Heart of a Killer was really good.

pate 11-12-2006 10:35 PM

Heart of a Killer is my favorite song, and one of my favorite songs period.
Well, I'll believe you this time. But, It might still be the fact that you don't want to admit that you ****ed up !

:p <3
Hehe.

I Spent today listening to Dragonforce, go me.

pate 11-14-2006 11:20 AM

I'm really sorry Ollie. :p

The Tarot that Oz uploaded is really good. :thumb:

Shattered_Future 11-14-2006 03:16 PM

Well, yeah. Marco Hietala is in the band, so you know it's good.

Stormrider 11-14-2006 03:28 PM

I listen to Dragonforce very rarely. I get in the mood, then listen to 3-4 songs, then get out of the mood again :p

Oh well.

/puts on Winters Bane

pate 11-14-2006 03:35 PM

@Mike:...but he was in Sinergy.

Jammie: That's because they only have three or four songs. :p

Stormrider 11-14-2006 03:40 PM

Hahahahah ! :p

NP Winters Bane - Heart of a Killer

This is good stuff. Tim Owens goes well in stuff like this...better then in Iced Earth. But, let's see what the man can do with the new albums before I say anymore.

Shattered_Future 11-14-2006 05:29 PM
@Mike:...but he was in Sinergy.

Jammie: That's because they only have three or four songs. :p
Well, it's not his fault that Kim Goss made the band horrible. Without her, they're quite good.

pate 11-14-2006 07:34 PM

It's his fault that he let Kim Goss ruin a project of his.

Shattered_Future 11-14-2006 08:25 PM

No, that would be Alexi. Marco was just along for the ride, and kicking *** while doing so.

pate 11-14-2006 09:50 PM

Excuses, excuses. :p

Shattered_Future 11-14-2006 10:21 PM

Marco's just the giant Finnish cyberpunk pirate bassist/vocalist. He just walks into a room and already he's owned everybody.

pate 11-14-2006 10:24 PM

Oh, so kinda like me then.

Riva 11-14-2006 10:32 PM

I enjoy Sinergy more than CoB. Which isn't saying much. :p

pate 11-14-2006 10:36 PM

I enjoy CoB more than Sinergy, but I dislike both.

MetalOz 11-14-2006 11:29 PM

Marco isn't playing with Sinergy anymore (Stratovarius' bass player now). Musically I like Sinergy, Kimberly Goss just has a weak voice. But I like clean vocals so I'll take her weak voice over Alexi's croaking. I like his guitarwork but his vocals don't do it for me.

Is Marco still in Nightwish?

ArcLite 11-15-2006 12:32 AM

I still love CoB, though I'm no longer the fanboy I was at one time. I'm gonna try and see them next month. Hopefully they'll play lots of old stuff and not a lot of that horseshit from the new album (wishful thinking). I guess I'm with the majority here in agreeing that the vox ruined Sinergy's potential.

Apocalyptic Raids 11-15-2006 01:57 AM

I've majorly gone off CoB. I was lucky enough to see them live at the height of my listening to them, so that was enjoyable.

Stormrider 11-15-2006 03:32 PM

I was never that big on COB. Yes, I like the couple of songs that I've heard, though I never really digged further.

ArcLite 11-15-2006 05:16 PM

Despite not whoring them anymore I still consider Follow The Reaper to be one of the best metal albums ever.

Riva 11-15-2006 06:30 PM

I just can't get into them. Something about them, some intangible quality, just set my teeth on edge.

Tyr 11-15-2006 06:33 PM

I only really like Follow the Reaper.

Shattered_Future 11-15-2006 06:48 PM

Of course. I'm not sure if they've found a new singer yet or not though, which is probably why the new Tarot album was just released.

Bodom's alright in small doses. They're a bit too samey, but a few songs every so often is quite cool.

Follow The Reaper is probably my favorite. Some killer tunes on there.

MetalOz 11-16-2006 01:39 PM

I have a question, perhaps I should do a poll...

Keyboards or no keyboards in power metal?

I tend to prefer power metal bands where the keyboards are buried in the mix and used more for atmosphere or effects then for key song elements with a couple exceptions (Symphony X is the only one I can think of off the top of my head)

Deth 11-16-2006 01:52 PM

Seeing how Rhapsody and Blind Guardian have keyboards, I will have to say with.

Of course there are so many great bands without them.

Stormrider 11-16-2006 03:29 PM

Though keyboards can be seen as a keysong elements at times. They can add a lot of atmosphere. But, I see what you meant.

I'm going to say with keyboards. Though generally speaking, I rather when keyboards are used for atmosphere/smaller melodies then for blistering solos.

EDIT: I should have kept my train of thought along power metal, haha.

Txus 11-16-2006 03:35 PM

Keyboards are overrated.

Stormrider 11-16-2006 03:44 PM

I love keyboards :)

When they're used right, I guess.

pate 11-16-2006 04:30 PM

Subtle keyboards FTW. Just like I prefer subtle awesome bass playing over flashy playing.

Tyr 11-16-2006 06:54 PM

I'd have to say with, since Rhapsody have them. But on the other hand, I like bands without too.

Riva 11-16-2006 08:06 PM

I'm torn, because some bands like Lost Horizon could do just as well without keyboards, but others like Rhapsody would be less enjoyable, to my mind, at least.

Shattered_Future 11-16-2006 08:22 PM

It depends on how keyboards are used. If they are used right, and enhance the atmosphere tenfold, then keep them. If they are just there for no good reason, chuck them.

As for leads, unless they're extraordinarily good, get rid of them. Adagio comes to mind as a "power metal" band with an unbelievable keyboardist.

MetalOz 11-16-2006 08:31 PM

I guess I'm just old school and the two words "power metal" mean guitar to me. When a song is keyboard dominated then it loses the "power" and the songs have to be guitar-riff driven to be "metal" in my book. I agree that some bands use keyboards to create atmosphere and they definitely can be used to give a song a lot more depth. There just seem to be a lot of bands that have a keyboardist when they could have a 2nd guitarist playing very similar parts instead and the songs would sound a lot more powerful...and a lot more METAL :)

Shattered_Future 11-16-2006 08:35 PM

I agree there, although there are plenty of bands who have 2 guitarists and don't know how to use them.

Riva 11-16-2006 08:36 PM

I'd rather have a good keyboardist than a second guitarist who just mimics the first. Not many bands that can pull that off succesfully. Be succesfully I mean like Judas Priest successful.

Stormrider 11-16-2006 08:43 PM

So, I must check out Lost Horizon, Running Wild and Wuthering Heights. Just though I'de mention that.

I'm not the biggest fan of...well 'traditional' metal. I like my power metal to be like...I'm thinking of Galloglass right now. I like it less when they go too much into traditional metal. Winters Bane are an exception though.

I'm not too sure if that was really voicing my thoughts. I'll be back later to fix that up :)

Tyr 11-16-2006 08:46 PM

I've actually never heard any Galloglass or Running Wild.

/hides from Riva

Riva 11-16-2006 08:48 PM

/tracks down and kills

Hrm... what's your favourite Power Metal band, Tyr?

Tyr 11-16-2006 08:50 PM

Oh, I'd probably say Rhapsody or Gamma Ray.
