// Dear LodJournal

Some of you may remember my ramblings about finding an OD pedal. After bouncing back and forth between the Fulltone OCD and just biting the bullet and getting a Carl Martin Plexitone I bought...

*drumroll*

Greenhouse Effects Goldrive

Just ordered it. Seeing I ordered it from a website who ships out of Texas *hopefully* it will be here by the end of the week.

JoshIsNumber3 08-31-2010 10:55 PM

EmbraceRandom 09-01-2010 02:49 AM

It sounds very Meshuggah when the drums come in!
I like it though, nice work.

The Black Fist 09-01-2010 09:09 AM

my band has come so far since being a meshuggah knockoff that sometimes it's fun to say hey let's play something exactly like they would do !

I'll hear none of that! Now run along and do it properly.

The Black Fist 09-01-2010 11:10 AM

the songwriting and retarded drum programming is clearly on a level beyond your comprehension

doubtful

EmbraceRandom 09-01-2010 12:50 PM

TBF: I don't know if you were being sarcastic but I actually get what you mean. I had a band about 4 years ago that was a pure Bodom rip-off (lol) but every now and again, I throw Bodom-esque stuff in music just to take the music somewhere else momentarily.

P.s. just watched the entirety of season 2 of Spaced. Epic series.
This bit was particularly amazing:

Steven Wilson just uploaded an entire albums worth of what he calls "Tape Experiments" from 1985-86. Sadly he used SoundCloud which has a 100 download limit on each track, I'm hoping for someone who grabbed them to throw up a torrent or re-upload them.

I skipped through it and found it pretty boring

Reminds me of Pink Floyd's long ass intros

Get to the CHUGGA CHUGGA, rite mannn?

EmbraceRandom 09-02-2010 03:38 AM

Gonna go with my cousin to help him pick an acoustic today, he wants to learn guitar so said I'd teach him. Thought a Yamaha F310 would be a good choice, £100. Gonna play it first though.

jaklyons 09-02-2010 04:14 AM

Just had my right ear cleaned out, now I'm like "holy shit, every sound in the world now has more high end, awesome".

Getting the other one done on Monday.

EmbraceRandom 09-02-2010 04:25 AM

How did they do it?

jaklyons 09-02-2010 05:16 AM

They just clean it all out with a jet of warm water. Feels a bit weird having water shot into your ear, but it definitely works. It's called 'syringeing' I believe, but there are no syringes involved.

I had to apply a couple of drops of olive oil in my ear twice a day for the last 4 days, which softens up all the wax, then they can use the jet safely. If you don't do that, trying to clean it all out just makes it worse.

The_Mop 09-02-2010 05:52 AM

I've heard it's like getting the worlds most extreme wet willy. To use an american term....

yah dat was gud.

EmbraceRandom 09-02-2010 07:25 AM

Ah yeah, I've had to use olive oil before. If you don't, the jet of water can actually perforate your ear drum, I believe.

And Mop, lol probably

lmfao Porcupine Tree has like two good songs. I saw them open for Coheed and he seriously looked like this the entire time. Ultra pretentious too

Barefoot performance

For live shows Wilson plays with bare feet. This particular custom goes back to his early childhood, where he remembers: "I always had a problem wearing shoes and I've always gone around with bare feet"[25] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Wilson#cite_note-Rockeyez-24). He also adds that another factor on performing barefoot is the advantage it gives in operating his diverse guitar pedals[26] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Wilson#cite_note-25).
Wilson:
"I’ve stepped on nails, screws, drawing pins, stubbed my toe, I’ve come off stage with blood just coming out… I mean, I’ve had it all mate, but to be honest, nothing’s going to stop me."[25] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Wilson#cite_note-Rockeyez-24)
He often uses a carpet on stage to keep his feet protected.
he had his guitar tech vacuum the stage beforehand. the dude was wearing an american flag cape. this was the best part of Porcupine Tree's set

EmbraceRandom 09-02-2010 09:13 AM

The Sound of Muzak is catchy as feck like

AG 09-02-2010 10:27 AM

If you need to take your shoes off to operate your guitar pedals, you've got too many guitar pedals.

Bruce E Kinesis 09-02-2010 10:28 AM

I quite like steve wilson just because he's british

and I like playing guitar in bare feet, it's true, you can adjust knobs and stuff

Sad But True 09-02-2010 10:35 AM

All this PT talk has reminded me that I STILL don't have a decent version of FOABP because the last 4 download have all been of the same crappy quality, inconsistent rip. /anger.

Bruce E Kinesis 09-02-2010 11:01 AM

aren't you on any private trackers?

purple_hazer 09-02-2010 11:50 AM

i play with no shoes too but i keep my socks on cuz i dont have a rug :[

way better than having shoes on!

The Transporter 09-02-2010 12:17 PM

I've found that people who play guitar while wearing no shoes are either hippies or gay

EmbraceRandom 09-02-2010 12:40 PM

or both?

She's the only person allowed to not fear footwear on stage.

+ I hear she fucks for tracks, hence the career.
