Vaught!?!?!?
Thanks to whoever brought up Gridlink, amazing album and it's nice to hear Chang's screams again. |
LULZ Chang's on his rag -One of the things I've consistently heard about the GridLink LP is that it's $13 for 11 minutes of music and it should cost what a 7" ep costs. I am not even going to get into how white trash Walmart made in China that sounds to me...oh wait. I am going to get into it.
This is quite simple. We spent a lot of time and money to get the music/artwork/packaging just the way we wanted it. It was a labor of love, blood and intense devotion over the course of about 3 years with almost a dozen people(musicians, artists and technicians) contributing their time and efforts to the project. (Honestly HD is the same, but more on that another time). The work stands as a complete body and we consider it a full length release. Most bands have filler songs on their records, but not us. Every song on that record is the result of intense scrutiny and editing. When we started there were almost 20 songs. We threw half in the garbage because we only wanted the best material on the record and refused to accept what we considered only a "decent song". It also does not come in some poopty generic packaging that looks like every other metal/grind record you have ever seen. It is not loaded with label names and sponsor companies. It is not the over produced garbage that seems to be the norm these days recorded on pro-tools by someone who thinks you need a week to get your ****ing sounds down. If your standards for a good investment of $13 is 25+ minutes of music for your money, go somewhere else. Oh and ****ing kill yourself too you pathetic ****. Maybe you can buy some clothing with lead in it made by people who get less than a $1 a day in a place where the government is totally hostile to democratic process. In short, **** you. This is our art. Take or leave it. Oh, and **** you again :-P |
took 3 years to record 11 minutes of boring music and put together horrible cd art
|
Choir,
I don't see this is a case of elitism. This is a case of personal frustration over people listening to our music and their main critique is that of price. Considering we are not making money off these records, I find that offensive in extreme. It costs a lot of money to make records and we need to at least break even on that or we can't match the same quality bar in the next release. Personally, I don't price shop. I buy from people I like. ****, I even pay more for gas at the local self owned gas station versus $.10 cheaper a gallon prices down the road at Shell. I paid $16 for the new AC/DC as an import rather than give Walmart my $ and save $8. When I purchased the Blood the Last Vampire DVD and it is "only" 40 minutes long, I was not in the slightest bit upset. It was an awesome 40 minutes. Every moment was considered and well executed! Reign in Blood is the shortest Slayer LP and yet I have purchased it like 5 times now (vinyl, tape x2, CD, CD re-master). At the time it was around half the length of a conventional record. I recall people griping about the length of that as well. At the end of the day, if you love something and it speaks to you, you should be willing to support the people who make it. The same thing can be applied to books. Shadow of the Scorpion by Neal Asher, almost a novella by todays standards, sells for $18 a copy. I read it in under 3 hours. It ruled. On the other hand, Neal Stephenson's new book costs around $25 at the MSRP. It is almost 1000 pages and it is (in my opinion) painful to read. Amber Gray is 11 minutes and I forget how many seconds. I think it's worth the $14 ^_^ Re. Piracy...This is a tough one. I appreciate you purchasing the CD/MP3s (whatever ^o^), but working in the software/music industry for almost 15 years now, I've seen enough data to know that people are always going to steal rather than buy if it is easy enough for them to do so. In fact, when you make software you have to plan your pricing around the notion that over 50% of your material will be stolen. It's put many smart/creative people I know out of work. DA took the stance of, if you want to steal it, go ahead. We even had an open policy of feel free to make shirts/trade CDRs/etc. but don't profit from them, especially in countries where money was tough to come by. Most people bought our stuff for all the art we packed into every release. In the 7 years since we broke up, DA has had tons of bootleg merch produced and sold for profit to fans every since. Some of it even was labeled official goods, which is especially vexing because we spend more on our shirts to insure they are made in the USA from organic products, etc. In the case of bootlegs, this was not the case. Most bands make their money touring. We cannot, because we all have jobs that support our families so touring is a rare event. We get **** about that too, but to get back on topic, there's nothing we can do about people stealing our music, I do take issue with people trying to justify it saying it's the cost. I'm sure they could skip a issue or two of Tiger Beat to buy the record and for those who want to save a few $ there's always iTunes. Then they only have to skip one issue :-P |
Dude needs to quit ****ing whining.

sounds like someone needs to get laid
