OK, back to cymbals. Keep in mind, I suck at describing cymbals so bear with me. I'm looking for a China that has a pretty full sound, but still kind of dry, with a decent amount of sustain.

LoneStarDrummer 01-24-2007 09:47 PM

do you want a trashy sound or a traditional sound?

low or high in pitch?

A_Guy 01-24-2007 10:29 PM

Trashy with a low pitch.

LoneStarDrummer 01-24-2007 10:36 PM

try either the 20" or 22" oriental china trash

the large sound will give it a deeper tone, while the cymbal itself is still rather trashy sounding.

get those hats dude thats a steal.

Snarz 01-25-2007 07:21 PM

Is it normal that they have three holes on the bottom hat?Becasue I've seen alot of them doso im guessing yes.

And sound wise any good?

Tim 01-25-2007 07:54 PM

soudn wise they will sound excellent. the holes on the bottom are to prevent airlock and make them quicker.
Im looking for the crash cymbal from the band 'ambry'.
an example would be from their song 'better scene than heard'
ok thanks.
anyone know?

FL3P 01-26-2007 12:53 PM

I listened to the song but there isnt anything special about the sound of that crash. I would suggest going to a music store and finding something that sounds similar or that you like. No need to go on a mission to find that exact crash, it sounds like a million others.

byrkee 01-26-2007 07:38 PM

oh i thought it sounded a lot better than anything i heard.

Little Android Man 01-26-2007 07:45 PM

then you havent heard a lot..

FL3P 01-26-2007 08:07 PM

It sounds good but I dont think its a sound that many cymbals couldnt give you. Im sure if you found the cymbal somewhere and hit it your first thought would be "that doesnt sound like the one on that song".

byrkee 01-27-2007 11:29 AM

ok thanks.

FL3P 01-27-2007 11:30 AM

Do you know what brand he uses?

byrkee 01-27-2007 11:39 AM

well i watched a couple of their live performances, and his cymbals had a big Z on it, so im guessing its zidjilan(spelling?),even though it doesnt have the usual written out label on it.

FL3P 01-27-2007 11:52 AM

Those would be Z Customs then and thats probably not what he used in the studio nor what you would want to use at home or for smaller venues.

byrkee 01-27-2007 04:14 PM

oh.

ant_182 01-31-2007 01:11 AM

You might like the Z Customs. Try them out :) I really didn't want to try the Z crash out. But I did and loved it!

Righty-O, finally saved up some cash, so I'm gonna upgrade my cymbals. After a cursory glance at the available options, my first impression was to go XS20 - The performance set and also the splash/chinese set. I've only played a crash from the set, but it was a nice little thing.

Anyone who has these cymbals, comments?

Now for the reason this is in the cymbal finder thread:

Hats - A bit dry, fast, light
Ride - I don't want much sustain; main things are a cutting, kinda industrial bell sound and a low decay time.
Crash - Short decay, but cutting, and something that sounds good at medium-high volumes.

Any suggestions?

~~

EDIT: I have about £550 available to me, but am looking to put £150 of that towards new snare drum.

herostyle 01-31-2007 01:00 PM

I have the 10" splash. It sounds great for the price. I recommend getting it.

gimp fest 02-01-2007 02:28 PM

hi, i can't decide between these crashes:

16" A custom med and 18" 2002 full
16" full and 17" A custom med.

anyone?

Snarz 02-01-2007 02:47 PM

16" A Custom Medium.

Seafroggys 02-01-2007 03:00 PM
