PAJJ 01-07-2007 07:04 PM

also anyone see that movie happy feet, in a way it was ****, but dancing penguins i just can't help but love it...

Kif 01-08-2007 03:23 AM

I got to sleep at about 5:30-6AM, I'm not sure exactly what time. I got up at 8 to go to uni, and when I got to the lecture I found it was cancelled.

On the plus side though, if it wasn't cancelled, I wouldn't have known semester B doesn't start for 2 weeks, so I probably would've stayed in town for another 2 hours for a workshop I don't even have today. I also found out I'm not in next Monday.

I am so freaking tired though. Stupid non-sleep.

Patrick O))) 01-08-2007 09:03 AM

If they should be able to teach about creationism and intelligent design in science, they should also be able to teach about how God doesn't exist

Jev 01-08-2007 09:36 AM

I don't learn about creationism :D

Patrick O))) 01-08-2007 09:42 AM

nor do I

lol @ leeds uni christian union: they're no longer allowed to affiliate themselves with Leeds uni. Reason being they're the most racist, bigoted, vile, oppressive and insinuous group of people in the university

They've been done for pulling down other society posters, crashing society meets to plug their own agenda, ffs there's a sub-group of the Christian union that's dedicated to preventing Christians from going out with non christians :-/

Jev 01-08-2007 09:52 AM

Oh man people like that make me laugh. Good on Leeds uni. I bet they're not too happy with it?

"Free film: the truman show

Followed by a short discussion on how it relates to our relationship with god"

Twas funny.

I can't wait til i go t uni and get to argue with these people.

EDIT:
Statement of Faith

1. There is one God in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
2. God is sovereign in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement.
3. The Bible, as originally given, is the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour.
4. Since the fall, the whole of humankind is sinful and guilty, so that everyone is subject to God's wrath and condemnation.
5. The Lord Jesus Christ, God's incarnate Son, is fully God; he was born of a virgin; his humanity is real and sinless; he died on the cross, was raised bodily from death and is now reigning over heaven and earth.
6. Sinful human beings are redeemed from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death once and for all time of their representative and substitute, Jesus Christ, the only mediator between them and God.
7. Those who believe in Christ are pardoned all their sins and accepted in God's sight only because of the righteousness of Christ credited to them; this justification is God's act of undeserved mercy, received solely by trust in him and not by their own efforts.
8. The Holy Spirit alone makes the work of Christ effective to individual sinners, enabling them to turn to God from their sin and to trust in Jesus Christ.
9. The Holy Spirit lives in all those he has regenerated. He makes them increasingly Christlike in character and behaviour and gives them power for their witness in the world.
10. The one holy universal church is the Body of Christ, to which all true believers belong.
11. The Lord Jesus Christ will return in person, to judge everyone, to execute God's just condemnation on those who have not repented and to receive the redeemed to eternal glory.
All of the highlighted things are fundamentalist and not straightup christian.

I hate christian unions, but not the people in them who don't know any better usually and are herded by one or two

elaborate plz (has never read a Discworld novel)

trysthedrummer 01-08-2007 12:18 PM

Maybe the world we live in, everything around us, was created by a sudden urge of crazy gasses, the big bang! lol

But who made those gasses are you going to say? Hmm, maybe no-one did, it was just there?

I think you can guess I never payed much attention in r.e

Jev 01-08-2007 12:24 PM

My friend got an E in his RE exam for pretending Jedi was his religion.

trysthedrummer 01-08-2007 12:26 PM

I think I got a D for re. Might have been a c though. :S

Jev 01-08-2007 12:27 PM

Yeah I got a C, couldn't really care less.

The_Passenger 01-08-2007 12:27 PM

Ha I didn't have to do RE after Year 6.

I had to do Prep for Life instead though, and that's probably worse.

trysthedrummer 01-08-2007 12:30 PM

Yeah but RE only upto year 9, so 3 years more.
And those lessons were just sat on a chair looking out the window :)

We didn't even do re in primary school

The_Passenger 01-08-2007 12:32 PM
Yeah but RE only upto year 9, so 3 years more.
Hm, I was under the impression that most schools did RE instead of Prep for Life. Guess I was wrong.

trysthedrummer 01-08-2007 12:34 PM

Yeah it was only upto year 9, unless of course you decided to take re further for your gcse subjects year 10 and 11.

I probably did do re in primary, I can't really remember what exactly.

Jev 01-08-2007 12:39 PM

RE was a compulsory GCSE thing for me.
elaborate plz (has never read a Discworld novel)
Basically gods were created along with the earth, humans etc.

and the more people that believe in a god, the more powerful it is

and the gods tend to be pretty arrogant and obnoxious and all they do is sit in this big tower, playing games with the lives of men (they would play chess with them but they're not smart enough)

and whenever anyone says they don't believe in any gods, they get struck by lightning

it's funny
My friend got an E in his RE exam for pretending Jedi was his religion.
If you're gonna fail, you may as well fail in style.

2muchket! 01-08-2007 01:41 PM

Got a C at GCSE. Bear in mind in one essay question I argued for 1 religion that I believe in (being the smart arse I am I chose Scientology). So my closing paragrpah was something like "behold all you heathens for the true ancestors of the human race will come and smite you all (excpet tom cruise)". I had to have 1 joke answer in a test that bad.
