Lunch- Do you have any recording capabilities?
Unfortunately, I do not. Unless you were talking to the other Lunch. |
WheepingGuitar39, that's really cool in theory, but the sad truth is that the record companies get the vast majority of that money.
Yea. And I think it was only Gilmour who said he was going to do this too? This might of been mentioned I'm not sure, but Q/Mojo are putting out another special that includes Pink Floyd, called "Pink Floyd & The Story of Prog Rock." It's looks pretty interesting. The last special was a good read, and I plan to pick this one up too. Comes out on the 14th. http://www.neptunepinkfloyd.co.uk/news/?y=05&id=0707 |
Yes I know the record companies get the most of it, but hopefully enough will go to charity
I remember Gilmour saying how McCartney should donate more of his millions to charity, after Gilmour had just donated his house. David Gilmour is a true hero. Pink Floyd IS really rich, but imagine if they didnt give away any of their money to charity, or make concerts that cost 20 million, like Roger did 1990. I dont understand... what pride can you have in calling yourself the "richest band". Really disrespect the Stones for that. Pink Floyd truly are legends. Not only for their music but for the men they are. |
i really wish syd barrett hadnt gone insane. i really like early floyd.

Did any threads make good covers? And if so, where can I get hold of them? |

I'm a little disappointed because I really wanted to participate in a Floyd cover (which I'd still do just for the hell of it, if you guys are down). Where were you Deus? Vacation? |
I would help with a cover... But I'm really, really, bad at guitar.
|
I can actually play Brain Damage pretty well on guitar, but not any other Floyd songs (well, WYWH rythym)

I was listeing to The Division Bell today, and came across these lyrics. Do you think they were meant for Water?
Did you know...it was all going to go so wrong for you And did you see it was all going to be so right for me Why did we tell you then You were always the golden boy then And that you'd never lose that light in your eyes Hey you...did you realize what you'd become And did you see that it wasn't only me you were running from
|
Echoes is bad because you need to listen to a Pink Floyd album all the way to get the "true" experience.

I really dislike the album but it could well be for Waters.
you need to listen to a Pink Floyd album all the way to get the "true" experience.
That is so friggin' true |
Division Bell is an awesome album
And if you have noticed, Pink Floyd albums are mostly always about themselves. Alot of the first albums were about drug experiences (Thanks to Syd) Dark side of the Moon was dedicated to Syd's madness and what drives someone insane. Wish you were here... Syd Barett written all over it Animals is Waters perception of social classification, a bit "a la" Animal Farm (this album is **** awesome) The Wall, was the sorrow Waters felt after spitting at the montreal fan's face, and how he had completely disconnected from his audience, like if there was a "wall" in between them. therefore The Wall The Final Cut was about Water's father and about the war A Momentary Lapse of Reason was alot about the loss of Waters. Division bell was the division between Waters and Gilmour if you pay attention to lyrics in songs, and read alot of floyd interviews and stories, you can make SO many connections to their lyrics. About Echoes.. When I was about 6, my dad had the Pulse album cause he was a huge floyd fan and had just went to the Pulse concert in MTL. And i loved the 3 last seconds of the album on Run Like Hell when there was a loud BOOM, because my dad had huge subs in his mustang. Anyway, then I was caught by the catchy Money bass line. For a while my two favorite songs were Money and Run like Hell. I unfortunatly went through a techno phase then to rap, and then finally back to rock when i found the Wall album. I listened to it on repeat all day, even while i slept it was playing my ears. At that time I wasn't really into Guitar Solos yet, so Comfortably Numb didnt have that much of an effect. I didn't really know what songs were what. One day one of my friends lent me the Echoes album where I found the track Sorrow. This became my new favorite, and still is one of my favorite songs. One day i was in the car, and a radio station was playing Comfortably numb but we didnt have the volume high. We stopped at a red light near a gas station who had a radio i guess in their garage, blasting the comfortably numb solo. That's when I said, holy ****, what the HELL is that!!! That's awesome. There was like this power that i felt while hearing that. And I knew it was floyd because it sounded like what "dad" listened to. Anyway from that point on I was highly aware of awesome guitar solos and completely addicted to david gilmour's guitar solos. I next found out Pigs (3 different ones), High Hopes, and the rest. From that poitn on I decided to discover other songs on those albums which we all owned. I became a Pink Floyd addict. Now I have EVERYTHING, I have so many bootlegs because I just can't get enough. I see EVERY Pink Floyd Tribute I can. I play guitar and I spend days trying to play like David. I know everything about Pink Floyd. :thumb: So Echoes helped me out a bit, but at the stage where I am, I look back and I dont really like that album, even though I find they made it flow together pretty nicely, it's just not the same effect as listening to Floyd's concept album, it was like if 1 album = 1 song. yea i wrote alot, im sorry, i just felt like writing my feelings down. you dont have to read all that. I was thinking of starting a Petition, to show Pink Floyd how many fans they really have, and maybe that might make them change their thoughts and make some albums/tours or what not. Also, I heard that Roger Waters is making a brand new rock album in 2006, and David Gilmour is going on some kind of tour in 2006 and might make a solo album. Why not do this TOGETHER, release Roger's album under Pink Floyd with some of David's input, then make another album for alot of unproduced ideas that Pink Floyd has had in the past. That 1997 album that never happened? Where is it? Pink Floyd still has what it takes, and definatly has a HUUUGE fan base, which dramatically grew in the past 2 weeks. |

