Has anyone seen The Song Remains the Same? I bought it but I'm only halfway through it

I really wasn't expecting the concert footage to be interspersed with random shots of Robert Plant riding around in the Middle Ages rescuing Damsels in distress
The Song Remains The Same isn't supposed to be a concert video, it's a movie. Although, everyone buys it for the live footage (including myself)

PinkFreud 01-04-2006 12:42 PM

yeah, you mightve been better off getting the soundtrack. haha.

MBS 01-04-2006 12:56 PM

The concert footage isn't even as good as the Zeppelin DVD or HTWWW IMO. :-/

np: Highway Star - Deep Purple
Has anyone heard their new(ish) album Bananas? I've heard it's great.
Never heard it, but I'm going to get their new album, the tracks I've heard from it sound like it could the best since their reunion in the 80s.
They sucked at Live 8. Gettin old I guess.
DP were at Live 8? I had know idea, what'd they play (new stuff or classics.)

MusicPimp 01-04-2006 01:36 PM

Is it just me or does every ACDC song have all the same chords, the same drumming and definitley that garbage johnson calls vocals?
like seriouisly whats with kids these days(the ones who like classic rock) and they seem to think that ACDC is the best, c'mon now. its time to stop giving angus so much freaking credit, HES CRAP!

MidnightRider 01-04-2006 01:39 PM
I'm diggin the Allman Brothers right now.
Aren't we all. I got their greatest hits for X-mas.

i slightly disagree...ya they use pretty much the same chords and what not but i find they are creative with it, and it just sounds cool. And as for angus i tihnk hes overated but hes not crap hes got some decent solos

Seafroggys 01-04-2006 01:52 PM

good man, I also don't like AC/DC very much, and I think Johnson is a better singer than Bon Scott.

pageunledded 01-04-2006 01:54 PM

..i also disagree with that ...IMO Bon Scott>Brian jonhson

in some songs they can be creative and i have listened to Bon Scott-era songs and they are definitely better than Brian Johnson's wailing. im not saying all ACDC's music is crap just the general group. "You Shook Me All Night Long" is a pretty creative song for those chords and the solo works, but the new recruits to classic rock have got to get over the AC/DC "hump" and move on to more well rounded bands such as: Led Zeppelin, The Who, Van Halen, Black Sabbath(yes sabbath is classic rock):)

MBS 01-04-2006 02:05 PM
Well rounded.... Van Halen
You have got to be kidding me.

MusicPimp 01-04-2006 02:09 PM

and to PageUnledded, as a fellow Canadian, are you at least a bit pissed-off at the lack of credit given to undoubtably one of the greatest rock bands of all-time----Rush.? I have read a good number of surveys and lists of the so called "greatest" and even in these lists each member of Rush has ranked quite near the top, Alex-one of the best guitarists, Geddy--crazy bass-lines, Neil--Best drummer of the last 25 years, and one of the best writers as well. The only other bands to be this well-rounded are: Led Zeppelin, The Who, and perhaps Cream. I hope that in the future, the public will get past the fact that they're just four canucks.

MusicPimp 01-04-2006 02:11 PM
You have got to be kidding me.
aside from sammy hagar and michael anthony van halen is well rounded

Eddie Van Halen-perhaps the first true virtuoso
Alex Van Halen-Truly amazing drummer top 100 material
DLR-not a good writer by any means but still a good vocalist, and he still wrote better stuff than that "lovey" bull-**** Hagar comes up with

PinkFreud 01-04-2006 02:16 PM

neil is not the best drummer of the last 25 years. maybe ONE of them but not THE best. and there are plenty of bands just as, or more, well rounded than them. yes, king crimson, and emerson, lake, and palmer come to mind.

edit: a few things, the EDIT button is useful. eddie van halen was not the first true virtuoso. that's the kind of thing a 12 year old says. being top 100 drummer material is not that impressive. and i'm not even sure he should be up there. and roth is not really a good vocalist.

MBS 01-04-2006 02:17 PM
aside from sammy hagar and michael anthony van halen is well rounded
The band can't be well rounded if you leave out 2 of the members.
I hope that in the future, the public will get past the fact that they're just four canucks.
They're three canucks.

oh for sure i don't listen to them as much as i should but i definetly think they are underrated. They are up there with the likes of zeppelin IMO....but for me zepplein the greatest ever. And lets not forget another great Canadain band the Guess Who...im pretty they're canadain right?

PinkFreud 01-04-2006 02:19 PM
They're three canucks.
HAHA. i didnt even notice that one.

MusicPimp 01-04-2006 02:20 PM

they were well-rounded in 1978 before Hagar, when only one member was sub-par, and we are talking about "classic rock", but mostly i agree.

MusicPimp 01-04-2006 02:21 PM
HAHA. i didnt even notice that one.
ahahah neither did i, Three then:thumb:

PinkFreud 01-04-2006 02:22 PM

EDIT BUTTON. stop double posting, the mods look down on it. and if a band has a weak link, theyre not well rounded.

MBS 01-04-2006 02:23 PM

So if 1 member is sub-par, they're not well-rounded are they

first thing--"perhaps the first true virtuoso"
EVH inspired many modern guitarists and many of those who are much better than him e.g Satch, Vai, Malmsteen.
and seriously a twelve-year-old?, you knew what "virtuoso" meant when you were twelve?, bravo.

MBS 01-04-2006 02:26 PM
EVH inspired many modern guitarists and many of those who are much better than him e.g Satch, Vai, Malmsteen
Not really, Satch and Vai influenced each other directly...

I did...

MusicPimp 01-04-2006 02:28 PM
Not really, Satch and Vai influenced each other directly...
i agree, but EVH innovated a few good modern techniques that they have mastered:chug:

PinkFreud 01-04-2006 02:28 PM

i was referring to the exclusion of such early virtuosos of jeff beck, john mclaughlin, ritchie blackmore, randy rhoads, and others.

edit: like what!? tapping? because people were doing that before him.

Rush30 01-04-2006 02:30 PM

all of those bands are great classic rock bands....and I am finaly glad to hear that someone other than me likes that stuff

MBS 01-04-2006 02:32 PM
i agree, but EVH innovated a few good modern techniques that they have mastered
Yeah, the technique of tapping on the e-string that every sub par guitarist can do.
