He uses his electric for most of the solos, and for the slides on High hopes and SOYCD
|
On the same subject, does anybody own any of Gilmour's solo albums, and how are they?
|
I have bits and pieces of them. About Face is a pop album basically, but it does have some good songs on it. The few songs from his first album I have heard I like.
|
So the Gilmour solo dvd is worth getting? Does he play electric stuff too, or just acoustic?
EDIT to Gilmour: Then I'm going out and buying it today :thumb:
Do it! It´s awesome, worth every single cent. :thumb: |
Anyone else hear about The Floyd rejecting 120 Million U.S. to do a tour? That's the most heartbreaking news I've heard in a long time.

Well, there goes all chances of a reunion tour. :upset: Oh well. At least we have the Live 8 performance. |

Yeah, actually they were offered 150 million to tour through the U.S but they rejected it... Also, with Live 8, the sales of Floyd´s albums have increased, but Gilmour said that he will donate the extra royalties he receives to charity. |
I've heard the selling of Pink Floyd stuff has increased with 1360% :| after live 8 a shame they won't tour :(

123 it would be sweet if they toured for free or something though |

...And Waters will keep all of his for himself, and still try and get more money. |
i havent looked through all the pages to see if something similar was asked but anyway: some kid just burned me a cd that had pink floyd-led zeppelin collaborations on them. One is Whole Lotta Love-On The Run, and was obviously mixed with a computer because they were both studio versions. The others were Wish You Were Here and Stairway to Heaven. The vocals on Stairway didn't really sound like zep, but I really doubt that it was a collaboration or even a cover. I created an account to ask you guys this, after reading the first 20-30 pages of this thread, you would prob know.

Cause you obviously know that  |
Oh yeah almost forgot, I talked to some guy of my class the other day 'bout Pink Floyd, and my teached suddenly talked along, he likes that band too etc etc. Then his story came, he was in belgium, he was a student many many years ago and some englisch guys wanted to play soccer to him, well he did ... Pink Floyd was performing that night close to where my teacher was ... He didn't notice at the moment but he played socces versus Pink Floyd ... Strange .... :P

Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin have never collaborated. There's some weird files circulating on P2P servers that are labeled as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, but it isn't true. |
i guess you guys didnt see the post i made a while ago but anyway
ill clear some things up Pink Floyd was offered 200 Million $ to tour the WORLD. They refused , and it is decieving but remember that David Gilmour said he would never do a tour without making a new album first. So maybe they'll make an album soon. Also, the 1360% increase was at american HMV's. for only Echoes. in total, out of all the bands that their sales were increased because of live 8, pink floyd has 5 albums. #1 : The Wall, 4000% increase, #2 : Wish you were Here, #3 Dark side of the moon #4 = Best of The Who, #5 = Animals, # 7 = Echoes. I think that's about right, and in total, pink floyd had about a 10 000% increase in sales. that's insane |
also gilmour said he's donating all extra profit caused by Live 8 to charity, and urged others to do the same.

Yeah, I saw a Led Zeppelin cover of "Comfortably Numb". I called bullshit, and was right. :) |
does anyone know where I could find promo videos of early floyd?
|
I've been listening to a sh!t load of Animals and DSOTM today :)

It's also amazing that Pink Floyd is being more recognized than just "some old rock band". |
Over one benefit concert?
Wow, that truly is amazing. It's also amazing that Pink Floyd is being more recognized than just "some old rock band".
the thing that intrigues me is that, have pink floyd really hit it with the new generation? i mean ALOOOOOOT of poeple already own albums like The Wall Dark Side.. etc.. How can sales shoot up like that? And what's even weirder is in our age of downloading music off the internet sales still went rocket high Unbelievable, Pink Floyd will never die. |
10,000 percent. Wow. That's a large increase in sales.
|
They all went and bought Echos? Lame I say.
See previous rants about pink floyd greatest hits albums. |
Echoes is good for people who dont know Floyd too much, but im still against it
but anyway i made some calculations and i dont know any exact numbers, but lets just say that pink floyd sells on average 1000 albums a day in the world and with a 10 000% increase (**** that's insane)... that's 100 000 albums a day now let's say on average a floyd album costs 30$, cause we all know record stores sell albums for ALOT. well atleast HMV does and they seem the most important retailer. that's 30 000$ a day regularly. with a 10 000% increase, that's what.. 3 000 000$ a day? woah.. and saying that the extra proft goes to charity means 2 970 000$ is going to charity, per day, unless the sales dropped dramatically. wow.. these guys could be so filthy rich they could certainly be many more times wealthier than the "richest band" in the world, The Rolling Stones. I disrespect the stones. Now class in calling themselves the richest band, they make a freaking tour every **** year, and the tickets are VERY VERY VERY expensive. I dont see them with expensive laser shows or anything like that. Apparently the best seating you can get for hte stones here in montreal will cost you 400$ from the ticket place. 1st row Pink Floyd Pulse in Montreal in 1994, was 40$... Think about it.. |
I saw on Yahoo! News awhile ago an article about Gilmour donating his $30 Million house to charity. Of course he has numerous homes throughout England though.
That goes to show you how big of a heart he has. And for the boost in album sales, maybe all those sad emo kids finally heard some music that they ACTUALLY liked (not pretended for the sake of being cool), and could still be cool listening to it. So they went out and bought PF's only Greatest Hits album to get a sample of some music where people actually play their instruments. |
Aaron and Jason- You guys should get a start on Wish You Were Here.
Lunch- Do you have any recording capabilities? |
these guys could be so filthy rich...
And they are! But I've read an interview with Gilmour somewhere, and they asked about the money aspect of the business. He said he actually feels bad about all the money he's made, and one time he gave a house to a charity to sell.. A mutli-million dollar house. I have such respect for him |
When you have that much money already, it's a little greedy just to put it all away. Don't want to be like the rolling stones :)
|
WheepingGuitar39, that's really cool in theory, but the sad truth is that the record companies get the vast majority of that money.
Dr. Jake Destructo, what's this about recording? |