**** Good Idea I'd sure as hell sign it, ALso where the hell is the Zeppelin thread |
The Wall, was the sorrow Waters felt after spitting at the montreal fan's face, and how he had completely disconnected from his audience, like if there was a "wall" in between them. therefore The Wall
Sorry, but that's not it. The Wall is about Roger, you got that right, but it's not about just the one spitting in the fan's face. Roger has had a pretty rough life, and every major trauma in his life has left a "brick" in an emotional wall. His father dying in the war, then having the King sign his death certificate with a rubber stamp, his mother being over protective, his wife being a tramp, etc etc. All those events led into bricks being built in this emotional wall, when, in it's completion, numbed the person of all feeling which eventually led to insanity. The character "Pink" in the Wall is a representation of Syd Barret and Roger, for the character represents Syd's present condition (insanity) and Roger's past. He is "normal" for the first half of the wall, which leads to the wall being completed in the song "Goodbye Cruel World" in which Pink inserts the final brick himself. He then realizes that it was a mistake to build this wall, but he's too late to do anything about it because it's too high and he can't get over it. He holds himself on trial for the crimes he's commited, which leads to him tearing down the wall himself. Which leads to one of the questions that I've always had on my mind... Was there a hole in the wall? Was there somewhere where a glimpse of human emotion could get through and help Pink overcome the wall? /wall-in-a-nutshell |
Actually you kinda resumed my thoughts, it's just that I didn't go into that much detail
But basically the spitting on the fan's face is what initiated Roger to sit down and reflect on what he did, his past, his childhood. It's his thought of having a wall between him and his audience that he started thinking of "The Wall" he said it himself in an interview But yes it's for sure that Pink Floyd (Bob Geldof in the movie) is a reflection of Roger and Syd. Roger's part of the kid who's father dies, growing up without a father and the very tough schooling. Syd for the skitzophrenia, drugs and complete lost in space-ness. And your right about the bricks in the wall. If you saw the movie, the bricks were made of material objects, you could see the front of a mercedes, BMW, a stereo and so on. And to answer your quesiton I believe there are some holes in the wall where glimpse of light passes through. I'm not sure about the human emotion helping out Pink. I think he was alone with his thoughts on this one. Sorry about the misunderstanding, I know what The Wall is and the complete content and what everything means, I've watched the movie at least a hundred times and listened to the album in my sleep, it's all in there subcounsciencly, I just didnt feel like writing the whole definiton of The Wall. But what sparked The Wall was Roger spitting in the fan's face. Everything you said still proves my point that The Wall is about themselves. |
A good idea but I doubt it will work to be honest but you could try it anyway :thumb:
I doubt it would work anyway, Pink Floyd do what they want when they want. But since Pink Floyd do love their fans, and are considerate people. I would just want to show them a HUGE number of signatures, real people's names that would LOVE to see some new Floyd. Just show them a reason more to come back, incase they are debating with each other right now  |
I was listeing to The Division Bell today, and came across these lyrics. Do you think they were meant for Water?
I actually thought it was about Waters as well when I first heard that album. Seems to me there's a lot of referencing to their career throughout the album, as if they knew it was the last one. I for one love The Division Bell. I don't understand why so many people dislike it. Way better than The Final Cut, if you ask me. Edit: About this whole "What is the Wall about?" thing. One thing that wasn't clarified (I don't think, at least) is that the Montreal spitting is not something Waters felt bad about. He just hated the fans, he viewed them as mindless sheep in the palm of his hand, so to speak. He couldn't stand doing another show with the fans acting they way they do, unless there was a Wall in between them and him. Edit again: Gilmour on tour in 2006? Hot ****! Also, I know Waters is possibly working on a new rock album, but does anyone know anything about the opera he's writing? |
I heard on Late Night with Alice Cooper that Waters is working on a concept album about the French revolution, which could be pretty interesting.

Isn't Waters trying to bring "The Wall" to Broadway?
|
Isn't Waters trying to bring "The Wall" to Broadway?
Yep. I'm not sure if it was his idea though. I hope Gilmour tours in 2006. I wish they'd tour together, but just Gilmour would still be amazing. |
I'd love the see The Wall on Broadway.
|
It would be easy for me, I could see it as much as I want.
/lives right near NYC |
I remember reading that he said he hated the movie because it was too dark and gloomy and stuff.
|
No no no, Roger Waters DEFINATLY felt bad about spitting in the fan's face, go watch the interviews. He said it himself.
He did not hate the fans, he says it was the fact that he just had so much pride and this overwhelming sense of power. Also the SUPER annoying fans in montreal (I'm a montrealer and I know alot of montrealers can be idiots). They weren't all annoying, maybe a couple out of the 110 000 there in attendance in the olympic stadium, floyd made the mistake of general admission. But some were screaming endlessly and at one point someone threw fireworks behind Roger. And someone even uploaded Pigs on the Wing Part 2 on this thread , where you hear the fireworks and Roger telling the disruptive fans to leave the stadium so that the other fans can enjoy the music. The other normal fans started cheering but the annoying fans just continued their crap until Roger just had enough and spat his frustration into this guy's face during Pigs (3 Diff. Ones). They had an intermission right after it and Roger felt like crap, David Gilmour was FURIOUS and didnt even come out to play the last song, whatever it was. They stopped the Animals tour then and there. You guys really need to see the interviews and read the stories and everything, really interesting stuff. I also thought that Roger was a real ******* for spitting in the guy's face, but after knowing all the facts, i believe that moronic fan really deserved it. |
And someone even uploaded Pigs on the Wing Part 2 on this thread
David Gilmour was FURIOUS and didnt even come out to play the last song, whatever it was.
The last song was Us & them. I didnt notice that gilmour doesnt play it on the bootleg I got, but I do know there was a lot of booing during the song. |
Everyone says "Echoes" is a bad album, but I think it's nice to have in the car for those short trips. It's so hard to get into an album like The Wall, just to have to stop before it's over!

You dont have to get into the wholealbum, just skip to the tracks you want to listen to  |

Wow, that would be cool! Tommy was awesome on Broadway. |
