|
you've obviously never watched the show
|
oh wait hold on I'm mixing it up with monster quest
but I'm not too far off: "River Monsters travels worldwide with host, biologist and extreme angler Jeremy Wade to explore freshwater mysteries and local folklore, possibly debunk these myths and track down these harrowing tales." |
it's just a biologist that hears stories of some creature, goes and tries to catch it while piecing together stories from the locals
it's pretty scientific actually and isn't that sensationalized. I like it a lot |
forgot to get mail on friday
open mailbox today 2 govt tax rebate checks to me $400 fuck yes |
downloading Preacher, Swamp Thing and Sandman
Ah Gaiman and Moore huh? I read some Sandman a friend of mine let me borrow. It's pretty good but wasn't that impressed. I need to read the Alan Moore Swamp Thing run some time. Don't know much about Preacher. I actually just read an issue of Spawn by Gaiman, one by Frank Miller and one by Alan Moore. This is what I reccomend if you want to get into some dark and gritty comics: The Dark Knight Returns- Frank Miller (best batman story) Batman: Year One- Frank Miller The Killing Joke- Alan Moore (Joker origin, batgirl gets paralyzed) Akira- Katsushiro Otomo (my favorite manga ever) I would also reccomend some Amazing Spider-man, it's more light hearted but some of my favorite stuff. Roger Stern Hobgoblin Arc- ASM 238-251 (approximately) ASM #300- First Venom fight, Todd McFarlane art ASM #121-122 probably the most important spider-man story ever. Gwen Stacy dies and so does Norman Osborn. This marked the end of the silver age of comics, very historically important. |

I'll keep those in mind, thanks :) |
is that akira manga that dystopian cyberpunk thing?
because the movie sucked. |
I really liked the animation in Akira. I never read the manga but apparently the anime differs from it greatly.

movie was awesome

I heard awesome things about The Killing Joke. Man I've been out of the comic/graphic novel circle for a whiiiile.
|
it's really good too
probably doesn't seem that revolutionary now because the batman/joker dynamic it defined has been done so much since but it's all perfectly done I've been out a while too, just got too expensive. Might start buying stuff again now I have a paycheck coming in. |
Any good comic places near you? I only have one that has a decent enough selection.
is that akira manga that dystopian cyberpunk thing?
because the movie sucked.
Yes. The movie is good animation wise but the story is so convoluted it's impossible to understand just from seeing the film. The story in a nutshell with very few spoilers: Akira is set about 50 years from now in the future. World War 3 broke out sometime in the 80s or 90s because a government test subject, Akira, used his psychic powers to level Tokyo by accident and people thought it was an Atomic Bomb. Fast Forward to their present time and Tokyo is rebuilt as Neo-Tokyo. Their are terrorist cells everywhere, biker gangs, drugs a plenty, and religious cults. The government has been secretly been using new drugs on children to develop psychic powers. One of these kids, Akira, was far more powerful than the others and went out of control and caused WWIII. They got scared and cyrogenically froze him beneath the Olympic stadium. The main story follows a biker gang. Kaneda and Tetsuo are two orphans who grew up together. Kaneda is the leader of the gang. He's older, brave, good with girls, confident, outgoing and a natural leader. Tetsuo is two or so years younger (15), he's shy, has an inferiority complex, lots of anger and plenty of other emotional issues. The two are best friends, but Tetsuo resents Kaneda for always ordering him around and being more popular. Tetsuo runs into one of the government test subjects and is abducted and experimented on by the government. He develops psychic powers that rival Akira's and they quickly accelerate out of control. Tetsuo goes on a rampage and all his anger comes to the forefront. He gets really addicted to the governments' psychic drugs and his amphetamine addiction grows worse. He turns against the government and his former bike gang and forms his own gang and goes on a killing spree. Kaneda has to go after his former best friend but has trouble hurting him because he cares about him so much. Tetsuo releases Akira from his prison and they form an empire of psychics with Tetsuo as Prime Minister and Akira as Emperor. A power struggle ensues between a terrorist cell, the Japanese government, America, The Great Tokyo Empire (akira and Tetsuo), a religious cult and Kaneda's biker gang. I know that was long, but that really is a condensed version lol. The story is extremely complex and well written. The characters are all very well developed and it's one of my favorite comics, manga or otherwise of all time. It's six 300 page or so volumes. The movie really doesn't do it justice because they try to cram all this story into 2 hours and there just isn't enough time so it becomes a mess. I highly recommend it. If I had to pick any single graphic novel/comic/manga to read, this would be it. |

