Paperback Writer does indeed rock.

I like Wild Honey Pie, but I'm also not a huge fan of regular Honey Pie. Some of the songs from Let it Be get old pretty fast though.

JonG 12-17-2005 01:20 PM

Paperback Writer is awesome.

I might get the Bangladesh DVD.

Magical_Mystery_Tour 12-17-2005 08:28 PM

I am a huge beatle fan, but there are some songs I don't really like. All the above mentioned ones (including Lady Madona, a song which I don't really care for, don't know y) and strangly enough, I don't like The ballad of John and Yoko. Not really sure why, but I never have.

As for a song I really like, Two of Us is such a great song. A product of John and Pauls creativity.

Jacaranda 12-17-2005 08:59 PM

Heh, I dislike quiet a few Beatle's songs. About half of the White Album and many from their early years. Ya, I'm a hater.

Seafroggys 12-17-2005 09:25 PM

I like Paperback WRiter, but the B-side (Rain) is definitally much better

I don't care for Lady Madonna, or Honey Pie. Wild Honey Pie has definitally grown on me for sure, I used to be "oh blah" about it.

Tell Me WHat YOu See off of Help is definitally one of their best early songs, as well as I Should Have Known Better.

Tell Me What You See skips horribly for me whenever I try to play it. I should try to clean some scratches off Help, because that and Act Naturally skip terribly. All the other songs are fine, but it's still annoying. My copies of Sgt. Pepper's and Abbey Road used to skip even worse, but since I cleaned them, they work fine. I need to do the same for Help now. It's been ages since I listened to Tell Me What You See.

I've always liked Paperback Writer, it's a rockin' song. One song, however, that I've never really cared for is "Back in the USSR." I'm not sure why either. It's not like it's a terrible song in any way really. I've just never liked it. The only real reason I can give is that it seems like a very cliche'd rock song, in that it sounds too much like other bands at the time (the Beach Boys especially) and it just doesn't sound very unique, unlike most of the Beatles music in the later years.

I'm sure most of you disagree with me but meh, that's just how I see it.
You still want to do something for the cover contest?

I just bought the Concert for Bangladesh DVD for my dad for Christmas, I can't wait until I can watch it with him.
Yea, get back to me on AIM and we can pick a song.

Cool, will do.

I love Back in the USSR! It's so Beach Boys-esque, it cracks me up. It's also just really catchy.

rockinbass17 12-18-2005 09:40 AM

Great song. The high pitched "Whoooowoowoowoo" part in the bridge always gets stuck in my head.

DeusExMachina 12-18-2005 02:40 PM

Whenever I hear it, it makes me want to listen to The Beach Boys.

blue3 12-18-2005 02:43 PM

I don't listen to the Beach Boys. Back in the USSR is a cool song though.

Krabsworth 12-18-2005 02:45 PM

I don't see why so many people dislike the early years, the songwriting was great, and the songs are actually playable.

Most people in this thread really like the early years. I certainly do.

Wasn't one of the Beach Boys present at the recording of that song?

I think he and Mike Love wrote that during the India adventure. Not to sure but I know Mike Love (lead singer of Beach boys) was up at India with them.

DeusExMachina 12-19-2005 01:50 PM

Wait, someone other than Brian Wilson did any of the songwriting at all for the Beach Boys? I am shocked.

El_Goodo 12-19-2005 05:19 PM

/orgasms I just heard the song "Don't Let Me Down" I think it's on Let It Be...Naked but it's on the pastmasters I was reading a review on allmusic and they said it was a good song.

I freaking love it, the vocals are amazing. Anyone who hasn't heard it...D/L IT NOW!

MBS 12-19-2005 05:32 PM

I don't think it's THAT good of a song...

Carne Evil 12-19-2005 05:37 PM

I heard that USSR was written as a tribute of sorts to the Beach Boys. As soon as they heard it, though, they said, "You need to say something about the girls!" From that comment came the "middle" portion of the song with, "Those Ukraine girls really knock me out..." and such.

HighVoltage, the Santa hat looks like its falling off John's head. Just thought it looked goofy. Nothing to be mean.

Meh. I was never really a fan of Don't let me Down. Just another John to Yoko song.

 Mike Love, the lead singer, helped write a couple of there songs, including Little Honda and Fun Fun Fun.

I've start listening to The Beatles lately. They have some really good songs, but I can't listen to too much of their music at once because it's too simple sounding.
My favourite Beatle's songs are Eleanor Rigby, I Am The Walrus, and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

I've been diggin alot of The Beatles too. I've been re-discovering the middle era works. Revolver and Rubber Soul just knock me flat when I listen to them. Favs have to be Taxman, Ticket To Ride, Tomorrow Never Knows, Nowhere Man, Flying, Come Together, and A Day In The Life.

Too simple sounding? Do you mean like the songs aren't complex?..

rbv 12-21-2005 01:38 AM

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds is the only song on Sgt. Pepper's that I skip occasionally. I like the chorus but the intro is kind of irritating.

The Beatles are supposed to be simple as it's the first pop band every basically.
