watching x men 1 right now. fuck you guys that said the x men suck. go read some of the classic issues and tell me that. i hate when people act like they can have a legit opinion on comics when they haven't read them and only saw the movies





here is my full rant about the subject i wrote for my blog:

"People who talk about comic books when they have just seen the movie.
I hate people that do this. If you don't know what you're talking about, just don't say any thing. People judge comics by how good or bad the movies are, which is retarded. When you adapt comics they lose a lot.

The worst example of this is TMNT. People think they know all about it because they have seen the cartoon/movies. They think it's all about turtles talking like surfers and eating pizza. Read the source material, jackass. The comic turtles are much darker. They curse, drink, hardly ever talk about pizza, rarely say things like "cowabunga" and even kill people when they have to. Shredder and Krang are the main villains of the show/movies. Krang is not in the comics and Shredder is in a total of less than 10 issues in all four volumes. The turtles fight shredder in the first issue and he dies IN THE FIRST ISSUE. The turtles beat him in combat, he tries to detonate a grenade to kill them, donatello knocks it away and it kills shredder instead. He eventually comes back as a worm clone (don't ask) and is decapitated by Leonardo in three issues. That's right. Shredder is in 4 issues of volume one and the turtles kill him.

Spider-man is another bad one but in a different way. The first two Sam Raimi movies are pretty good, but also insulting in several ways. Why does Mary Jane replace Gwen Stacy? In the comics, peter is in love with gwen at the time and the green goblin knocks her off a bridge. Spider-Man shoots a webline down to grab her and the impact snaps her neck. That's right, peter fucked up and accidentally snaps her neck trying to save her. The woman he loves dies and never comes back. In the movie this never happens. The green goblin is portrayed fairly well other than his costume. That costume is an embarassment, he looks like a power ranger. How hard would it have been to get his costume right? The rest of the movie is pretty good, but the source material is far better.

Then there's Batman. Jesus fucking Christ. The Dark Knight was a pretty good movie, but it's not the definitive Batman story. I haven't read as much DC as Marvel comics, but I've read more than your average viewer ejaculating all over this movie. My main complain is that people have repeatedly said Heath Ledger's Joker was "darker than he had ever been before." What? He has been that dark in the comics since the 80s. Read the Dark Knight Returns (graphic novel). The Joker is dark as hell in that one. He commits suicide and makes Batman feel responsible. In another comic he kills Robin. People just don't know what they're talking about (again.)

The X-men is another good one. How did they manage to make such an exciting premise so boring? You have a movie about people that fire optic blasts, tear people to shreds with adamantium claws, control the elements, and a master of magnetism and then spend the majority of the movie having the characters talk to each other. It's boring.

I haven't read enough Iron Man, Superman, Daredevil or Hellboy to comment on the movies but I assume they're fairly unreliable too. I don't get why people just don't read the comics. The story lines have more time to develop, the writing is generally better and it's usually darker. "

i think the animated series is really good, so is the spiderman one from that era. unfortunately with spidey they wouldn't let any of the characters say "die" "Death" or "kill" and had everyone use laser guns instead or real ones which is p gay but other than that it's great

i liked the reruns i saw of the series, but i didnt live here when they were on on saturday mornings or whatever.

i used to be into comics and such but they got lost in transit somewhere in between moves =/

comics were big in the 90s but in a bad way. too may holographic covers and a bunch of crossovers and bad writing. everyone tried to make characters dark and "edgy" even spider man and other charcters who it was totally innapropriate for

the second clone sage of spidey was awful. can't believe marvel tried to say scarlet spider was the real spider-man and we had been reading about a clone since #150. it got to be such a mess they had to bring norman osborn (the first goblin) back from the dead after 20 years so they could pretend he had been laying low in europe and orchestrated the whole clone shit behind the scenes

mostly batman, thor, a lil green lantern, i used to have the watchmen book but its missing from my library, idk most of the stuff theyre turning into movies

oh yeah and the lego bionicle ones that came with lego mag

i hated superman and didnt like spiderman, i tended to go for the darker stuff like the punisher etc

i only had 4 comics ever and they were all punisher and from different points in the timeline so in one he was in cuba, in one he was in the future, in another he was in some random city, and in the other he was a navy seal.

i had no fucking idea what was going on.
