids to my school so they could have a good education, but eventually my friend moved to Chapel Hill with his mom over summer. When we got back this year I remember asking someone if they even remembered him, and they were like "Oh wait, he was the poor guy, right?" I am proud to say I slugged him one he probably hasn't forgotten.

I guess I'm saying all this stuff because I was just thinking about it, and I feel like ranting about it on an Internet forum is a better way to vent than killing someone :-/ Sorry if I bored you all, I'm sure the bitch in the 10th grade with the shoes that cost more than my entire outfit will thank me for venting here.

robo2448 01-09-2006 10:01 PM

^I'm not going to quote your post because it's too long, but I feel exactly the same way. I live in a really rich town with a bunch of spoiled pricks. My family is well-off, but I'm certainly not spoiled. I mean, all these kids get they're own cars as soon as they get their licenses. I mean we're talking like brand new Mercedes or BMW's too, not exactly a shit car. I was talking to my friends about what they got for Christmas, it's like, well I got a '78 Les Paul classic, a PSP, ipod video and a $200 gift certificate iTunes. And then they complain how they're siblings got more than them. It's ridiculous. I wouldn't even want that much stuff, I'd feel guilty over wasting so much of my parents money. I can't wait to get out of this spoiled town and go to college.

/venting on internet forums=

pigonthewing82 01-09-2006 10:09 PM

I know exactly what you mean Bigtrav. Where I come from we are pretty diverse in our income, its sick the way the ones who live on Federal Hill (the rich part of my town) walk around with a sense that they are better than everyone. My whole state is like that, I come from CT where are the richest state but have the poorest towns. One quote I love comes from grafitie on an supermarket run out of business that you can see from the highway "Don't envy the rich man's money, for he envy's or unity" It would make a great album cover.
Other than "Working Class Hero" I think it runs the gamut from boring to annoyingly self-indulgent to unlistenable
Agreed. On all counts.

Sometimes I seriously wished I was going to Rocky Mount Senior High instead of Rocky Mount Academy, I seriously don't want to be associated with most of these people most of the time. It should be that those with the most give the most, but in most cases it's the opposite, not to mention the fact that they are given the world on a silver platter and decide to waste their life away gorging on grain alcohol and skimping through college on Daddy's board position at respected school and simultaneously butting the nposition away from some poor guy who actually worked hard to get there, then becoming a burnout and wasting your trust fund on cocaine and fake friends, instead of even attempting to do something with your life.

Very sorry. I have a cousin like this, she makes me so mad, basically she does what she wants and doesn't care about the consequences. She has totaled mroe cars than I can count, and quite honestly one time we were eating dinner at an extremely nice steakhouse, and I said I almost felt like I was wasting money, and she said that Braswells (my mom's well-off family) love to waste money. Oh. my. God.

Grrr, I can't seem to vent all this rage.

Glitterati 01-09-2006 10:34 PM

I feel roughly the same away. I hate most of the kids in my town.

ID? Friend?

Illmatic 01-09-2006 10:51 PM

I'm glad I don't run into these kinds of problems :-\

I spent my early childhood in the projects in Chicago, and then we moved into a middle-class part of Boston, then bought a house outside the city. Just about all the kids I went to school with were fairly middle-class, even the richer ones weren't all that rich.

i love Plastic Ono Band.....I honestly feel the emotion, the pain. Plus most the songs are pretty sweet.

If how I felt of George's passing, even knowing he was gonna die the 3 weeks before he did.....i can't imagine what it would be like for Ringo, or even Paul.

Leper 01-10-2006 12:18 AM

I've always lived in a middle class area and I really have no problems with it. It's nice living out of the city too because we never have to worry about crime or vandalism. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes it's hard to find a DD on bar nights, as all my friends live in the city.

Phallus Dei 01-10-2006 12:26 AM

Hey, CR thread.
I like CR, its alright. I suppose.

Plastic Ono Band is pretty sweet, Working Class Hero is key song. I love the version on Acoustic so much more emotional, in my opinion. Acoustic just plan rocks now that I think about it.

Leper 01-10-2006 12:59 AM

Yeah there are many accoustic versions of songs that I like better than the originals.

Welcome to the forums.

Heh, I'm seeing B.B. King in February. Can't wait, considering he's 80.

Welcome

Hopefully I can get a jam going today. 5 other people on my floor play guitar also, and at least one of them does the CR thang.

I'm getting more and more into the end of Abbey Road. I love how the songs transition so abrubtly, but at the same time, the album retains it's flow and musical direction. For the most part, the songs are just the right length, I just wish Golden Slumbers was a little longer.

clown_phobia 01-10-2006 05:06 PM

I have never been as obsessed with an album as I am with rubber soul right now. I've been listening to it about 4 times a day!

Oh just to tell you Sgt. Pep's > Abbey Road, Although the last like 10 tracks on Abbey Road (Minus draggy McGee.) are all perfect.
