what's you user name on AIM quinn?

irishg 09-18-2004 12:40 PM
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

o and for u classic rock fans, the crime of the new century was that the Yardbirds new CD, Birdland, recieved no attention at all. that deserved a grammy, or 6.

so are there any other classic rock fans out there, and even if ur not, have u been noticing somewhat of a revival in interest for that sort of music?
The "revival" is great, don't get me wrong, but, there are alot of fakes out there. I saw a kid at school with a Led Zeppelin shirt on. I asked him if he was a fan. He replied "I love that guy." Thats the kind of stuff that pisses me off.

Woodstock 09-18-2004 12:42 PM

I woke up, and yes, Nick Mason is an underatted drummer. Always kept the beat.

RockAndRoll 09-18-2004 12:49 PM

hahah me and my friends would always make fun of people that thought led-zeppelin or pink floyd or whoever was one person.

Lateralias 09-18-2004 01:25 PM
c-rap
, hey thats what i call it! i could of sworn i invented c-rap.....
back to the lab again

MalcolmYoungRock 09-18-2004 02:06 PM

It's funny how they just read the first post and respond to that and they don't bother to read the other 280 posts.

You know we'd all get bored just discussing "Oh yeah, Classic Rock is cool. And it's coming back. Cool."

We switch topics :thumb:

BludgeonySteve 09-18-2004 02:10 PM

280 PAGES you mean :thumb:

Heh, now it's more of a classic rock community thread.

MalcolmYoungRock 09-18-2004 02:33 PM

Basically, yeah.

I don't know my internet forum terminology :upset:

magicbus 09-18-2004 02:40 PM
Anyways, What are some drum parts of Classic rock songs that really stick out in your mind.

Fire, doesn't everybody love this one?
Dazed and Confused, Especially the end of the solo
Aja, the end just amazing
Come together, everybody knows this part
Good lovin, just has a cool beat that goes with the music
Whiteroom, I love the sound of his bassdrum on this I wish I could reproduce it
Magic Bus, Original, the song just isn't the same without it
Mississipi Queen, I love this song, I think it's use of cowbell is overshadowed by BOC
Traintime, the drums and harmonica make this song
I shot the Sheriff, in covers of this song the drums help keep the original feel
Good times bad times, great bass drum use
How many more times, just a really great part

Ah i'll probably add more later but I think this is a good list to start with.
FIRE! I wish I knew how to play that. I just get crazy when I hear it. :D

EDIT: Nick is a good drummer!

magicbus 09-18-2004 02:46 PM
Classic rock never left. I live in a small towm and classic rock/rock is actually more popular than c-rap! its amazing! i am 15 and this is my album collection:
Good list :thumb:

You should get some Yes. Or did I miss them?

thickasabrick 09-18-2004 02:47 PM

i think mitch mitchel is an amazing drummer, i would rather know how to play hendrix experience songs on drums, than on guitar.
neil peart from rush is an awesome drummer too
bonham is my favourite drummer

Broken Arrow 09-18-2004 02:58 PM

I got back from Hockey now i am going CD hunting(is there a chat tonight??)

magicbus 09-18-2004 03:00 PM

I'm just gonna start going in the chat room every so often, to see if anybody's in there. Just an idea.

I really like Mitch Mitchel too. His drumming is so catchy and fast.

BludgeonySteve 09-18-2004 03:02 PM

I'm not sure if there is a chat. If enough people are on we could have an unplanned one. Like earlier today's chat.

magicbus 09-18-2004 03:11 PM

Go in now!

jpj 09-18-2004 03:14 PM

i just watched pink floyd pulse, it was amazingly awesome. nick is definitely very underrated. people always talk about bonham and moon, but you hardly hear anything about him.

Mankind_ 09-18-2004 03:20 PM

My first review!!! :D It's on Van Halen III.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4750658#post4750658

i know, i know, its not that good(the review)

magicbus 09-18-2004 03:21 PM

I love White Room!!! Dude listen to the wah on the second verse! And that sweet ass solo!!

Later, goin to guitar center, might pick up a wah :thumb:

*Excited!

*I'll read the review later, going now. :thumb:

Paranoidd 09-18-2004 03:22 PM

(edit: regarding Nick's drumming)

Because he doesn't hold a candle to them.

I love Pink Floyd, but I've never been particularly impressed with Nicks drumming. (I've seen pulse too).

jpj 09-18-2004 03:23 PM

i know hes not as good as them, but he still doesn't get the credit he deserves. i probably could of worded it better

Mankind_ 09-18-2004 03:25 PM
I don't have the album, but that's a very good review. :)
thanks. it sounds somewhat similiar to VH's Balance in case you have that album

BludgeonySteve 09-18-2004 03:53 PM

lol, well I bookmarked your site. you have some pretty good rants.

themightyquinn23 09-18-2004 04:06 PM

Badmoon did Van Halen, but he foolishly had it deleted because he thought it wasn't good enough.
