Heh, I like that one popular Violent Femmes song, "Blister In The Sun".
I only really like two songs by them: "Blister In The Sun" and "American Music". I'll listen to their other stuff too but I don't care for it much. |
gimme the car, add it up, and kiss off are all great. thats such a cool album.
|
What is classified as classic rock, because i'm confused.
And i am convinced i like it, but i don't know. |
Alright I sent out the Otis.
I've never heard of the Violent Femmes. |
Alright I sent out the Otis.
I've never heard of the Violent Femmes.
They're not classic rock really, post-punk.
What is classified as classic rock, because i'm confused. And i am convinced i like it, but i don't know.
Rock music from around maybe 65'ish to the late 70's/early 80's. That's how I see it anyway. |
I have The Violent Femmes s/t (the album that song is on) it's really good. Some great bass playing.
Yea, the bass is good, but I only like one song on that album -- "Blister in the Sun" of course. |
Yea, Blister in the Sun is great. Bass is catchy as hell through the whole album, but that song especially.
|
What is classified as classic rock, because i'm confused.
And i am convinced i like it, but i don't know.
I'd say from the time of Presley to the early 80s was classic rock. However, some classic rock bands were playing into the mid 90s, Pink Floyd being one of them, with their last studio album (The Division Bell) produced in '94. |

I consider to be "Rock 'N Roll". He was mainly known for that genre. He was a little too early for Classic Rock. |
Right on. Cheers.
I'm liking more late 80s/early 90s  |
I've always been a fan of about '65 till '75 or so.
:p My favorite albums have been in that time. Most of them atleast. |
Yea, it was around that time that the most good bands were coming out and they were producing their best music, but of course many bands continued well after that period.
|
Presley wasn't classic rock, he did not play rock n' roll, now Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley are different storys from the 50's. And Pink Floyds later work isn't classic rock just like Voodoo Lounge isn't classic rock from the Stones, its really a time period. I'd say to the mid-50's to late 70's is classic rock.
|
Anyone else get that Lee Scratch Perry boxset from the Reggae mailing list?
Great compilation |
he did not play rock n' roll
Um, than what did he play? |
Yea, most will claim that he invented Rock 'n' Roll; combined Country and Blues, etc.
|
Country + Blues + hormones and gyrating hips = Rock'n'Roll \m/

I know, I never said that their later stuff was classic, I was saying many classic rock bands played well after the classic rock era had ended. |
I bought my mum a rhythm and blues cd for christmas, i love that type of music, the rawness of the singing.
|
Um, than what did he play?
I would consider it more pop, maybe Pop Rock, but back in the days I suppose he was Rock. But I've never really respected Elvis because most of his songs (To my knowing) were written by other people and given to him because of his imagine.
I know, I never said that their later stuff was classic, I was saying many classic rock bands played well after the classic rock era had ended.
Ah, my bad. My excuse is I just woke up. |

His stuff that he wrote for movies, now that was pop. Basically wrecked his career too. His early stuff, the stuff that wasn't influenced by Hollywood, now that was good rock. |
I've got it in my inbox, I'll check it out.
65'-------->'77/'78'/'79* *the years in which it died off Most of the god stuff was like JonG said, 65'-->75' altough there were good/great releases before and after that. |
Thanks for the Otis. Good stuff.
65-75 sounds about right with releases coming before and after that but that seems to be the real prime of the classic rock era. My parents have an Elvis Christmas cd. I never listen to it, but I probably should sometimes. I like some Elvis that I've heard, but Buddy Holly > Elvis. np- Bruce Springsteen- Black Cowboys |
Yeah, I still like stuff before '65 and after '75, but most of what I listen to falls in there.
I've been watching this for awhile now. It's hilarious. http://hitlermyspace.ytmnd.com/ |
I finally listened to Paradise & Lunch.
Great album; one of the finest Roots records you'll find. |
So there is Rock n' Roll that predates "classic rock"? Now there's something that makes no sense.

your avatar game frustrated me countless times as a child. |

The word "classic" doesn't mean first. It just means having lasting signifigance or worth, which "classic rock" does. EDIT: This Otis Redding is awesome! I need some more stuff like it. |
I never got the Otis Redding.
