does anyone know when pink floyd's Animals came out? Was it before Dark Side of the moon or after Wish you Were Here?
1977 if I remember correctly after DSOTM(73) and WYWH(75)

Badmoon 12-27-2005 10:29 AM
Read the book; it's a classic.
Listen to him. And then read The Rum Diary -- funny book.
The title track is such a fun dancing song.
Yea it is. I can see starting a Celtic Rock band. I'm not from Ireland, but I'm 95% Irish...so maybe that's enough for the mainstream not to laugh at me. :p
Did you get it for Christmas?
Not really, but I did get it from a mailing list sent out from the Punk forum on Christmas.
Fairytale of New York, which is clearly the best Christmas song ever written.
Easily. I love that song.

JonG 12-27-2005 11:05 AM

I listened to some Neil Young that I hadn't heard before. Zuma and Tonight's The Night. They were pretty good.

gmoneyguy 12-27-2005 11:40 AM

Have any of you guys heard tools cover of No Quarter?

JonG 12-27-2005 12:03 PM

I think it's better then the original, yes.

The original is blah.

robo2448 12-27-2005 12:37 PM

I don't like Zeppelin or Tool.

The Cream DVD is awesome. I've been watching some of it this morning. I hope they release the MSG shows on DVD too.

I think robert plants vocals are better but other then that I agree with you.

Illmatic 12-27-2005 01:01 PM
This is correct. Third in their series of 4 utterly classic albums (ending with The Wall).
I wouldn't put The Wall and Animals in "utterly classic" category, myself.
I hope they release the MSG shows on DVD too.
Did you go to that show? I remember someone here did.

robo2448 12-27-2005 01:06 PM
Did you go to that show? I remember someone here did.
Yep. I thought the MSG show was a little too. Jack Bruce in particular seemed a lot stronger at MSG. More powerful singing and bass playing. Plus Clapton used the wah on Tales of Brave Ulysses and White Room.

For some reason Outside Woman Blues is skipping around for me. This isn't good, as soon as I open it, the DVD starts skipping by the 3rd song.

Edit- Yay the skipping is gone. That was wierd.

You crazy.
Yea, but that's coming from the guy who worships Motley Crue.

I really want to read the book....
Is that Mingus in your avatar?
Have any of you guys heard tools cover of No Quarter?
Yea, I liked it better than the original, but I don't think either are anything special.

i was so disappointed when he didnt use the wah in the white room solo. it was ridiculous.

and i would say animals is classic. i love it.

I agree with Ray on this one.
Have any of you guys heard tools cover of No Quarter?
I really like the Tool cover. The song seems like it should be one played really loud and heavy like that.

You know, if I wasn't really, really lazy, I could probably learn "The Wind Cries Mary."

JonG 12-27-2005 01:56 PM

If I wasn't lazy I would do a lot of things.

Maynard needs to stop covering songs, he butchered Imagine and No Quarter is just as shatty. But I'm a negative Nancy when it comes to cover's of old songs.

What I got for Birthday/Christmas:
Guitar
265 Dollars

I went to Washington for Christmas so I still have all the presents from my mom’s side of family to do latter today. I'm excited, and if I don't get Reservoir Dogs someone is going to die.

jpj 12-27-2005 03:30 PM

Reservoir Dogs is great. Tarantino's best I think.

magicbus 12-27-2005 03:45 PM

I like Pulp Fiction better, because IMO Reservoir Dogs drags on a little bit when it goes into Mr. Orange's past, but I love both of them anyways.

I had a dream that I was getting into the Allman Bros.

Someweirdsin 12-27-2005 03:57 PM

haha. dreams can sometimes come true? eh?

i prefer pulp fiction because the dialogue is better and, quite frankly, it's more interesting. both are good though. pulp fiction is also my dads favorite movie.

Jacaranda 12-27-2005 04:01 PM

But the Stuck In the Middle With You/Torture scene is sooo good. I love that part.

On the drive over I listened to DSOTM and I concur after the 8-10th time listening to it, I still hate it. So to easy the pain I listened to Animals and WYWH the rest of the way.

We'll see :p

I love the dialogue in Pulp Fiction. Some of the scenes are so hilarious ("Say what again" and "I just short Marvin in the face" come to mind)

ENGLISH MOTHERFUCKER, DO YOU SPEAK IT?

I watched "Blow" again last night. That's a good movie.

:)

thickasabrick 12-27-2005 04:50 PM

Animals is probably my least favourite Pink Floyd album...it's not an overly bad album, but it definitely isn't high on my list.

I think Blow is an amazing movie. Reservoir Dogs is a great movie. Pulp Fiction isn't quite as good as Reservoir Dogs...Oh and I listened to Desire twice yesterday (once on vinyl, once on computer), and for some reason I think I want to listen to it again! Do any of you ever read the stuff Dylan (or other writers) write on Dylans albums? It's awesome stuff! I suppose on the CD they just put it in the liner thingy...it's cooler when it's right on the album cover. I'm just rambling now. I've been high for like five days straight now.

I got a 30$ best buy GC I might have to pick that movie up and get ripped and watch it. Then go operate some power tools.

Start posting more often. Why the name change?

I just got the new John Mayer album, it's pretty good, although not quite CR related. I also got Mystery White Boy by Jeff Buckley, so I'm gonna listen to that after this ends.

The record stores here in Georgia pwn California's. I walk in one record store and it smells like pot. Great selection, and pretty cheap.

I like the new layout. I'm probably gonna be using it.

Glitterati 12-27-2005 06:20 PM

Blow is pretty good. Nothing amazing, but good.

I plan on seeing Reservoir Dogs soon, I just need to borrow it off my friend.

Badmoon 12-27-2005 06:55 PM

Compared to the book, I'd say Blow isn't that good at all. The book is great.

And Reservoir Dogs is a masterpiece; one of my favorite films.

Yeah, I'm really excited about seeing it to see if the ear scene is as bad as I hear it is :p

I lost my old password so I made a new account for the time being. I tried to get my old one sent but I couldn't get the email due to the spam settings on my browser. I got it now, but i'm already logged in with this so whatever. I'll start posting more. I've just gotten into other stuff besides classic rock and don't have a lot to contribute at this point.

I got the new Mayer album too. He is a great blues player. It was gutsy of him to take another direction in his music in this point in his career. It's good, although I liked his pop stuff too.

Glitterati 12-27-2005 07:11 PM

John Mayer is really talented, so I like the fact that he's doing slightly less poppy stuff. Though I do kinda like the song Daughters >.> <.<

MBS 12-27-2005 07:19 PM
Though I do kinda like the song Daughters >.> <.<
Nothing to be ashamed of, I like that song too.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-27-2005 07:19 PM

Blow: Meh
Reservoir Dogs: Great
Pulp Fiction: The most genius movie of all time!
The Big Lebowski: Overrated as hell (by all of you!) still a funny movie though

Birth of the Cool is turning out to be one of my records by him. I've never heard a Miles Davis song I haven't liked. :amaze:
