What are they like? The name sounds post-rocky..

The past few days I was rocked by

The Filaments
The Slackers
Okkervil River
Fugazi
Squarepusher

Metric.

I've always thought they were... alright. But they released a new single off Old World Underground, which is awesome. So it made me get the album. It's good stuff.

Today I have listened to:
Demon Days
Architecture in Helsinki-Fingers Crossed
some Yo-Yo Ma

I've also been trying to get into Rilo Kiley, but the few songs I have the girl seems to have a talking/singing voice instead of just singing. Are all of their songs in that fashion?

Listening to the new Coldplay album. Only heard the first two songs, but they aren't very good.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 06-03-2005 06:37 AM

Speed Of Sound sounds waywayway too much like Clocks. Way.

I'm still being insanely creeped out by Summer Make Good by Mum. And I'm getting back into ( ) by Sigur Ros too.

They're both from Iceland. Coinkydink!2two

Yesterday I bought:

Various Artists - The Blues (Dejavu Retro Gold Collection - 2CD Deluxe Edition)
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
Robert Johnson - The Complete Collection

All for £17 - well pleased, especially with The Blues 2 cd set.

Also received 1 Speed Bike - Droopy Butt Begone from ebay today, haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but I've wanted it for ages, hopefully it will be good.

Robert Johnson - The Complete Collection (9/10)
Blur - Parklife (10/10) - for some reason I never really listened to it properly - today was the first time.

Digging 1994. Pine wood benches, baseball cards, a sony walkman casette player and Bone Thugs N' Harmony's E. 1999 Eternal.

TalkingHead 06-03-2005 02:48 PM

The Afghan Whigs, and loving every moment of it.

Happymeal 06-03-2005 02:49 PM
Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy (6.9/10)
I like them more than Bright Eyes.

I've been so allured by Fugazi, Against Me! and The Slackers lately. Especially The Slackers.

The NPC 06-03-2005 03:03 PM

The Nercos

I'd probably give that a 7/10... :-/

Yuppy Resturant Goers Beware..., My Kitchen Is..., and The Day That Mauro Ran Over Elwy Yost are really good. A few tracks are meh and the rest sound the same.

A third of the album sounds like Can sans everything but percussion.

Tangy zizzle 06-03-2005 10:58 PM

New Malkmus record is good.

ATM 06-03-2005 10:59 PM

Devin Davis- Lonely people of the world, unite!!!

This album just floors me everytime I listen to it. It's filled with saxaphones, pianos and backup singers (Every instrument was recorded by Devin Davis, btw). The whole album is around 35 minutes, (most songs are around 3 minutes long) which means there is rarely a dull part in any song, and can go from a 60's brit invasion sound to Pink Floyd psychedellia too pop punk in an instant. The lyrics are another standout thing on this album, dealing with everything from vikings to pirates to a turtle that helps a flightless bird.
This is one of the best records I've heard all year, and I'm pretty sure I already know whos going to be on the top of my 'best album of 2005' list.

Tomahawk 06-04-2005 09:49 AM

That sounds pretty interesting, I'm gonna check it out.

I've downloaded a couple songs from his website. I like his stuff. When he does that little "wooo-o-woo-a-whoo" on "Deserted Eyeland," I think of Stephen Malkmus. I mean to pick the album some time.

Zappa 06-04-2005 04:46 PM

The samples on the Shpongle website from the new album. I'm also digging their old stuff in anticipation.
