Especially if you want them to look good

POINTLESS5448 03-15-2006 06:50 PM

I did the C and the L really good when I made my Leftover Crack stencil so I think i'll be able to pull it off.

Ghostfire3 03-15-2006 08:40 PM

Well done.

El Punko 03-15-2006 08:40 PM

Thank you all

No, that was white acrillic paint. I probably wouldnt have hurt to put one more coat though, so Im hoping it doesnt chip away too fast.

Anarcho Poser 03-15-2006 10:10 PM

cool

Sebek 03-15-2006 10:28 PM

Looks really clean, nice.

El Punko 03-16-2006 04:45 PM

Thanks again
I like the little bomb.
Thanks, I was debating whether or not to put it on, because I thought it would look bad, but I think it looks alright.

Last night I got the sudden urge to attempt to make a stencil. I tried a Mischief Brew one and it didn't turn out to bad at all. I wanted to try putting it onto a shirt so I went to Michaels and they didn't have any normal white fabric paint in a spray can, so I just got a bottle of spray paint. When I sprayed it on an old shirt to see whether it worked, it was really pale and blurry. Is it because I need actual fabric paint, or is there some special trick to get it to work? Also, would it work to just use a small roller and paint it?

El Punko 03-16-2006 07:36 PM

I use a small foam thing on a stick and acyllic paint mixed with fabric medium for my shirts. It seems to work quite well. Also, Ive noticed white on black generally needs more coats than black on white to look good. However, if it was pale and blurry that probably means you need some adhesive to get the stencil to stay down, because it sounds like youre getting underspray. I got some spray adhesive for like 3 bucks at home depot. You just spray a little on the back of the stencil first, but not too much, or your stencil might not be usable afterwards. Give it a shot. good luck.

Daniel! 03-16-2006 08:14 PM

Thanks a lot. I'd also thought of using foam to dab on the paint, but I couldn't find any. I went ahead and used a roller to roll on some old fabric paint I found in my garage, and the shirt turned out pretty good. The stencil was all messed up from trying to use spraypaint, so I just threw it away. I'm going to go make a Specials stencil now and put it on another shirt. I'll post pics of both shirts later tonight.

El Punko 03-16-2006 09:29 PM

Cool, cant wait to see em. If the stencil was really too messed up from using spraypaint you must have used like half a can :p

There are the two finished products. I'm pretty happy with them. It's hard to tell, but the Specials one is black and the Mischief Brew one is blue.

Ghostfire3 03-17-2006 05:37 PM

The Specials logo looks kind of small, but nice work anyway.

DaveToopes 03-17-2006 05:53 PM

Both of those look good.

POINTLESS5448 03-17-2006 06:53 PM

that specials one is hot. my friend tried to make a specials stencil for his deck and its pretty sick. there was alot of underspray when he did it though. if i find the stencil ill take a picture.

the-UK-ska-scene 03-19-2006 05:01 AM

I'm gonna give stencil graf a go this summer, if any of you have tips, or any cool subvertising logos or anything, please let me know.

Also if you have any cool subvertising slogans that I can put onto stickers that'd be cool, I'm heavily into my sticker graf at the moment!

El Punko 03-19-2006 07:59 AM

Sticker graf is a lot of fun :)

As far as stenciling, dont try to cut with anything rather than an exacto knife or similar hobby knife-they are your friends. Pick up a can of spray adheseive for a few bucks, and make sure that when you put up your stencil you spray a bit of it on the back first (not much) This will help prevent nasty underspray. Dont rely on the adhesive to hold your stencil up though, use either your hand or tape. Cutting stencils is fun because it lets you get more personal than regular bombing. Oh, and dont make any Che Guevara stencils...

Oh, I forgot, stencils do not need a heavy coat of paint. If its a one layer stencil, you can be done in a few seconds. It may look like there isnt enough paint, but trust me, there is.

Check out the jacket I picked up for $12 in South Carolina.
