Even if we sold all our 1000 unit for exactly $10 we'd barely break even on recording and production.
but 1000 people would have your album and that is more important |
Exactly :)
|
That is true, but whenever money is involved in things you do need to know when to you have your business hat on, and when to have your artist hat on.
|
Expecting to turn a profit selling albums isn't very realistic in the short run for a new band. Like gaslight was implying, its probably going to take more than 1000 units sold in order to make any sort of money, but its not that bad, because after 1000 you're just paying for the manufacture versus the recording/production costs.
|
A good approach is to count your physical sales vs physical production and count your mp3 sales vs the recording cost seeing as mp3 sales have a minimal cash outlay to establish.

Yikes baby.
Where did you get a Green Man suit?
Did you beat up Charlie?
No, even easier! I just started tripping on acid and throwing balls in people's faces and BAM - I became Green Man. (http://www.begreenman.com) Took me a while, but I eventually came across that site. |
Yeah, there are places to order a Green Man suit.
I wore a homemade Charlie costume for my friend's birthday party a couple months ago or something. It wasn't very complicated. T-shirt, beard, messy hair, white pajama pants with lots of food stains, and a sock with a can inside to simulate a spray can. I know a picture exists, I'll try to find it. |

It'll be fun, like a challenge. I'll try to be done before 10am. |

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200372348657&indexURL=1#ebayphotohosting I I I I I know I shouldn't be doing this... |
If it's in perfect working order and works with your head/combo, and you can get it under $600 I say might be a good idea.
|
I was going to say I was willing to bid up to $500 at the moment, 600 in a pinch. It basically is the cabinet 410 of what is in my combo at the moment, even the same era. It's near me too, insane luck... but 1300 then 600 then another 600 in one week... eep.
My unit is "250w RMS" and 500max but I'm not sure what impedance that is! It's only got 2 8ohm outputs, one of which powers the cab, so I'm imagining it'd be 250w @ 8 ohms. To my knowledge if I was running 2 8 ohm loads it'd be a 4ohm impedance correct? Meaning more than 250w, meaning 300w max cab would die. However... I'm probably wrong. |
From manual:
Speaker Outputs The two speaker output jack sockets are intended for connection to either a single 8 Ohm cabinet plugged into one socket, two 8 Ohm cabinets with one plugged into each socket or a single 4 Ohm cabinet plugged into one socket only. With combo amplifiers using the SMX300 output stage only one extension cabinet of 8 Ohms may be connected to the spare socket. If I was to take that the maximum possible output to an 8ohm cabinet was 250wRMS I'd have to say that a 300w rated cab would be more or less the ideal choice. I'm going to hazard a guess that I would be fine if I were to purchase this cab. |
If you're putting out 250w at 8 Ohms, I'd be a bit worried about having a cab rated for 300w at 8 Ohms because it means you can never fully power that cabinet.
I don't think it would be a disaster but I'm pretty sure it isn't the best situation. Though, my 500W Aguilar head is run into an Epifani 212 rated for 700w RMS and everything is fine, their site says the cab is sweet for anything 400w to 2000w so there's a bit of wiggle room. See what edgebass thinks. |
I agree, I will make a thread right now and hope he sees it in the next 14 hours.
