I heard some STP the other day on my classic rock station
What song? I could accept STP on CR radio, but only because I like them alot :). And yes, I was just kidding about rap being crappy. I do like Fidy Cent though. |

I cant recall. so only you decide classic rock? Aesop rock is an awesome rap artist BTW |

Aesop rock is an awesome rap artist BTW
Well to me, only my opinion matters. So yes. I consider U2 classic rock because I like them a lot, its all a matter of opinion really. |
I dont mean any offense to anyone, but personally I think 50 cent is the worst recording artist to ever live.
No, Ashlee Simpson. |
No, Ashlee Simpson.
No, 50 cent. I can rap better than he can. |
No, 50 cent. I can rap better than he can.
So can Ashlee Simpson, snap. I bought my first Moody Blues album. It's pretty good. It's a mixture of classical music and pop, but has some great moments. |
I like U2 a lot. I'm not sure if they're classic rock, kind of right on the border but I'm a big fan of theirs.
I hate Ashlee Simpson. I don't think 50 Cent really possesses any talent but his music is pretty catchy. I wouldn't rush out and buy any of his albums, but I don't mind him. I don't like Yoko's "art" I have no idea what's going on in this thread right now. np- Byrds- Turn, Turn, Turn |

After hearing Candy Shop and every other big hit all those 50 Cent like artists churned out, every day on my school bus last year, not hated him is difficult. |

Which one was it? I like The Moody Blues a lot, with Days of Future Passed being my favorite album. I think it's up there with The Wall and Tommy as far as concept albums go. |

Yep, it was Days of Future Passed. |
All this talk about 50 Cent and no one brought up Q-Unit? You guys are slacking. I'm going on break.
|
All these guys saying 50 Cent has no talent are dumb asses I guess its easy these days to churn out #1 hits? Right, you know since he has talent I'm just going to guess that its easy.
Okay, so I'm sitting here listening to a song called "Nothin' Else" by someone (I do not want to be made fun of) and it has piano playing a beat/sound/whatever I’m trying to say, very close to the sitar in "Paint It, Black" and the vocals during the chorus that sound exactly alike the chorus in “Paint It, Black” with different words. I dunno I just found it odd, probably just coincidence. The only reason I decided to share that is because about half of my posts are irrelevant to CR, oh well. I suppose. |

You do realize people like Milli Vanilli had multiple #1 hits, right? They aren't exactly the epitome of "talent". |

His lyrics are usually pretty stupid, and he's getting #1 hits because that's what the mainstream fans are accustomed to these days. When I think of rappers with real talent, I think of Talib Kweli, Mos Def, guys who actually have a message in their music and write very poetic lyrics to express it. |

Wun too thr33. "I'll take you to the candy shop." Wow, deep metaphor there. Sounds like he's trying to seduce a twelve-year-old. |

Yes, but if 50 is in it for the money/fame rather then the message (Which I'm sure he is.) he is quiet successful, and if Talib, or Mos Def are in it more so for the message so be it, they are also quiet successful. Yes no doubt he isn't the best, but he certainly isn't the worse (Vanilla Ice, anyone?). And do I need to remind you that mainstream fans tend to just buy what sounds good rather then lyrics, flow and overall talent, they are not zombies that just buy anything MTV plays, believe it or not. And Bus are you telling me that you've never gotten "In The Club", or "Hate it or Love it" stuck in your head, or thought "Hey this is a catchy song". |
And Bus are you telling me that you've never gotten "In The Club", or "Hate it or Love it" stuck in your head, or thought "Hey this is a catchy song".
I probably have had "In The Club" stuck in my head before. I've never heard of the second song. |
Why is there a rap conversation in the classic rock thread during my triumphant yet temporary return to MX?
Have you guys discussed this article yet? /random And thanks to JonG for the amazing amount of albums he delivered during the holidays. Also, What happened to entertainmentforums? |
I was never a fan of much new rap. When I did listen to rap, I listened to Dre, NWA, ATCQ, stuff like that.
Now, all they talk about is bitches and hoes, it kind of gets old. They're also ripping beats from other people. I heard that new Gwen Stefani song, and the beat is straight from a Biggie song. I don't think The Who are the same without Keith and John. :\ I discussed concerts with my dad yesterday. He has been to so many. He said he saw The Who about 4-5 times. Not to mention the 25 Dead shows he has been to. I've only been to about 8-9. |
I find a good piece o' pussy, i go up in it
So if you're at a show in the front row I'm a call you a bitch or dirty-ass ho You'll probably get mad like a bitch is supposed to But that shows me, slut, you're composed to Straight Outta NWA's Lyrics. |
That's one group. Everybody today is saying that. It kind of gets old when everybody jumps on the wagon and says it in every song.
|
Also, What happened to entertainmentforums?
It's still around. It's not getting any traffic at all though. About the article: yay |

I cant believe they have the decency to still call themselves the who without the two missing members. But Im still going to the show. Ive seen older bands... |
Even though it'd be nice if John or Keith was still alive, I'm still definitely going if I get the chance.

... You just used my favorite '00 rap song as a example in a negative way :upset:
Well to write big hits you have to be talented they go in hand in hand, whether the talent is to write/sing/market mindless poppy catchy tunes so be it, its still a talent. You will never see an untalented artist become famous or even get signed to a record label. And I'm not disagreeing about lyrics, mainstream rap is pretty dry in the lyrics department, but to say anyone who has had a #1 hit is not talented is crazy. |
