nm - everything I try and crit, I can't find anything to say about.
Well surely you have an opinion on it; was it good, bad, what? At this point, I'll take anything.

TojesDolan 01-14-2007 05:06 PM
Alright, 1 crit, (thanks to Surf) 44 views, and it's sinking towards the bottom of the page.... who wants to trade a crit for a crit?

Here's my piece: (Small Tree On Franz)
http://sputnikmusic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=509686

Just post a link to your piece and I'll begin critting.
Forums are slow, good reviewers and critics are scarse and usually busy with life, or gay fags like myself occupied being engineers more than anything.

Patience, young lad.

yeah, it was good, I enjoyed the writing in parts, but I disliked the subject intensely. I always hated the slightly melodramatic aspect of recounting the death of someone, as it just feels like it's constantly trying to tug at your heartstrings and make you feel bad for the reader as opposed to the person that died. Almost as if saying "nevermind the guy that died... what about ME??!?!"

Yeah, but it was well written and stuff. :)

RunAmokRampant 01-14-2007 05:13 PM

I watched Deliverance for the first time last night. Now I know where all the redneck stereotypes hail from.

np: the black keys - your touch.
My friend showed me this bands, they're pretty safe.
everything I try and crit, I can't find anything to say about
I'm having that problem. I'm not even bothering to just direct people to the guide anymore. I enjoyed doing that, it was easy :( Nowadays the only time I really sit down to crit things is when I'm hung over and tired. Like now. Ugh at student cliche.

It can work, it can be done so that the death isn't the main focus, just the reaction to it. 'Mid Term Break' would be a classic example - the narrator is too young to comprehend the concept of death, but the poem is very good in its telling of his reaction to it. It does have to be dealt with delicately though or, like you said, it comes of as narcissistic and egotisical. But I thought schyma did well.

Hours later edit: I've written something, but its about fertility/miscarriages. bleh. And its pretentious. And i had to put religion in it again. Mayeb see it sometime soon. I don't know.

steven o'toole 01-16-2007 01:13 AM

what are you discussing

i'm confused as to what the topic of your forum thread is. I guess if I were your teacher I'd ask, ummm i don't see your thesis. in response i'd imagine and forecast the following response: "do you think I'll check the replies to my post? and as my writing is a product of my reality, and being as it may that our realities are fairly similar due to our shared capacities... when has your reality ever had a thesis?"
to this forecasted response I would invite you for a drink, or to hang out with me... bars often have mirrors behind their booze collections... and conversations often have hints of well, 'respond to me this way'.

Check out my recording i made tonight. guitar and keyboard, see if you think things about it..

On some other forums - art ones, for instance, you have each member basically making a 'collection' thread - saves for people having to find every thread you make so they can crit.

I just thought it would be a nice idea for me to type a few of my favourite songs into one thread instead of filling up a few pages with them.

Follow suite because it is obviously more convenient.

anyway i haven't typed up my thread yet so bear with me.

TojesDolan 01-16-2007 03:24 PM

Search > User: Jon > find: threads > go!

That's about it.

Anyway, that would be plausible if the community was tighter, which would probably be boring. So no. I like criticizing different threads and making new threads evey time I come up with interesting sh¡t.

Jon 01-16-2007 04:12 PM

well tbh i want all my lyrics in one thread and my joindate is older than you so I don't really think its a problem.

I'm not asking you to crit all my lyrics but I'd prefer all my lyrics to be in one porfolio rather than strewn around the forum.

TojesDolan 01-16-2007 04:18 PM

That doesn't make you a better songwriter than me so OK.

And uh OK then go ahead we'll make an exception with you I guess.

*sigh*

Also Microsoft Word or Notepad are your friends.

Surf 01-16-2007 05:31 PM

I think that's a terrible idea. More news on why in your thread.

And please don't use the join date arguement. I am older than you. Does this mean that I am better at life? And joindate is really a great indication of either time spent on the forums or actual writing ability.

Oh well

Jon 01-16-2007 05:41 PM

03 > 06 get out.

I'm joking :)
