Yeah, that and the war inside my head...the lighting and James' movements and expression are excellent.

nowitzki 03-22-2006 01:16 PM
Yeah.
That put me off the first time I ever listened to DT.
Its sound effects from Jordan's keyboard, don't worry.

Lord Abortion 03-22-2006 01:24 PM

That's a relief,

NP-Disappear(live at the Budokan)
I'm starting to like this song more.

SilverSpoon 03-22-2006 04:39 PM

I would just like to say that I am seeing Dream Theater tonight.

Any other Torontonians going? Any Torontonians check out the Petrucci clinic last night?

Jev 03-22-2006 04:41 PM

Lucky. Fly me to Canada and I'll come.

i absolutely love that song.

i'm a huge fan of DT's melower stuff like spirit carries on, goodnight kiss, through her eyes (it, more than spirit carries on gets me teary) and disappear.
best line = "i gave you my hand and said it's OK letting go time to leave here"
it's packed w/ emotion live...i think the song is better live than the album version.

EDIT: oh and tails, your icon is the greatest. nextdoornikki is probably my favorite model :]

nowitzki 03-23-2006 03:19 AM

Disappear is an incredible song.
Through her eyes doesn't do anything for me, its the only part of SFAM I ever skip, other than that the album is flawless.

Jev 03-23-2006 04:14 AM

I'm not a fan of Through her Eyes either. I prefer One Last Time much more.

Yeah, add Hollow years and take away my pain to that too.

FII's best, but new millenium and trial of tears are brilliant also.

DT song of the week-Lie

Jev 03-23-2006 04:18 PM

Lie has brilliant lyrics.

/States the obvious.

Lord Abortion 03-23-2006 04:25 PM

You did indeed.
I have been singing them all week.
Even the highly amusing last line

superflyjojo 03-23-2006 04:46 PM

I only have two Dream Theater releases, A Change Of Seasons and Train Of Thought. I've heard some other songs. Any recommendation as to what to get next?

NP: Iced Earth - Written On The Walls

Jev 03-23-2006 04:48 PM

Images and Words
Awake
Scenes From A Memory
Those 3 definately.

superflyjojo 03-23-2006 05:05 PM

I'll definitely pick those up soon. I saw them at Gigantour last year, and I've been meaning to pick up more stuff by them.

NP: Iced Earth - Curse The Sky

as does the mirror.
but voices more so :]

i wish JP's solos were more like lie's. im really not too much of a fan of ToT's solos.

Erotomania 03-23-2006 10:49 PM
Im listening to The Glass Prison and is there scratching on a turntable about 6:30 to 7:00 minutes in?
But it makes it sound ****in awesome!!

ghettoeddo 03-24-2006 12:21 AM

hope james gets better before the DVD...

i ordered scenes from new york DVD today. i decided i need the DVD and the CD, so i'll be ordering the CD too. tehy should've just included all the songs on teh DVD and made it 2 discs or something...

Drunken Viking 03-24-2006 01:33 AM

The DVD is brilliant, the best live performance of any band I've ever seen.

On first listening I was like "WOW" but every solos shred, no melody or anything so some of them just sound wanky.

Elektra didn't give Mike the go-ahead for making a double dvd set, however if they did, he would of defintely put all the songs on there.

ValeOfShadows 03-24-2006 04:56 AM

Im really loving These Walls. Great song.

NP:these walls

kurrpt 03-24-2006 08:43 AM

Jev 03-24-2006 10:37 AM

Live At The Budokan

or

Live In Tokyo / 5 Years In A LIVETime?

Which DVD shall I buy?

Apocalyptic Raids 03-25-2006 07:45 AM

Depends how much you like Train Of Thought.

ever eeking always rupert 03-25-2006 07:48 AM

I like everything equally. I would like to know which has better performences and which is better quality.

Budokan definetely. The quality is great, sound is awesome, and the camera work is amazing. The material ain't bad either. And the second disc has a very cool DT documentary.
Live At The Budokan

I own the CD for Budokan and the Live IN Tokyo/5 Years in a LiveTime DVD, so I can't give you first hand comparisons for camera work or quality. But I have scene several parts of Budokan online, and I can safely say its a superbly produced DVD. On the other hand, Tokyo/5 Years has tons of rare stuff you wouldn't hear them play any more.

The first disk is a bit poorly put together, with clips of the band on tour intercutting the actual concert footage (although some of these clips are actually quite funny.) The performance itself is amazing, even if LaBrie screws up a bit. There's superb performances of Surrounded, Wait For Sleep, To Live Forever, A Fortune in Lies, and Take the Time. And most amazing of all, Myung crosses over to stage left.

The second disk also has some really great stuff, with great performances from their "unplugged" fanclub show in '98, their Awake World Tour in '94, their "uncovered" fan club show in '95 (where the covers on A Change of Seasons came from - the singer from Napalm Death, Steve Hogarth and Steve Rothary of Marillion, and Steve Howe guest on it) and the show were Once in a LiveTime was recorded (the version of Peruvian Skies is awsome.)

Sorry about the long winded post...

Lord Abortion 03-25-2006 12:03 PM

I prefer Budokan, TBH, The first disk of 5YIAL is excellent. I <3 surrounded, but the second...the material isn't brilliant, to be honest, and for FII tracks, the best ones are on LATB anyway (sadly excluding take away my pain)

ghettoeddo 03-25-2006 01:03 PM

budokan is much better produced. by far. if that's any indicator of how this latest one is gonna be... :]

did anyone else notice the ORCHESTRA PIT at the radio city music hall in NY? and seeing as how they used an orchestra for sacrificed sons and 8vm...eh? eh?

any thoughts on DT using an orchestra? reminds me of metallica's S&M, which actually wasn't too bad

edit: oh snap, jk. looks like the seating plan doesn't have an actual pit?
damn.

National chaos sam 03-25-2006 01:23 PM

I dunno, i liked five years in a livetime, the audio commentary was very in depth, and some of the events are pretty memorable, like the show with Steve Howe and Marillion. allthough its a bit mismatched...