The Killing Joke is great. I'm reading the very last book of Y the Last Man. One of the most entertaining comics I've read. I need another short series like this. |
a shit movie
Lady Gaga isn't even in it what the hell |

downloaded 8 movies yesterday, now to actually bother to watch them instead of download music and play tf2/eve
|
you probably watched it dubbed Austin, it's sort of hard to judge the voice acting of the overall package that way. english dubs tend to be atrocious. but the animation was superb idk how anyone can deny it was an ambitious task which they pulled off well, even the story lets it down for the reasons blockhead specified
looking for artistic ambition in anime when you rate black and white avant-garde asian art movies 10/10 on the regular seems kind of silly |
I'm keen to give the Akira manga a try actually.
Might re-watch monster actually, now that was an amazingly enthralling series, would recommend it to anyone. |
Ponyo and Pokemon are p much the only anime things ive ever watched
oh and Zoids i fucking loved zoids |
I am surprised. You all haven't killed each other yet.
|
hi bobo how are you
|
Not quite sure honestly.

Evenin' peeps, how 'bout that bball game eh?
(not sure if anyone is on that watched it..) |

The animation was great for 1989 what are you talking about? And by "acting" do you mean the English Dub or the original Japanese? If you're going by the dubbed version then wow, you're a dumbass. Akira isn't pretentious, it's just a really intricate story that doesn't translate well to film. And the anime is bad story wise, don't judge the manga by the anime. Like I said they tried to cram a really long, intricate, involved story into a two hour movie and it doesnt' work. Don't act like you know all about it because you saw the sub par movie adaption. |
Evenin' peeps, how 'bout that bball game eh?
(not sure if anyone is on that watched it..)
"GOD DAMN IT!" LeBron fiercely slammed his locker door shut. Tears were streaming down his cheeks like the bricks streaming from his hands during the game. Faint chants of "LeBeta" and "LeBrick" and "LeChoke" were ringing in his ears. He hadn't felt this bad since he walked in on his mom and Delonte West. "Don't worry Bron, we'll get 'em next year." Dwayne Wade soft hand stroking LeBron's arm was a small comfort. Dwayne had been LeBron's shoulder to cry on the entire series, and the only thing that kept him stable through the first five games. "Shower down boys, and take your time. We have long set of interviews set up." The dissapointment in Erik's voice sent shivers down LeBron's spine. He had let his coach down. Maybe it was the stress of the Finals or the strong feeling of being beta, but LeBron couldn't stop glancing at his teammates Dwayne and Chris as they were lathering themselves, heads held low. He had felt so close to them throughout the season. Dwayne could see LeBron's quick glances through the corner of his eye. He paused for a moment before slowly walking over. Dwayne caressed LeBron's cheek, wiping a few errant tears away. "Don't worry LeBron, you don't need a stupid ring to be happy." Chris Bosh, feeling the sexual tension, bent over and looked back with his ostrich-like neck, stretching his anus wide... "Hey LeBron, I got a hole you can put your finger in..." |

It's like those people that think they know about Dragonball (the whole series is called dragon ball, Z is an arbitrary qualifier for the second half added to the anime) when they have seen the fucking Cartoon Network Version. The real uncut Dragonball is totally different. The voice acting is 10x better, it has much better music and not that corny Nu-Metal shit, there's cursing, nudity and wayyy more violence. The dialog is so much different in the edited version. They call it "another dimension" instead of "hell." They call Mr Satan "Hercule." And they call God "Kami" and Heaven "Kami's Palace." Kami is the japanese word for god any way I don't know why they didn't just call him God like they do in the manga. People also vomit blood and shit. There are a ton of sexual references and religous references that get cut out of the CN version and every thing in general is toned down so much. The Cartoon Network version is an almost completely different and much gayer show. People who judge anime by the Americanized, dubbed and edited versions are really ignorant. Art should be judged by its original version, not the bastardization of it. |
