I can't believe how good the new Sigur Rós record is.
I've also been digging Sonic Youth very heavily in recent days, but who hasn't been around here? |
Prefuse 73
The Cramps (again) Aus Rotten |
The Cramps rule. Every time I listen to Songs the Lord Taught Us I need another exorcism.
|
The Doors - Waiting for the Sun
Lightning Bolt - Rise of Cities I Would Set Myself On Fire For You - S/T |
I finally got a hold of Devin Davis - Lonely People of the World, Unite! today, and it is most excellent.

About half an hour ago I went for a walk and listened to Pharoah Sanders' Karma album. It's got a certain uplifting quality about it, which is really nice for night-time walking. The first tune on the album is over a half an hour, and it barely goes anywhere. By that I mean it hardly strays from quickly established themes. What's remarkable about it in this way is that it's both trance-inducing and engaging. The way it moves is just really nice, and when it elevates to sax-honking free jazz pandemonium near the 20 minute mark, the players, and the Pharoah in particular, make ugly sounds feel so perfectly consonant and passionately beautiful. They had me dancing in the street when they sunk back into the Coltrane-quoted ostinato pattern with about five minutes remaining. The album was a very welcome addition to my evening.

Kings of Leon have a wicked sound, the singers voice is an acquired taste though
also just discovered television, took my time but boy was it worth the wait. |
Going to see them Thursday.
Hope they play lots of El Cielo.
So would I. El Cielo totally owns Catch Without Arms easily. |

Sorry mate, no dice. I'm sorry to say that you missed out on one hell of a show. They played 3 songs off ( ) (4, 1 and 8), they also played a lot of new songs, I think. I haven't heard their first two albums, so it's hard to say. They finished the set with "Untitled 8" and it was fucking amazing.
Righty. I don't mind missing them, as long as they come back when I'm 18. Today I've been listening to Black Mountain. |

How so? It's a pretty solid album. Not great, but not bad, either. This morning I'm finally giving Takk a listen. It's alright, but I think I'll need to fully wake up before I judge it. |
Last night I really enjoyed the Heavy Vegetable album (Frisbie) that DogIntheSand uploaded for me.
This morning I'm digging some Lee "Scratch" Perry Super Ape tunes. |
Iron & Wine
|
I've loaded up my mp3 player with Hot Snakes, Talking Heads, Black Mountain and Spastic Ink. Should be a good day.
How so? It's a pretty solid album. Not great, but not bad, either.
It's Plastic Soul With the White Apes. it's not a split or collab with a band called The White Apes. |
 oh Jesus. The album cover says "Plastic Soul" with the White Apes so I always assumed it was a collaboration. Thanks for the correction.
|
Oh and btw, it's an awesome album.
|
Agreed.
|
Tangy, did you hear the leak of the Iron & Wine/Calexico record? It's like our avatars getting it on. Or at least, if your avatar was back to normal it is.
|
Nah havn't heard it. I believe I've got a copy on pre-order or something at my local. I love Calexico.
Dig: Goodshirt Buzzcocks Curs ov Dialect The Drones The Make-up |
You're gonna love it. When it officially comes out, we should mash up our avatars and both use them.
|
Oh yeah, the thread.
I'm reeeeeally digging Heavy Vegetable's Frisbie. Thank you, GodInTheSand. |
Haha, I love that album, glad to share it.
|
Did you get the Mark Sandman stuff, Dog?
|
The girl I know who got me interested in Heavy Vegetable also likes Thingy. But I haven't actually heard them or Pinback.
|
is Heavy Vegetable similar to Pinback or Thingy?
I don't know Thingy, but it's WAAAY more interesting than Pinback, though it sort of is in a similar vein sometimes. It's like... what's it like... It's like Stars on a prog bender. |
They're similar to Thingy, but I like HV a little more. I haven't heard any Pinback material though. I'll look into them.
Did you get the Mark Sandman stuff, Dog?
Yep, I just dl'd both discs, and pretty excited about it. Thanks for it. |
It's like They Might Be Giants meets Don Caballero.
|
It's in YSI.
