what

pate 08-30-2007 08:04 PM

Obituary is the definition of death metal.

Deathcrush 08-30-2007 08:06 PM

So he comes into this thread trying to explaing how Obituary of all bands aren't death metal, after releasing this post in the metalcore thread: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/forums/showpost.php?p=15220754&postcount=3046
hypocritical
And for the record, when old Sepultura isn't being considered "death metal", it's being considered "first wave of black metal".

masscows 08-30-2007 08:54 PM
Not to bring up the past pages but...really thats all you can say?
What is one thing about Obituary that is Death Metal? The only thing that would make it Death is the SHITTY vocals and the tremelo picking...Im talking mainly about Cause of Death since thats what album we were discussing but saying that Obituray is Death Metal and then bring up somebody like Cryptopsy? Its funny how so many of you on these forums are genre whores but at the same time completely hypocritical.

If Obituary is Death Metal than so is (old) Sepultura and (old) Slayer.
OMG! Death metal being similar to thrash metal? that never happened dude!

Obituary (and other such bands) were somewhat of a bridge between Slayer and Cryptopsy (just for example). So what if it's "thrashy"? It shows stylistic evolution from one genre to another. You can't expect super duper ideas to just pop out of thin air.

This dude'll be calling old Deicide and Morbid Angel thrash any minute now...
And for the record, when old Sepultura isn't being considered "death metal", it's being considered "first wave of black metal".
???

Angmar 08-30-2007 08:58 PM

Obituary is death metal, they were early death metal. Just because there is different maybe more 'brutal' DM bands doesn't change the fact that they are DM. Why does it have to have a certain sound?

Deth 08-30-2007 08:58 PM

It's not even very thrashy compared to the undeniable death metal of the first Deicide album or Altars of Madness, for example. I'm just confused.

LifeInABox 08-30-2007 08:59 PM

There was only like one Thrashy song on the s/t Deicide, but AoM did have a thrashy sound.

Morbid Angel- Heaving Earth
Obituary- Circle of Tyrants

pretty big difference in what one would call death metal.

LifeInABox 08-31-2007 12:00 AM

Forget it. Obituary is Death Metal, Morbid Angel is Death Metal.

masterchaos 08-31-2007 12:00 AM

Fine I'll just conform to the rest of you.

masterchaos 08-31-2007 12:05 AM

Well look at that we agree on something after all

LifeInABox 08-31-2007 12:08 AM

Does anyone have an opinion on Mental Funeral or Once Upon The Cross? Or Icons Of Evil?

i am the robots 08-31-2007 12:09 AM

All sound real cheesy.

LifeInABox 08-31-2007 12:11 AM

Autopsy - Mental Funeral
Deicide - Once Upon The Cross
Vital Remains - Icons Of Evil

i am the robots 08-31-2007 12:18 AM

Autopsy's good. Deicide's nah. Vital Remains is alright.

I don't listen to said bands very much, hence my not recognizing the titles.

That would be like me going, LOL WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IF YOUVE NEVER DREAMT OF MURDER, THEN YOUVE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE

LifeInABox 08-31-2007 12:20 AM

Mmmm. Deicide pwns, I just don't know about that album. Autopsy is awesome, and I have yet to expierence Vital Remains.
