There is no song called We Don't Need No Education. That song's actually called Another Brick in the Wall Part 2. There are three parts to Another Brick in the Wall.

Probably because you listen to made up songs about education.

Shazzam 09-08-2005 05:34 PM

lol seamus

I'd honestly say it's one of my least favorite Floyd songs, but I love the version on Pompeii (I can't remember what it's really called).

Well, I'm sorry to say you'll likely get hooked. Do yourself a favor and download a song called Echoes (it's 23 minutes long), or just buy the cd Meddle.

You'll have a new favorite song ;)

getting it now ty and 23 mins long jeez, i love long songs

BigTrav415 09-08-2005 06:40 PM

Prepare to get your ass owned by Floyd buddy. The entire album album Meddle is crack for crackers (god, i can't get that out of my head :( ) Oh, and hey, if you like good long songs, also get Shine on You Crazy Diamond. It's split into two songs, SOYCD Parts I-V, and SOYCD VI-IX. I personally prefer I-V, but that's opinion. VI-XI is ace as well though, don't get me wrong :)

Lunch 09-08-2005 06:42 PM

I think I'm one of few that prefer SOYCD 6-9. The guitar solo from 2:30-5:00 is orgasmic.

robo2448 09-08-2005 06:57 PM

Who was the bassist for Floyd in DSOT? He's much better than Waters. Of course it's better with Roger and the band together, but this guy is a better bassist than Roger. He's got a nice solo in Money.

It was Waters...

Lunch 09-08-2005 07:08 PM

The Delicate Sound of Thunder is from 1988 (I think), so that would put them after the break up.

OH, I thought he meant Dark Side of the Moon

His name is Guy Pratt. I personally don't think he's that great, his style didn't fit Pink Floyd's sound that well. Waters' sound was much darker.

That solo on Money is mediocre, as far as bass solos go. The rest of that song on DSOT is awesome though. Guy Pratt never sings in it, which helps.

Metalika 09-08-2005 11:24 PM

echoes was incredible, i am also getting shine on you crazy diamond ty guys for the great songs

I actually like the solo quite a bit, but its not all that bad. I will agree that Waters fit the band more. Pratt did a pretty good job of mimicking Waters' voice in Run Like Hell.

No problem man. If you're into heavier, more rocking songs, I'd definitely advise One of These Days. My favorite song on Meddle :thumb:

DeusExMachina 09-09-2005 01:43 PM

There's a bass solo in the DSOT version of Money? :amaze:

I will listen to it now.

Guy Pratt played bass on Pulse, right? I loved the bass intro to Learning to Fly. Simple, but great.

It's probably my second favorite on Meddle (Echoes is first), the bass line basically sounds like a galloping horse through the whole song, which kicks ass.

BigTrav415 09-09-2005 03:04 PM

By the way, on the subject of One of These Days, who is playing the second bass? And how do they make that crazy reverb effect before the lyrics? It didnt show on LAP.

I'd have to listen to it again, but isn't it just one bass with lots of delay?

magicbus 09-09-2005 03:28 PM
I'd have to listen to it again, but isn't it just one bass with lots of delay?
Yea it's just delay, I've done it before with my ME-50.

I'll check out the reverb part out again and see if I know what you mean.

What's LAP?

EDIT: If you mean the crazy noises just before the "One of the days.." line, I'm not exactly sure how they do it.

Prince of Darkness 09-09-2005 03:39 PM

I just listened to Meddle again and it rawks. It's really one of their bests. my favortites off the album: San Tropez, Fearless, OOTD, and Pillow of Winds. hehe. That's alsmost the whole album.

moaner 09-09-2005 03:39 PM

the synth sound in OOTD sounds like an electric piano.

Dave and Roger played the double basslines in the studio version.

DeusExMachina 09-09-2005 04:30 PM

I'm not a big fan of OOTD, to be honest. It's a good song, but nothing special.

Fearless and Pillow of Winds rock though.

moaner 09-09-2005 04:32 PM

i don't really like pillow of winds.

Riva 09-09-2005 04:49 PM

Guy Pratt's shining moment is that bass improv just between solos in ABITW2

Whale and Wasp 09-09-2005 05:41 PM

i love pillow of winds. a nice peaceful drifty song :)

thickasabrick 09-09-2005 06:15 PM

Pillow of Winds is a marvelous song.

Oh, DSOT is Delicate Sound of Thunder. No wonder I was so confused. They (PF) probably meant to do that just to mess with us.

FlyingPaul_83 09-09-2005 06:55 PM

who is singing on dogs?
who is singing on comfortably numb?

Sam 09-09-2005 07:06 PM

I'm pretty sure its Waters on Dogz

Waters sings the verse on Comfortably Numb, Gilmour on the chorus.

livinlavidatoka 09-09-2005 07:41 PM

YO man, like, i know its cliched and all, but like listening to pink floyd when you just smoked mad is like sooooo intense. theres like so many layers im just like dude man, where are those cash registers coming from, and why does it sound like they go to the beat of the song.. that gets me every time man. that and the fact that the music feels like it actually coming from inside my head, like i identify with whats happening in the music. the sonic blasts

hitting a bowl... like RIGHT NOW

dr._feelgood 09-09-2005 07:55 PM

Right on, man. Keep on tokin' on.

Lunch 09-09-2005 08:44 PM

Doesn't Gilmour sing on at least some of Dogs?

PinkFloyd 09-09-2005 09:30 PM

^He sings everything until Waters comes in for the last verse.

DeusExMachina 09-09-2005 10:00 PM

Gilmour sings on the first half of Dogs, Waters sings on the second half, I thought. But, I haven't listened to Animals in awhile, so I don't remember too well. I just no that the first speaking "dog" entity is Gilmour, and the younger apprentice dog is Waters.

I think it's kind of funny how much Pink Floyd is associated with drugs, considering that none of them (bar Syd) were heavy drug users.

BigTrav415 09-09-2005 10:09 PM

Meh, they all hit a joint or two in their day ;) Nothing along the lines of the Beatles and Led-Zep though, they were practically straight compared to them.

dr._feelgood 09-09-2005 10:16 PM

I heard Aerosmith did quite a lot of toking back in the day.

DeusExMachina 09-09-2005 10:19 PM

I don't really like Aerosmith. Haven't heard much, but don't like what I have.
