I like the Echoes: A Space Odyssey one better.

Danger Bird 07-16-2007 04:37 PM

That one's mine :D

I also put 2001: A Space Odyssey with Ummagumma up.

Anyways, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a better movie than The Wizard Of Oz

This is true.

Question: In the end of Wish You Were (the song) is it David Gilmour singing da da dos and what not or is he actually playing that part on the guitar? (It starts at 4:05 of the song)

rippa32 07-18-2007 07:58 AM

Both actually.

Leper 07-18-2007 12:07 PM

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's both too.

rippa32 07-18-2007 07:06 PM

If you watch him play it on Live 8 you can see it's both, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11UUVzlI6hI. You can watch it there.

MattSharpIsCool 07-18-2007 07:13 PM

He always does that. He does it on a few songs on the Pulse video, too.

I just found this. Some of you guys have probably heard it already, but I thought it was really cool. The Flaming Lips cover "Lucifer Sam"

http://www.savefile.com/files/877697

Leper 07-18-2007 10:11 PM

I hate the Flaming Lips so I'll just assume it sucks and not check it out.

Jacaranda 07-18-2007 10:21 PM

Why do you hate the Flaming Lips?

Leper 07-18-2007 10:33 PM

I just don't like any of their songs. Don't like their style I guess.

Edit: Not any of the ones I've heard anyway.

MattSharpIsCool 07-18-2007 11:54 PM

I thoroughly enjoy me some Flaming Lips.

whiskey 07-18-2007 11:56 PM

Money!

Get away!

Apocalyptic Raids 07-19-2007 01:03 AM

The Flamings Lips are oh so excellent.

what exactly have you heard? i by no means enjoy them a bunch but i do think they have their moments.

whiskey 07-19-2007 01:22 AM

awesome band

Riva 07-23-2007 08:35 PM

That wasn't a bad cover, by any means.

I've been puzzling out the meaning of Poles Apart, lately. I think it's about Roger , but I'm also sometimes tempted to just call it another song about Syd.

MattSharpIsCool 07-23-2007 09:46 PM

Considering the time it was written, I'd venture a guess it's probably about Roger, being pretty much at the height of his and David's feud.

Riva 07-23-2007 11:10 PM

Yep, that's what I thought to.

rippa32 07-24-2007 03:21 AM

Hey guys, I havn't posted here in ages. I found out something interesting though, a friend of mine hates Pink Floyd but just recently he bought Piper At The Gates of Dawn and absolutely loved it. I know the Barret stuff is different to the other floyd stuff but I found that interesting.

MrConeman 07-24-2007 04:43 AM

Depends which Floyd he heard first really. If you ask me Pink Floyd were 3 different bands. Four if you wanna get technical.

1. The Syd led 60's psych-pop stuff.
2. The full band collaborative years.
3. Roger gradually taking more and more control, leading through to The Final Cut, and his departure
4. The Dave Gilmour led era.

I think anyone who didn't know the band, and listened to one then any other of these eras may well get confused that it's actually the same band. Floyd evolved alot.

Apocalyptic Raids 07-24-2007 04:55 AM

I think soundwise the 2nd and 3rd ones you mention there are fairly similar, but yeah, you've got a point.

rippa32 07-24-2007 05:16 AM

Well he hasn't heard number 4 but it was mainly Dark Side Of The Moon he hated. And onwards to The Wall as well.

MattSharpIsCool 07-24-2007 07:17 PM

I've been trying to get my dad to change his mind about Floyd, but I'm about to give up. He's disliked them for 30+ years now, so my efforts are seemingly futile.

Although he did like Animals a bit, and the late David-led stuff a little.

Leper 07-25-2007 12:05 AM

If I were you I'd give up. If he's anything like my dad then he's too stubborn to take musical suggestions from you and will stick with what he knows lol

MrConeman 07-25-2007 06:39 AM

Luckily for me my dad helped me get into Floyd. :)
I'm still bitter that he and my mum were at one of the 1994 Earls Court shows.

Gonads 07-25-2007 11:10 AM

I love Pink Floyd but the only album I have is the live album "Delicate Sound of Thunder", which albums are the best?

Riva 07-25-2007 05:59 PM

That's a tough question. What disc of Delicate Sound Of Thunder do you like the best? Or rather, what songs off the album are your favourites?

And for people I know who I'm trying to get into Floyd, I either burn them a sampler with a couple songs from every album, or I just play Ummagumma (the studio disc) and see which songs they like the best. It usually works well.
