bottlerocket 02-15-2005 09:19 PM

I don't like Bush, but I think we need to at least respect him. If he run around saying "BUSH SUCKS" and all that jazz, what does that show other countries about our political system? If we have no respect for the leader then other countries consider us weak.

I'm not for Bush at all, but I think people are taking the hating too far. Bumper stickers saying "BUSH SUCKS?" I mean, come on...honestly. I can see a Kerry/Edwards sticker or something, but that's just disrespect and gives America the bad name it has today.

I think anti Bush people need to chill the heck out, personally. They hate Bush as an excuse to hate something (*looks at Hot Topic kids*).

irishslappop 02-15-2005 09:26 PM

what does it show other counties about our political system? that is sucks. as indeed, it does. i only say that on the basis that he somehow, on the sun's green earth, that he got reelected.
no disresept gav but i dont think any country considers us weak. we have triple the navy of any other country and all them military to back it up.
i mean, ok im taking this to a personal level here. one of my friends that was 22 that i had know for 10 years, who was my mom's best friend's son, was killed in Iraq. yes he became a soilder on free will, but get this, he was killed on his THRID, count em, THIRD tour of duty. WTF!!?!?! its just ****ing bull**** what he's doing in Iraq and with selective religious spending and favortism. bah im done

Spaceman Spiff 02-15-2005 09:26 PM

I've hated Bush since always.
The thing is, he IS a bad president. He has wasted tons of money with pointless wars. He doesn't care for human rights*, he cannot speak and cannot answer questions without the help of everyone he has surrounded himself with. He bases a lot of what he does on religion, which should not have any place in politics, I think. Religion should not determine how a country is run.
I have more I could say, but this is good for starters.

*banning gay marriage

Spaceman Spiff 02-15-2005 09:29 PM

Oh, I almost forgot, Bush shouldn't have been president in the first place way back in 2000. There was a little cheating going on there; he lost.

bottlerocket 02-15-2005 09:30 PM

^ I'm very torn on the issue.

Religiously, I hate it. Killing someone is NOT what Jesus would do. Jesus was completely against "An eye for an eye." He was about forgiveness. We need to forgive the people and get them help. Everyone was made in God's image and is therefore good. Jesus died on the cross to save everyone from sin. Now it's our turn to help Jesus by helping eachother overcome sin. If we help criminals rather than kill them, we can have a safer, more productive, and overall better society. While some are beyond treatment, we just cannot give up and must keep working. Justice is Christ, and every human has dignity. What is that dignity? God killed His one and only Son, Jesus, for us. Think about that. God, the most loving being ever, SACRIFICED His Son, just for YOU. I think we owe it to God to follow His Law. He wants the best for us, since we are His children. He loves us like the Father He is, and we need to do our best to serve Him.

Politically it makes sense. Prisons are run by tax money. Why should people pay their money to support a criminal's lifestyle? Our taxes feed them, clothe them, keep them warm, etc. Also, why keep the bastard alive? If he killed someone, I'm sure the family wants him dead. We're in a different society now. Cities are overcrowded, crime is rising, and our prisons are full. An eye for an eye.

Overall, I go religiously here. I'm an extremely forgiving person and believe everyone can change for the better if they just try and have the proper help.

Like I said, I'm a pretty devout Catholic. :)

funny how it happened in his brother's state huh?

bottlerocket 02-15-2005 09:33 PM

I agree wth you both 100%. Bush is a poor president, bringing an unneeded war into the war. However, I'm not saying "Don't be against Bush." I just think some of the actions are excessive. I mean, why make a dancing Bush doll that says idiotic statements? THAT I do not approve of. It's a waste of money, goods, and an awful impression of the country.

I'm NOT PRO BUSH at all. I dislike the man as a president, but I'm dissapointed people don't know their limits regarding the protests against Bush.

Politically, your argument is flawed in the sense that there is no way to find out for sure if a person is guilty. What we have is a jury, no where near 100% accurate. Even though all odds may be against the defendant, and people are ALMOST sure they did it, there is no way to turn that opinion into a fact. Basically, this would be a hypothesis. What you are doing is killing a person based on an educated guess. How can the government condone killing someone on an educated guess?

Spaceman Spiff 02-15-2005 09:37 PM
What a lame debate...everyone agreed.

Capital Punishment...yay or nay?
Nay.
I think that sitting in prison for 50 years is a much better punishment than just taking your life.
But, the bad thing is how much money it costs to keep people in prison.
And another thing, sometimes the person is found guilty even though they were really innocent, if this person is executed and then it turns out they were innocent all along... then what? An innocent life was just ended.
And not all murders are planned out and not all murderers are psychotic. Sometimes a murder is committed out of necessity.

bottlerocket 02-15-2005 09:39 PM

^ Like I said, this is why I go religiously here.

The Constitution provides Habeas Corpus, the right to a fair trial. Yes, it's not 100% accurate, but it's based on evidence. Evidence doesn't lie, and with our scientific and crimianl advancements (crime labs, etc.), the evidence is much more accurate, compelling, "truthful." Even if the death penalty isn't instituted, the odds are still the same: there is an equal chance of a wrongful conviction.

I don't support the death penalty in real life. If asked to vote I'd be against it. I'm just trying to take the opposing position here. :p

I agree with you BV, but let's keep debating.
