I am a fan of AC/DC, but im afraid i have to disagree, Led Zeppelin were more Influential than AC/DC, and with AC/DC you know what your getting, That crunchy, heavy sound which is good for AC/DC, but with a band like Zeppelin, it was varied stuff, e.g Acoustic, Piano, Mandolins, but yeah, AC/DC are cool don't get me wrong
Good job putting off that attempted joke. Welcome to the CR thread fellow Led fan. A lot of the guys in here don't like them for some reason (I guess because they are overrated in their eyes compared to some other completely deserving CR bands), but I try ro get the led out on a regular basis. There used to be a LZ thread, but it keeps falling to the back of the forum.

Both of them are influential in negative ways.

Not trying to sound like a Zep fanboy n00b, but I think they're really excessively bashed here. They might be overrated by most people, especially those new to CR, but they're not that bad.

Edit: God I always seem to post something that was discussed ten posts ago.
Jeff Lynne is one of the greatest musicians this century.
I don't think he comes close to being among the top.

I got a cool GD bootleg today, 2/14/68 Carasoul Ballroom, good stuff right there. It was used for some of the Athem of the Sun takes.

Seafroggys 01-09-2006 07:57 PM
and this century is on its 5th year
You know, you bring up a good thought Seafroggys. I mean, we haven't even scraped the surface pf this millenium: who knows what sort of music and musicians we'll see in the future? I have a distinct feeling that back in 1905 with their light piano and flute pieces, they couldn't even comprehend stuff like 50's rock n' roll, the Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who, any of the bands or music that are now getting on to half a century old. We have no idea what could be coming. Something to think about...

Is it the slow-*** version with the muted notes on The Closing of Winterland? I love that version so much, so great to just vibe to.

robo2448 01-09-2006 08:13 PM

Ha this thread is so hilarious. I love the nicknames MBS gives people when he quotes them, I should start doing things like that.

I'm a fan boy for a lot of musicians, too lazy to list them all. I'm probably a biggest fanboy for Dylan though.

Bigtrav, that's pretty interesting to think about. It's cool to think about what music will be like in like 50 years. Or even 20. You never know how it can evolve.

Edit- Favorite Beatles basslines- Something, I Want You (She's So Heavy), Come Together... lots of good McCartney basslines. He's one of the most melodic bassists.

Edit 2- And I'd probably agree that we bash Zeppelin too much, and I don't even like Zeppelin. I respect them for their instrumental talent (especially Bonham). And JPJ for his multiple skills. Page is a very skilled guitarist but tremendously overrated and is a thief. I don't respect Robert Plant. At all.

clown_phobia 01-09-2006 08:14 PM

And in 50 years we'll look back to the music we were listening to now, and remember it as the music of our youth, even though it was released so long before :P

BigTrav415 01-09-2006 08:16 PM

Yeah robo, it will be really interesting, at least hopefully we'll still have a recording industry, which we won't if the file-sharing rate keeps growing like it is, because it will end up the artists won't get paid anything :(

I'm a Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin fanboy at heart.

/waits for Schyma to come in and call me a n00b before getting back to rehab

Yeah thats me too over the summer I became a HUGE fanboy. Whenever I start talking about Dylan I can see the look in my friends eyes saying "oh god here comes another rant about Dylan, were gonna be here for awhile"
Is it the slow-*** version with the muted notes on The Closing of Winterland? I love that version so much, so great to just vibe to.
Nope, it's off a bootleg from '81 I downloaded. My dad was at the show so that's why I wanted to hear it.
What are some of your favourite Beatles basslines?
Come Together, I Want You (She's So Heavy), and Taxman.
