Adventures of Panama Red is a good album if you haven't heard it before Lunch. It's nothing like there s/t, but it's still good.

I have Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost Is Born by Wilco, they're pretty good I guess.

Wanton, your Waiting For Columbus avatar is sweet man.

Anybody want anything from my list?

Whoa, I meant to type in magicbus. Sorry about that.

led-zep-chris 01-03-2006 03:32 PM

I've recently got into The Who, I got Who's Next for this Christmas and its rocks! I downloaded this short video of Keith Moon doing a drum solo and throughout the solo the camera keeps looking at a goldfish bowl attached to his drumkit. Then at the end a woman from the audience asks "What happens with your goldfish?" to which Keith Moon replies "The goldfish? well...Well even the best drummers get hungry"

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 03:38 PM

uh huh...the who are cool. um... yeah.

that's not the best representation of moon's talent though.

never heard that story before, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Where/when was the concert? (if you know)

also, welcome to the thread, thank you for making a decent first post

np: Common/Scarface/Mos Def - The Corner (remix)

Lunch 01-03-2006 03:41 PM

I've seen the clip, I think it was on Pete Townshend's webiste (The Who TV). As far as I remember, it wasn't a concert, it was just an appearence by Moon on some talk show or something like that. I could be wrong though.

I have a clip of that. The solo itself is no more then a minute though, or not to my recollection. To clarify, I think the goldfish (and water) were inside the floor tom itself, and not a bowl. Maybe that's what you were trying to say though.

I'll have to dig that clip up somewere

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 03:48 PM

its on www.drummerworld.com

i warn you though. its not a good solo.

Distant Echoes 01-03-2006 03:53 PM

I don't have the video program to run that. I'd assume mine's a little crappier, but I wouldn't know.

Did moon normally do drum solos in the Who shows at any point (Lunch?)

Lunch 01-03-2006 03:55 PM

I doubt it, I've never heard anything about them, but I don't know for sure. He wasn't much of a solo player anyway, and during the Who songs he got plenty of room to work and use all his energy.

And for that, we are eternally grateful.

(sorry, I just don't like drum solos all that much...the only thing that keeps me from thinkign A Love Supreme is a perfect album is the damn drum solo)

I can't blame you, if I weren't a drummer I probably wouldn't enjoy them outside of just gaining respect for the drummer. I am glad that Moon didn't attempt solos though, they weren't up his alley.

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 04:02 PM

youre crazy. drum solos are great...for drummers.

Lunch 01-03-2006 04:05 PM

Notice: If anyone wants the Ox Anthology (2 Discs) AIM me or PinkFreud. My SN is lunch998.

RadKeysPlayer 01-03-2006 04:20 PM

I've been listening to tons of Van Halen lately. Mostly the David Lee Roth stuff. Speaking of David Lee Roth, I was listening to him this morning on KROCK. It's always good to see rock veterans still active with the public.

MBS 01-03-2006 04:34 PM

Didn't David Lee Roth replace Howard Stern or something? Him and Adam Corolla?

JonG 01-03-2006 04:36 PM

I can't stand DLR.

Go Sammy!
Anyone like Jefferson Airplane? I got their greatest hits for Christmas and I've been hooked on 'em.
ALL of their songs sound the same, the only good thing about the band is Grace Slick. I'd say they were the most overrated band from the Bay Area scene but they have the Grateful Dead to contend with. :p

Drum solos do bore me but on A Love Supreme, it doesn't bother me. I still think it's very perfect.

I feel sorry for you people who aren't on the Raggae/Dub mailing list, I just got some fantastic albums.

NP: Frozen Dub - Augustus Pablo

Prolly my favorite Beatles album is Abbey Road.

But, I got Rubber Soul and MMT for Christmas, so my opinion my change.

I love them. I only have Surrealistic Pillow though, can't find Bless It's Pointed Little Head or After Bathing at Baxter's.
All of them are great on that album. But on when Howe breaks into that slow chord progression on "Starship Trooper", and then keyboard and guitar solos follow, it is amazing.
Indeed it is. Close to the Edge, Fragile, and The Yes Album are all masterpieces.

EDIT: I don't know what my favorite Beatles album is. Probably Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road, and MMT.

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 06:35 PM

ooooh yeah. i wouldnt mind that either.
