almost got the melody nailed for a song i was working on

http://soundcloud.com/alanmckenna/melody-001

not sure if its to be wah-ed or not to be wah-ed

Left Face Down 04-26-2010 03:38 PM

As a usual anti-wah protester I don't mind the wah... actually kind of like it.

purple_hazer 04-26-2010 04:53 PM

i gotta say im not too much a fan of wah being around for more than 2 bars

and it holds true in this. sick sound note wise, but idk, i just cant seem to understand the reason for applying wah to somethin. used to love it, but maybe i just burnt myself out with it.

plus, wah seems to remind me about the sounds from satch i truly give less than no fuck about

EDIT: even artistically it kind of feels like people use it to massage their own meta-cock and bust an insulting load in the audiences unsuspecting hair

no offense to you al, love your **** to death, just not a big fan of wah

Blue_Moon 04-26-2010 05:08 PM

im 50/50 on it, can swing either way... its also sweeping throught the frequencies and getting f'd in the mix, i might not do it but maybe leave it for the first lil phrase end with a lil dive bomb and bring the wah in for the new lil phrase, or do the melodies intertwining with 2 different takes one with and without wah, could end interestingly

i havnt used wah in a song in yonks, i had no wah for about 2 years there

That's a double negative.. Josh would disapprove

I welcome Josh's disapproval seeing I've been (and one day I'll learn not to even try) dealing with the morons in PNWI tonight.

JoshIsNumber3 04-26-2010 11:34 PM

How can you call anyone else a moron is beyond me.

Record one without wah, for comparison, then pick whichever one sounds best.

AG 04-27-2010 05:02 AM

Ung. 3k words to go.
Top Gear and the F1 are the only things I bother to watch on TV any more, well that and The Pacific, which I've got on Sky+ but haven't got around to watching yet, is it as good as Band of Brothers?
Im enjoying it so far. Its slow to begin with, more of a charecter driven drama with a few battles shown (there is one episode set entirely in Melbourne). It kicks off at about episode 5 though with some incredible battle scenes.
I just find it funny he's been posting the same music over and over for YEARS on here, for free.

now you're sat in your room eager to get your hands on a poopty version of a bunch of songs you've been hearing for years.
Again, like supporting bands, don't see why that's such a bad thing. I could just torrent it or whatever, but I'd like to see them do well, so I'm buying it. Also, if they do really well, I can always sell it for a nice profit later.

Sup lod. I just installed linux on my laptop and I want to use it to stream music and possibly movies to my other PCs over my wireless so I can free up some HD space on my desktop. Anyone know the best way to go about it?

JoshIsNumber3 04-27-2010 02:38 PM

Probably want to get rid of linux and install something that's actually useful outside of nerding out to other computer nerds

I'm running ubuntu studio with 9.10, and I use Samba when I need to stream stuff from a windows computer

What distro did you use?

Does that work the other way around too? My goal is to stream from linux to windows.

JCBitB 04-27-2010 02:51 PM

Yup

Modern Iconoclast 04-27-2010 02:55 PM

Sweet I'll check it out.

JCBitB 04-27-2010 03:07 PM

Have you noticed any increase in download speed? I sure did... Windows seems to get it's grubby little hands into everything. With Ubuntu all I had to do was forward the ports, and I get over a mb a second fairly consistently now. With all ports forwarded and firewalls and AV completely disabled/uninstalled, I was lucky to get 800kb/sec with Vista.

Left Face Down 04-27-2010 03:12 PM

Sup Lod? Putting my DiMarzio Air Norton/Tone Zone in my RG1570 so tomorrow when my DiMarzio Area '58/Area '67 pickups arrive I can put them and my DiMarzio Super Distortion in my GRX40.

Cut the green wire on accident when trying to extend it. Out of all 5 of the wires to accidentally cut into, had to be that one. Really wish they'd use 22 gauge wire on Pickups. Think they use 24, and it is just a hint annoyingly small and too easy to break.

I haven't downloaded much yet, it does seem a little faster but it might just be the the servers I've downloaded from. I'm on my school's internet right now and it's generally pretty crappy all around.

Blue_Moon 04-27-2010 04:32 PM

wah is in

http://soundcloud.com/alanmckenna/song-chorus chorus is also done... awsome-o, gota write a few more bars for a solo and shud be all good to go

Modern Iconoclast 04-28-2010 01:32 PM

So I found out today that my chem lab partner's sister is the keyboard player for Winds of Plague. Strange considering this girl is about as non-metal as they come.

Left Face Down 04-28-2010 01:41 PM

//Googles Winds of Plauge

Her sister is hot, little too many tattoos for me. Does she look like her sister but with about 5% or less of the tattoos that her sister has?

Modern Iconoclast 04-28-2010 01:54 PM

Yeah they're both hot. My lab partner is blonde and has no tattoos.

Kuffuffled 04-28-2010 02:12 PM

Ah I checked out this band before and definitely noted her. A little too corny for my liking though

Left Face Down 04-28-2010 08:02 PM

Any one have any input on Compression/Sustain pedals? I figured this was a good option for my first pedal and because when I play cleans I hate how the note dies off so quickly. Preferably true-bypass.

The EHX White Finger kind of seems the way to go from what I see. MXR Custom Comp seems to be #2 and for $20 more I'd rather get the versatility of the White Finger and a wall wart with the pedal instead of extra; as the MXR pedal doesn't come with one.

AG 04-29-2010 01:18 AM

I need to write 1500 words today. :(

cgecko1219 04-29-2010 04:43 AM

sup lod. it's been a while.
term papers amirite?

The reason you're not getting the sustain you want is probably just because the guitar isn't giving it; I assume it's a light, alder or something guitar with not much mass to it? You probably won't find that much improvement.

What amp are you using? Sometimes the light compression of a nice valve amp is enough.
