Ive always believed that a good keyboardist will greatly improve any band... however settle for a b-grade one and your music will always sound cheesy....

gillygan 12-12-2005 09:54 AM

He In wait for sleep the keyboard is sick, and then when it goes back to that riff at 8:10 in Learning to live, :) The solo at 9:10 in learning to live is awsome aswell.

I attempt Keyboard every now and then.

ghettoeddo 12-12-2005 12:16 PM

i used to play classical piano, but that's a whole diff. ball game than rock.

sometimes, i think jordan's playing is focused too much on showing off rather than the overall musical effect. take his keyboard solo on live at budokan. the opening part is just...wankage. so in that sense, KM>JR. however, JR has his moments and overall, JR>KM.

switch JR and KM around and then i'll agree.

Keyboards in rock are awesome. especially with Rush, DT and Black Mages

Cool. Got any mp3s of your band?

You'd better keep on coming into the DT thread.....or else....:smash:

Ah? Ah?[/QUOTE]

I'd say: JR=KM>DS. I love KM compositions, but JR owns everyone talent wise, save Keith Emerson, Rick Wakeman, Jon Lord, and Ray Maznarek.

So, has anyone heard the interviews with LaBrie, Rudess, and Portney on Deliciousagony.com?

Speedy Fingers 12-12-2005 05:30 PM

I'm not in a band, but here's a clip of me playing over a backing track that a friend sent me.

Wah? I someone said they were in a DT tribute band, it's probably me seeing things...

the opening part to that solo makes me cringe every time i hear it. for starters, his tone is just aweful. it amazes me how he can get such a terrible sound to come out of such amazing equipment. and then, as you said, the playing can only be described as pure wankage.

the second part of the solo owns though. i love how he gradually brings in more percussion parts as it progresses.

The bit where it sounds like a guitar though sounds cool.

I usually skip the first part of that solo, it is pretty boring. The second part is awesome, I like the solo on LSFNY better though.

I was lstenin to sampes on amazon, and heard a song thats just a keyboard solo, and swore it was guitar.

ghettoeddo 12-12-2005 09:56 PM

yea jordan says on the budokan commentary that since there's no 2nd guitarrist, sometimes he creates countermelodies or plays guitar-style riffs. so basically he's learned to play like a guitarrist.

i still wish he wouldn't do all that WEIOWEIOKFNOETOBOOOOOGGGGGGGGWEOIWOIOFAGROOOOOOAANNNNNWEIWEIOOO business.

IbanezSamurai 12-13-2005 12:25 AM

Imagine if all the sudden they decide to add another guitarist.

ghettoeddo 12-13-2005 12:30 AM

i'd slap them and ask why?
honestly, they don't need another one. i sincerely hope they don't go through anymore lineup changes as i think they've finally solidly established their sound. although witha band that sounds completely diff. on every CD, that doesn't matter too much huh?

ヴェア ラッセル 12-13-2005 01:10 AM

Anybody knows how to obtain a bootleg of the DSOTM cover concert they put on?

horseypie 12-13-2005 03:10 AM

It is coming out as an official bootleg hopefully soon, so that should be sweet. There were cameras at the show in London, so hopefully there will be a DVD as well, I can't wait for it.

You can get the DSOTM bootleg off dimeadozen, if you're so inclined. For some reason though, the bass riff to Money is played on guitar (well, certainly sounds like it). I have no idea why, though.

He can get a sound ten times the size of any other guitarists. Would the DSOTM front cover be available anywhere?

Is anyone else here really excited about the new OSI album? It's gonna be amazing!

It's on both bass and guitar.
