Today I did my usual routine;

Enthusiastically start recording a song, full of creativity and vigor.

Niggle on not having the bass sound right, or owning a drum kit.

Record 30 bars.

Give up, leaving yet another 1.33 minute track titled 'new song' on my hard drive never to be revisited.

How're ya'll today?
I get that all the time - this last year though I've sorta trained myself to be more persistent with writing tunes. I havn't really learned anything new musically in the past 3 or so years but realising that persistence was limiting me more than my ideas was a big step.

Tell you what, though, I've sorta made a personal realisation from going to loads of gigs recently of some of my favourite bands - really, most metal and prog is seriously goddamn simple. And most music is repetative and annoying, if focused on too hard.

Not that I wasn't aware of that before, I just sorta didn't think of applying it to my problems with recording songs - really, any old crap will seem to do and people will impart their own feelings and whatever onto it when it's all fresh and new to them. However boring and repetative it gets to the composer. So basically, my best approach to composition now is to just stop thinking at every turn whether or not something is good or not.

Would launch into a better formulated argument here but I just seriously can't be arsed :P

I play Esp Exclipse-II and ESP Xtone PC-2V

Nice, I wish there were more ESP's around lefty that I could try out. Until then I'll stick with Ibanez.

being left handed and playing a right handed ESP is still better than playing any Ibanez

Bruce E Kinesis 08-19-2010 03:37 PM

come on man ibanez make some beautiful semihollows and those GAXs are decent doublecuts

it's the RGs that have the "play fast play boring" necks
You realized it, yet continue to fail. Playing guitar isn't the most important thing in my world either, but neither is wallowing in my lack of creativity/effort. Perhaps you should actually apply yourself instead of pretending that you've got "too much other stuff going on". It'd probably feel great to actually complete a song
Sheesh, you're a bit abbrasive.

All I'm saying is that I play guitar because it is fun, and occassionaly record a bit.

Why all the criticism?

Squirrel 08-20-2010 03:27 AM

Quick, press circle to use Jesus.

I just landed my old job back, start Monday. Cool I guess.

Blue_Moon 08-20-2010 06:04 AM

i was in my first proper car crash today

overated, but my neck doesn't think so, fantastic day none the less :(

AG 08-20-2010 07:25 AM

What happened?

Blue_Moon 08-20-2010 07:39 AM

On a 3 lane road, on a motorway might i add... i was in the far left, one car from the middle lane came into my lane rather late started slowing down, so i slowed down, then he really slowed down so i had to jam on the brakes... stoped inches away from his car, truck behind smahsed into me

the car in front, turns out he was trying to go into a petrol station at the very very last minute, the station was in the hard shoulder lane to my left just off the motor way (which had traffic in it too) so he basicly came to a stop in the road after jumping into the lane way to late for this...

it was 3 italian folk in a rental car who spoke no english, was great fun :( ...truck driver guy behind me was ok about it, rang me there asking to sort it out without insurances, gotta get a quote and go back to him

+ i missed the interview i rearanged for that day afte ri made a balls of previous phone interview

+ the folks jeep got stolen on monday here which ive been driving lately since my car needs a new battery and sometimes is dodge

what a crappy week

Squirrel 08-20-2010 07:45 AM

Man you're getting ****ing pwned.

Squirrel 08-20-2010 08:30 AM

With guitar rig 3 can i plug my guitar straight into my computer or do i need stuff inbetween?

I have the adapter obviously but is it that simple?

I have zero experience with recording.

The_Mop 08-20-2010 11:17 AM

Not really that simple...

To make sure there's no latency you'll have to mess with the buffer settings of the soundcard (if you can - if not, try ASIO4ALL). Usually guitar rig works best if you have some sort of pre-amp to bring volumes up, or so I've heard.

In my experience though, I've never managed to get it to sound even partly decent....

Oh also if you're intending to record with it you'll need to sort out a VST host like Cubase or whatever.

Bruce E Kinesis 08-20-2010 02:47 PM

I've had it sounding ****ing fantastic with an external sound card. it can sound 'good enough' if you use your GNX1 to bring it up to line level and then use your computer's line in but set up and install 'Asio4All'

What's the damage to your car?

Crapdragoon 08-20-2010 05:44 PM

Some dude wants to sell me a early 70s (or maybe late 60's?) yamaha acoustic for 100 bucks.

The action is really nice , and the tone is really mellow but its not that loud, thats alright though.

Blue_Moon 08-20-2010 07:06 PM

thar she is, of course i took a digit or 2 out of the reg, cause thats what all the cool kids do

what a mess... The insurance folk sent an assessor fellow over today, nice guy, checked it out and loked at it, said it's probably about 2k to repair, didn't think it was that bad myself, but its his job i guess, so it's a write off anyways

the dude who hit me, i take it he works for a transport/delivery place was sorting it out with his boss and rang me said wana meet up or whatever or get a quote from a repair place/mechanic to avoid making a claim on his insurance, i don't really care once it gets sorted, no friggin car, its annoying as fck

first crash in about 3 years of driving not sure what the jazz is

it appears the wiper is lorry proof

It could be worse man. You could be dead and I'm actually surprised that your car was written off, was the front smashed up as well? Did he tell you exactly what was damaged?

Junooni 08-21-2010 05:43 AM

after hydroplaning into a tree and rollover + slide upside down 60' down a mountain

i walked out with a seatbelt burn on my neck and my strat on my back. hand to come out of the trunk cause the car was upside down in the mud.

Junooni 08-21-2010 05:47 AM

i miss the jeep

unfortunately, i never got a chance to take any pictures of the car upside down, was in a bit of a hurry to get out cause there was a burning smell.. fire dept came down and put it out while i was getting checked out in the ambulance

craziest part was the back half of the car was fine, at least on the outside

AG 08-21-2010 06:49 AM

Crazy.

What's everyone's dream car? If money was no object, no worrying about running costs etc...

Mine would be something along these lines:

Soooo HOT.

Bruce E Kinesis 08-21-2010 06:59 AM

juno: if you were driving a sensible car instead of a faux by four you probably wouldn't have rolled ;)

Blue_Moon 08-21-2010 07:31 AM

suv's and their gentle corner rolling, you win the car crash damage!

yeah the front had another dent in it too, the cars prob woth about jus under 1000 less even so damage is about double it, pretty old car, but what i think jacked up the damage was that the pillar/corners connecteing the roof to the car were damaged at the back so that added a fair bit, couple of hundred to replace the back window even, its crazy for repairs, just wana get it over with and so it works out i can get a reasonable replacement in the end and no messing about with nonsence claims n shizzle

if i could pick a reasonable drivable type cool car i could get id get a rx8

or in a perfect world a viper

but if i get a replacement for the car ill prob end up with one of these

insurance, motor tax and nct costs are crazy here, its unbeleivable expensive to drive for males under 25 here

EmbraceRandom 08-21-2010 10:48 AM

Compo? I got in a pretty bad smash (guy was on his phone, hence why I shout profanities/get srs road rage at people who I see on phones whilst driving) a couple of years ago but felt pretty sweet when my claim came through ;)
