I don't even like them anymore, and I think Bon was better.

I think almost every thirteen year old boy goes through an AC/DC phase

np: Syd Barrett - Golden Hair
I can safely say I didn't, But then again I didnt really know anybody that could have exposed me to them back then.

Illmatic 01-04-2006 06:21 PM
Animals is slowly but surely developing into my favorite Floyd album. I've had hte tunes on my comp for a while but something happened to them, so I picked this album up for my B-day. It's solid song after solid song.
I never really got this album...it's pretty good lyrically, but musically it's fairly uninspired and even a little generic (Pink Floyd always made music that sounded like Pink Floyd, if that makes sense, but that seems pretty absent on Animals).

Not I

What about albums such as Atom Heart Mother? That albums sounds even less like the Pink FLoyd that everyone knows.

BigTrav415 01-04-2006 06:24 PM

I kind of half-went through my phase, but it was right after I had first discovered music really, and I was buying my second CD ever (The Wall, after DSotM; I actually knew nothing about the album, I just knew it was Floyd, and Floyd = good). I saw the AC/DC section, and I decided to get an AC/DC one too (I had never really heard an AC/DC song to be honest), so I got AC/DC Live. I have to say, it is still pretty good to me. I don't like their studio stuff at all, but live... much better if not great.

Oh, and Animals is easily one of my favorite albums of all time... I think Pink Floyd albums-wise...
Wish You Were Here->Animals->Meddle->DSotM->The Wall
Or something like that, I can never really decide.

True, it's not their best musical output, except for the bass on pigs, maybe. The playing is pretty tight throughout. But the lyrics are great, and they way they are delivered is very appealing to me. I can see what your are trying to say, though.

From what I heard (this comes from gilmour). That David Gilmour played the difficult bass parts in studio for Roger.

magicbus 01-04-2006 06:28 PM

I don't like Atom Heart Mother. The title track has some good parts, but overall it just doesn't feel like Floyd. Especially the addition of an orchestra. Please.

The same goes for Animals. I can listen to it every once in a while, but overall it just feels like a different band.

PinkFreud 01-04-2006 06:28 PM

the guitar work on dogs is top notch. i also like pigs a whole lot.

Unfortunatley, the Pink Floyd that everybody knows is ABITW PtII, and perhaps Comfortably Numb. Radio essentially killed the former for me; I was obsessed with it when it forst crossed my ears. But the latter remains one of the all time rock classics, at least for the most part. You never know when I song will get beaten to death.

For some reason Animals still sounds very Pink Floyd like to me. Next time I put in the album I'll pay closer attention.

I'm going to be frank. It's because you're black.

I think WYWH is now my undisputed favorite Floyd album, but Animals is still great. And I agree about AHM, it's not that good other than the opening track.

It might be the complexity of the music. I'm not saying it's all that complicated, but definently more than other Floyd albums. I'm used to Gilmour's easy blues scale soloing, and when he uses different scales and open tuning (like on Dogs) it gets all weird to me. It's like they started going in another direction than the simple, humble Floyd I've grown so much to like.

But maybe that's just my personal feeling about it. It could be great for all I know.

I like WYWH, but I don't like Shine On... That song tends to bore me a little. I really want AHM even though odds are I won't like it all that much. Alan's Psycadelic Breakfast seems so creative to me.

Eh, you're probably right. I didn't actually get into rock until pretty recently.

thickasabrick 01-04-2006 06:41 PM

I definitely went through an AC/DC phase when I was about 13. I think it's hard to compare Bon Scott era and Brian Johnson era because I despise cheesy glammed up 80's rock anyways....and had Bon Scott not died, he may have been a part of that era too. I do prefer AC/DC's 70's stuff, Let There Be Rock is my favourite album by them. I think it's a great album, nothing really stunning or "virtuostic"...it's just a really good rock album.

Yeah, as I've said before, I don't really like the musical aspect of Animals.

How was everyone's New Years? On New Years Eve my friends and I ate Morning Glory seeds for the first time....they were utterly amazing. We didn't eat a lot, just a light experience, because it was a big party and we didn't want to be tripping our ***'s off with fights and cops all around us. I've never seen such colours in all my life.

magicbus 01-04-2006 06:47 PM

My New Years was sub par. What are Morning Glory seeds?

Illmatic 01-04-2006 06:47 PM

At New Year's?

I was at a big party with a whole lot of my old high school friends.

I drank a lot. Some of it was normal social drinking, some of it was competitive drinking, some of it was due to the presence of my shrill, manipulative, dick-hopping slut of an ex.

All in all, I did have a good time.

Im not trying to say how great the album or anything of that nature, I seriously dont hear how it doesnt sound like Pink Floyd.

Glitterati 01-04-2006 07:13 PM

My New Years consisted of sitting at home watching Pulp Fiction while hoping for the clock to strike twelve already.

It sounds pretty lame, but that's the kind of guy I am. I'm not the partying type, mostly because a) I'm not exactly Mr. popular, and b) I have social anxiety. Not a fun combination....

My ex showed up at the party I was at. The funny thing was i rolling a blunt and and cheiffing it in her presence, and I told I never smoked.

I really want to try those. It's also appealing since it's not illegal to be in possession of them and the seeds can be bought anywhere that sells seeds/flowers. I'm just thinking someone might be suspicious of a 15 year old buying a bunch a packs of Morning Glory seeds.

Yeah, I want to try some too. From erowid, it says for an extreme, some people eat 400 seeds. How many are in a package?!

6stringed 01-04-2006 07:57 PM

Nice...talkin about gettin high in a classic rock thread. Ha, makes a good combo.

Here's a funny poem for u guys..
Peace, Pot, Tequilla Shot,

BigTrav415 01-04-2006 08:06 PM

You actually walked in at a really odd time, we usually don't talk about drugs, except when Schyma brings up getting mescaline for the first time soon and we (me) all say "...wha?" because we (me) are all stupid about drug because we (me)'ve never tried them.
