since there's nobody in the recording section of this site, i'm gonna post my question here:
Is this a good condenser/pre-amp combo?
I'm thinking of getting an AKG Perception 200 large-diaphragm condenser, and a ART tube MP project series pre-amp. Does anybody have any experience or knowlege of these that can offer a yay or a nay? What I'm spending on these is as high as want to go price-wise too, so no spendy recommendations, thanks.

vocals, guitar, overhead drum mic, and possible bass. Just all-around basically, that's why I picked this one, because it has the best bass capabilities in this price range.

i have a 57 and 58
edit:this is basically for my entire band, not just me because we practice and record at my house, and the reason i came here is because I know guitarists usually have the most experience with condensers (I'm a drummer). but yea, we will probably want to record acoustic with it too.

no, i said if a condition was met, than it would imply you were dumb. I never said that condition was met, because you havent stated as such. I let it open ended to decide for yourself.


edit : condensors are really favorable for acoustic recording actually. For all those uses, and the fact you already have an sm57 + 58, youd probably do nicely with the 200 series

Condensers aren't the greatest mics for guitars. Dynamics tend to have better results.

My condenser does acoustics amazingly well. Micing my electric amp with it usually produces sub-par recordings though. Your 57 would work much better.

i can see where you drew that conclusion. I was referring to the targa mentality that his POD sounds better than my amp.
