BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 01-03-2006 02:44 AM
I fuking hate the doors, or any other draft dodging SOB
I hate you, now get out of this thread. :)

JonG: How can you say Sgt. Peppers ended weakly?

Revolver > White Album > Sgt Peppers > Rubber Soul > Magical Mystery Tour > Let It Be

Sgt. Peppers had about 4 songs I didn't care for other than that, fantastic album.

After 26 hours, my computer has pulled through, has overcome the impossible and finally downloaded that Allman Brothers file.

Leper 01-03-2006 02:47 AM

I got Grace in a 3 for $30 deal so yeah I definitely couldn't complain. Where do you work?

Schyma, you don't like Abbey Road? No mention or anything...

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 01-03-2006 02:50 AM

I knew I forgot something....:amaze:

It's between Rubber Soul and Magical Mystery Tour for me.

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 02:54 AM

i WORKED at borders. they didnt like me.

schyma, tell me how you like it.

edit: poor! abbey road is marvelous.

Leper 01-03-2006 03:00 AM

Abby Road is a very un-easy album with me. I believe it to be overrated at times. Which reminds me how I need to get another copy....lost mine.

NP: Toccata and Fugue, for organ in D minor - Johann Sebastian Bach

The most horrifyingly beautiful peice of music my ears have ever touched. I can't stop listening to it.......

can you upload it?
I'd say they are just about equal in psychedelia, but I like Sgt. Pepper's more. And Sgt. Pepper's is more popular than MMT mostly for the fact that it was a revolutionary album, there was nothing like it at the time. However, I believe that if you like Sgt. Pepper's, then you should give The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd a listen.
those albums were actually being recorded at the same time at abbey road studios. the pink floyd (as they were known at the time) asked to watch the beatles recording

Yep. Roger Waters says several times in interviews that he is a John Lennon fan and thinks his songwriting is amazing. Which is true, John Lennon was truly a genius.

I see we have a bitter Vietnam veteran, here.

Rook 01-03-2006 11:38 AM

Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, The Rollingstones, The Eagles....

Illmatic 01-03-2006 11:41 AM
Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, The Rollingstones, The Eagles....
What about them?

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 12:06 PM

haha. it irritates me muchly when people just list bands like that.

MidnightRider 01-03-2006 12:19 PM

Anyone like Jefferson Airplane? I got their greatest hits for Christmas and I've been hooked on 'em.

Broken Arrow 01-03-2006 12:47 PM

I have Surrealistic Pillow [bonus tracks] and Bless its Pointed Little Head on CD and both are pretty awesome. I love Bless its Head...., such a cool psychedelic live with lengthy jams.

magicbus 01-03-2006 01:30 PM

I like White Rabbit (of course), but I haven't heard much else. My brother's a bigger fan of them than I, maybe I'll listen to the "Worst of Jefferson Airplane" vinyl he bought.

Which brings me to my next point: when we put in our surround sound we had to get a new receiver that we couldn't hook the record player to, so it's in my room now

I just grabbed a bunch of vinyls of my dad's and mine to listen to.

Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
Frank Zappa - Apostrophe
The Beates - White Album
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Yes - Yessongs
Yes - Fragile
Yes - Close To The Edge
Yes - The Yes Album
The Warriors Soundtrack
New Riders of the Purple Sage - Panama Red
Grateful Dead - Skeletons In the Closet
Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced?
Band of Gypsies
A British blues compilation
Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues
David Bowie - Changes

We have a ton more downstairs too. That isn't a fraction of my dad's collection.

NP: Yes - Starship Trooper (live, this song pwns hard)

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 01:32 PM

i've always been a sucker for heart of the sunrise. great version on yessongs.

magicbus 01-03-2006 01:34 PM
i've always been a sucker for heart of the sunrise. great version on yessongs.
All of them are great on that album. But on when Howe breaks into that slow chord progression on "Starship Trooper", and then keyboard and guitar solos follow, it is amazing.

Illmatic 01-03-2006 01:34 PM

You guys know how I feel about Yes and the Grateful Dead, but the rest of that stuff sounds pretty nifty.

So I hear you're moving into a dorm  get prepared, there's nothing quite like it. Are you done packing yet?

NP: John Coltrane - Syeeda's Song Flute

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 01:34 PM

yeah. he's such a great underrated guitarist. the clap is so awesome.

magicbus 01-03-2006 01:38 PM

I need to do more packing, but I'm getting there. My roommate hasn't responded to my e-mail yet (he's foreign I think?), so I'm not sure what I need to bring and what he's bringing, but we'll see how that turns out. My hall has community bathrooms

I wonder if my dad has any Coltrane albums...I know he has Bitches Brew and a couple other Davis ones.

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 01:41 PM

ugh. community bathrooms. thank god i dont have those. ha.

magicbus 01-03-2006 01:44 PM
ugh. community bathrooms. thank god i dont have those. ha.
Yea I was a little skeptical because the few times I've stayed with friends up there, they've all had their own. But I look at it this way: I don't have to clean the bathroom and my room is bigger.

Well, when it comes to clothes, don't bring too many (obviously). Of course, the main strategy is to pack what you think you'll need, then over Christmas break (or Thanksgiving break) leave what you don't need at home, but obviously you don't have that strategy available to you. You generally want to do laundry three or four times a week if you play it smart. I know a girl who does laundry once a week at the most. That is what we like to call "overkill".

And along those lines, bring lots and lots of quarters. Trust me on this one.

And generally, what I've worked out is that whoever lives closer brings a lion's share of the appliances and such.

If he's foreign, it could actually be a blessing, but you never know.

He seems cool, I just hope he knows how to work the email and I'll hear back from him. I have plenty of quarters from work tips

NP: Yes - Close To The Edge

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 01:51 PM

NP: Miles Davis - Right Off

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 02:04 PM

that songs so sweet. that entire album, all 2 tracks of it, is just amazing. probably my favorite miles album.

I dunno if I'd take it over In a Silent Way, but it's definitely a great album.

edit - yeah, "Yesternow" is kinda weak, so I really don't think it's his best.
