I'm the only one that likes Death Whispered a Lullaby? Woah, I always thought it was a pretty likable song.
Yeah same here, especially the later verses when theres the vocal harmonies and that delicious drum beat (something about it that I love).

shamed-angel 10-27-2005 02:55 AM
To Rid The Disease is my favorite on that album. Vocal harmonies in chorus =
Oh sweet Jesus that song is beautiful. I really love that album, because in ways you'd never notice, it has Opeth stamped all over it. I mean, although it's not the type of music they usually play, it's instantly identifiable as them.
My favourite song on there is To Rid The Disease.
"There's innocence torn from it's maker, and stillborn the trust in you.
This failure has made the creator. So would you tell him what to do?" :amaze:

Does anyone reckon this is the same creator from In Absentia's "The Creator has a Mastertape"?

Didn't Steven Wilson write that song? It's one of my favourite songs on the album, the intro riff is classic. I love the octave chords before the chorus...

Deth 10-27-2005 10:28 AM

I'm listening to 'To Rid the Disease right now'.

Oh and bump.

Jude 10-27-2005 10:33 AM

SW wrote Death Whispered a Lullaby. That song is amazing.
On Damnation...

Death Whispered a Lullaby = To Rid the Disease > Windowpane = Closure > Hope Leaves = IMTON = Ending Credits > Weakness

Deth 10-27-2005 10:40 AM

Tough.

To Rid The Disease > Hope Leaves > Closure > Windowpane > In My Time Of Need > Death Whispered A Lullaby > Ending Credits > Weakness

relliK 10-27-2005 12:15 PM

Death Whispered a Lullaby is my least favorite song off Damnation.

I don't see whats so awesome about it. The harmonies aren't that remarkable, and the totally supersaturated use of the Mellotron is annoying IMO. One of Opeth's worst..it's far too simplistic and cliche for me.

Det_Nosnip 10-27-2005 01:19 PM

Hmm...for Dam nation...that would be tough, as I absolutely adore the entire album. Flawless record, IMO.
None of that > bullcrap from me. ;)
He was, and I believe he's touring right now with PT. I wonder how much better he would have made GR... The other guy (name slipped my mind..) did a great job, but Steve also contributed to keyboard, guitar, and vocal parts, which ended up being a huge part on the past 3 albums.
I was sort of thinking he didnt work with opeth on this one, because they are now signed to roadrunner. IMO
What were the lyrics called in Lamentations? Eevill something or other .
Eeviel Cruellty or something like that

Out of curiousity, which tracks do you think have the best drumming?

You're my go-to guy for drums from now on.

EDIT: Yeah, it was Eeviel Cruelty

BurningSky 10-27-2005 01:32 PM

Death Whispered an Lullabye is my favorite off of Damnation as well...

My favorite part about To Rid the Disease is most definitely the bass. Mendez really grooves on this entire album, his best work with Opeth IMO...

rik 10-27-2005 02:04 PM

I've never heard any Opeth, but am curious. Anyone care to upload any for an Opeth virgin?

Deth 10-27-2005 02:06 PM

Let me see if I can get a few tracks up.

E-mail or AIM?

I'm uploading Godhead's Lament for you, don't know how long it'll take.

Damn, now hes going to get a bad impression of the band.
I'm listening to 'To Rid the Disease right now'.

I saw that beast live. :D Great tune. I bet lots of people thought it was oddly out of place on SOTU... :p

WTF? You don't like Godhead?

It isn't their best, but it's still an incredible song.

And to rik...if you don't like that song, be sure to check some of their others. Songs like Face of Melinda, The Moor, and Bleak are ones that pretty much everyone thinks are the best.

Its a decent song (though widly overrated, IMO), but I'm mainly bugging Deth. :D

The acoustic parts make that song, especially the 'what would they care if I was gay/did stay/made hay/whatever' part.

It was ok. Didn't do much for me, i'd have to give it a few more listens before deciding.

Listen to a better song, please.

Someone get the man The Leper Affinity or The Moor. And Face Of Melinda.

Kaiwaz 10-27-2005 05:27 PM

Not a good song to start with... IMO.

You're just here to mess with me aren't you Darkness .

Spinal Pap, I'll see if I can find the link.

EDIT: Sent to Spinal Pap.

Leper Affinity, Demon Of The Fall, Bleak, and By The Pain I See In Others are all great songs to start off on heavy Opeth with.

If you want lighter, Windowpane, Harvest, and To Bid You Farewell are all good choices.

Deth 10-27-2005 05:47 PM

Or Face Of Melinda for a good mix with no growling.

BassVirtuoso 10-27-2005 05:54 PM

Oh how I hate Godhead's Lament. I love the transitions in Ghost of Perdition though.

Deth 10-27-2005 05:55 PM

Why doesn't anyone like Godheads Lament :(. It's my 3rd favorite Opeth track.

BassVirtuoso 10-27-2005 05:58 PM

Because it's so, straightforward and unvaried. That's why I like songs like The Drapery falls, it gives you everything.
