Just watched the videos of Roger at Live Earth or whatever it was called. Can't go wrong with the last half of DSOTM. It's kind of interesting to watch Roger sing David's parts, since his voice is so completely different. Especially now that he's pushing 65.
|
Yeah, I'm glad he more or less recovered his voice after the performance he had at Live8. I mean, it really was shocking to hear what was a strong, rich voice come out so wavery.

Before I went to bed last night I listened to Dark Side of the Moon......
and I liked it. |
I never cared for Dark Side of the Moon at all, with the exception of a couple of songs.
I've enjoyed Piper at the Gates of Dawn at times, though. |
i just recently watched roger waters live at berlin
what's everyone's thoughts on it? i thought it was really cool... :-\ |
That's a tough question. What disc of Delicate Sound Of Thunder do you like the best? Or rather, what songs off the album are your favourites?
And for people I know who I'm trying to get into Floyd, I either burn them a sampler with a couple songs from every album, or I just play Ummagumma (the studio disc) and see which songs they like the best. It usually works well.
Ugh, why would you start someone off with Ummagumma? It's probably the least immediately accessible album out of them all. I would think a Floyd n00b would be quickly turned away. |

But I never put songs from Ummagumma on Pink Floyd samplers. Go figure. :p |

I can see someone might prefer the space rock stuff or gravitate towards Dark Side, Meddle etc but there's nothing really on there that resembles the Roger Waters dominated albums. |
Granchester Meadows reminds me of The Wall, actually. Rick's stuff is like earlier Floyd, pre-Meddle, whereas Dave's stuff is sort of classic era.

There are few bands easier to introduce to someone than Pink Floyd
|
3rd page? 3 days with no posts?
I just gave Darkside a listen. What a perfect album. |
I dunno I can think of a lot of bands that would be more easily introduced...
|
The first song I give to people is Shine On or Wish You Were Here, depending on what other music they generally listen to. Or Great Gig In the Sky, that works surprisingly well for me.
|
Funnily enough, the song that my ex liked the most by Floyd was Dogs.
|

How can anyone possibly fail at introducing someone to Pink Floyd? "Hey you've never heard Pink Floyd? Here's Dark Side of the Moon" |
Quite a few people dislike Dark Side Of The Moon though, both here on MX and elsewhere.
|
Then hit them with WYWH the song
if you know they have a real taste in music, which in my experience never occurs when your getting someone into Pink Floyd, go for the obscure stuff but otherwise it's really simple |

When I was younger I hated it, with the exception of money. Then one day about 3 years ago I listened to it and then was blown away. Its probably in my top 10 albums of all time now. |
Same with me, except I first heard it about 3 years a go and hated it. I gave it another go later on because I knew my dad loved it, and I still hated it. Then one day I was at a loss as to finding something to listen to and found Dark Side in my pile of CD's. I dunno what it is but I've been a fan ever since.
|
I never considered Dark Side of The Moon to be my favorite. Animals is just too good for me.
|
Yeah. Dark Side of the Moon is solid all the way through but Animals is just so damn good.
|
My favourite Pink Floyd album changes by the week, I don't know if anyone else here is like that. Last week's favourite was Meddle, and this week's favourite is Piper at the Gates of Dawn.
|
The order by which I'd rank them changes quite a bit each week, I think. I'm not sure what I'd say as my favourite album right now, though.
|
Yeah my favorite varies between Dark Side, WYWH and Animals. Although my favorite song will ALWAYS remain with Shine On.
|
My favorite song is Careful With That Axe, Eugene. I still haven't found a version better than the Ummagumma one.
|
I love Animals.
|
Me too but we're talking about Pink Floyd here dude.
|

Have you heard the studio version of it? |
Yeah, I like Ummagumma's better.
