jrowa001 02-14-2008 08:46 AM

pate 02-14-2008 08:47 AM

NP: Warning

publicastration 02-14-2008 09:20 AM

I'm listening to The Foreshadowing thoroughly now and wow it is fantastic.

I had liked them before but hadn't listened in depth. :p

the2stranger 02-14-2008 10:08 AM

I'm listening to them right now.
Not bad.

They really remind me of a doom metal styled Riverside, especially the vocals, but also the compositions.

jrowa001 02-14-2008 11:39 AM

yeah they do show some Riverside, but also some Katatonia. which imo is a damn good mix

so far i cant decide which is my fav song but Ladykiller is near the top

rattlehead42147 02-14-2008 11:50 AM

I sort of went on a downloading spree a few days ago and discovered a few really good doom, death/doom bands. Last night I listened to the first hour of Esoteric's The Pernicious Enigma, I'm not really sure what to think of it yet. Definitely needs more than one spin to take in.
NP: Warning
Are they any good? (I'm assuming you're talking about the band) I almost got Watching From a Distance the other day but I didn't want to get carried away downloading.

the2stranger 02-14-2008 11:52 AM

Esoteric. \m/
Hell yeah.
Great band, they indeed need a few spins to click.
Psychedelic funeral doom ftw.

I'm so looking forward to the new album, which will be a double album, coming out during spring or summer. :D

np: Nadja - Breakpoint

Yeah, a good mix indeed.
Nice keys too.

rattlehead42147 02-14-2008 11:54 AM

Yeah, with the Pernicious Enigma being 2 hours long I decided to only take on the first hour/disc. I'll have to listen to the rest tonight. Good stuff as far as my initial impression, I just wish they would have mastered it a little better, ie buried vocals/guitar.

the2stranger 02-14-2008 11:57 AM

Well, that's sort of the point to make it sound so buried.
Get Subconcious Dissolution Into The Continuum, if you want a bit more clear production.

rattlehead42147 02-14-2008 12:00 PM

I know, but i tend to get a bit carried away as a guitar player trying to pick out the riffs in songs. The vocals being buried only bothered me a little.

Yes, very good.

Nostalgia 02-14-2008 12:07 PM

At Giza has to be one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Jondur: Yeah, that song has fantastic lyrics, as does the whole album.
Are they any good? (I'm assuming you're talking about the band) I almost got Watching From a Distance the other day but I didn't want to get carried away downloading.
Yeah, it's an absolute essential.

Angmar 02-14-2008 01:52 PM

Watching From a Distance is extremely good, Rattle you can hear one of their songs (the best one) on their sputnik page.

publicastration 02-14-2008 02:13 PM

Esoteric are my favorite FD band. I love love love Subconscious Dissolution Into The Continuum. Everything from the name to the production to the atmosphere is breathtaking.

Dies Irae 02-14-2008 02:13 PM

esoteric are a snooze

Kage 02-14-2008 02:14 PM

Breathtaking, eh?

publicastration 02-14-2008 02:14 PM

It's the sonic equivalent of a Lynch film.

the2stranger 02-14-2008 02:16 PM

Not breathtaking, but awesome; yeah.

The artwork of the new album looks sweet.
I wonder how the album will sound like 100 minutes of new material.
Plus two new band members.
They always take ages to make a new album, but then it's good.

Nostalgia 02-14-2008 08:00 PM

Whoever told me to get Pilgrimage instead of Conference of the Birds sucks really bad.

Dies Irae 02-14-2008 08:05 PM

that was probably me

gmoneyguy 02-14-2008 08:14 PM
Whoever told me to get Pilgrimage instead of Conference of the Birds sucks really bad.
You should get everything tbh.

NemesisDivina 02-14-2008 08:17 PM
Whoever told me to get Pilgrimage instead of Conference of the Birds sucks really bad.
Conference is Om's best by quite a bit. Pilgrimage is second though. Something tells me that you would like Variations On A Theme quite a bit.

Dies Irae 02-14-2008 08:17 PM

variations is boring

rattlehead42147 02-14-2008 08:20 PM
Watching From a Distance is extremely good, Rattle you can hear one of their songs (the best one) on their sputnik page.
NemesisDivina 02-14-2008 08:21 PM
variations is boring
Yeah, it's their worst. I wouldn't exactly call it boring, but it's the least climactic, in my opinion. I just think Austin might like it because it's the most raw recording that they've done.

Dies Irae 02-14-2008 08:21 PM

angmar did you add that song

C.O.A. 02-15-2008 01:14 AM

Warning is really good stuff. Thanks to whoever brought them up in here a while ago.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-15-2008 01:34 AM

probably that Austin faggot

C.O.A. 02-15-2008 01:36 AM

okay then.

great thanks to that "Austin faggot"!

Jondur 02-15-2008 03:45 AM
probably that Austin large bundle of sticks
Wasn't :p
Warning - stole the show at doom shall rise, absolutely crushing!
C.O.A. 02-15-2008 03:49 AM

So if I really like Warning i might also like _______________.

Fill in the blank please Jondur. I hear that you have exceptional taste in metal.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-15-2008 03:53 AM

Solstice

Jondur 02-15-2008 03:54 AM
So if I really like Warning i might also like _______________.
Orodruin - not so much the emotional lyrics etc but the riffs are all there
Revelation - Yet so Far or Frozen Masque - Dennis Cornelius brings the pain and then sings about it.
Dwell Within - see above. Download the demo at: http://www.againstnature.us/BH/Artists/Dwell_Within/DwellWithin.htm

C.O.A. 02-15-2008 03:56 AM

thank you dude!

ApocRaids - I think I have listened to Solstice before and I think I liked it a lot but I never d/l any of their albums. I will now.

is this the odoruin you are talking about? http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3966

Evoke 02-15-2008 05:58 AM
The new Virgin Black is pretty cool, it's basically a My Dying Bride -esque death/doom album with a funeral doom edge.

I also got this band called The Foreshadowing, they're pretty good.

My computer is basically dead so I haven't been able to really look for any new music. Next week I'm ordering parts and building a nice high end PC though.
Pretty tight songs judging from their myspace.
I gonna check out more of their stuff.

Solstice are ace. Sound bugger all like Warning though (even though Warning singer Pat is Solstice guitarist Rich's cousin). First album is Solitude Aeturnus style epic doom. New Dark Age is just fantastic doom/NWOBHM mix.
is this the odoruin you are talking about? http://metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3966
that's the one! Epicurian Mass is the one to look for. Although their side of the Reverend Bizarre split is also extremely ace.

pate 02-15-2008 07:50 AM

Jondur you into Pale Divine?

Jondur 02-15-2008 09:56 AM

Of course! Great band.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-15-2008 10:12 AM
Sound bugger all like Warning though (even though Warning singer Pat is Solstice guitarist Rich's cousin)
Damn, I couldn't remember if they sounded similar or not. New Dark Age is great though.

Finally got around to checking out Om and it's pretty damn good. I'm liking it more than I thought I would.
