So raise your hands if you get $950

Aaron 02-02-2009 08:55 PM

Word.

big80smullet 02-02-2009 09:03 PM

i have 950 if thats what you mean

gaslight 02-02-2009 09:05 PM

I have $950 too but I don't "get" it with any regularity.

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 02-02-2009 09:13 PM

yeah, i also have 950.

gaslight 02-02-2009 09:20 PM

Ace is screwing with us.

Aes820 02-02-2009 09:26 PM
It means 8.7 million workers earning $100,000 or less will receive a lump sum payment of up to $950 each from April.
So if you work and you earn under $100,000. There's a high chance you'll get $950.

Which is pretty good because, being a single 20 something middle-income bloke, I usually get shafted when it comes to tax breaks.

Aaron 02-02-2009 09:29 PM

Woo, serio?

Chu 02-02-2009 09:30 PM

Also, $3.9 billion worth of free insulation apparently.

Something like 2 million Aussie homes have very poor insulation, it is a massive hole in terms of greenhouse gases (in Winter, they abuse their heating, in Summer, their cooling), with some decently insulated houses, should be good - he mentioned a saving in the billions ($$$) Australia wide, I don't know if it's that extreme, but any saving to greenhouse gases is good imo.

Just wonder if it applies to any of my houses.

I won't be getting any money though.

gaslight 02-02-2009 09:34 PM

Define "work".

I should get money, I think.

I earn money as a sole trader but I should have an official employment or two by April.

Aes820 02-02-2009 09:35 PM

It goes off last financial year. So if you paid income tax and earned under 80k last year, you get it.
I haven't read fully up on all the details.

But if that $950 shows up in my account I'll be chuffed.
I can use some of it to pay back the $540 or so that I owe on last years tax.
Then piss the remainder against the nearest wall.

Chu 02-02-2009 09:39 PM

Sounds very Australian Chris :)

gaslight 02-02-2009 09:41 PM

Oh :(. I didn't pay any tax last financial year.

Aaron 02-02-2009 09:41 PM

Woo! 100 basis points.

gaslight 02-02-2009 09:42 PM

Basis points? Aaron's possessed again.

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 02-02-2009 09:47 PM

i work in a pizza shop and earn alot less than that, do i get another $950

big80smullet 02-02-2009 09:50 PM

by last financial year does he mean the one we're in now?

Aaron 02-02-2009 09:52 PM

What if I didn't do tax last year?!

Cash rate. 100 basis points = reserve bank dropping cash rate by 1.00%

big80smullet 02-02-2009 09:56 PM

i paid income tax from september 08 do i get money?

Aaron 02-02-2009 09:56 PM

Last financial year was July 2007 to June 2008.

Aes820 02-02-2009 09:59 PM

Financial Year 07-08

Even if you didn't submit a return you no doubt still did pay income tax.

A cash rate drop of 1% isn't that great for me just yet. As I'm on a fixed rate and my savings are now earning me next to nothing.

But... I'll be refinancing next year so the rates still should be low by then. And the low cash rate now gives me the excuse to spend up. New kitchen, bathroom, swampy.

Looks like students get some cash too.

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:01 PM

80% of mine is fixed till 01/11/2009 so I see a little. Will be stoked when I get to then though, haha.

gaslight 02-02-2009 10:04 PM

Nah there was no tax paid by me, I had no official income.

I don't think I even counted as a full time student because of the way my course is structured, so I might not get either of the monies.

Nice, maybe I will then (doubtful, after taking a significant amount from the Australian government only 2 years ago - I'm still banned from Centrelink for at least 6 more years).

Also, with the impending drop in housing prices, just save up and buy a new house when you need it, rather then spending money on a potential renovation. lol
