Anarcho Poser 02-23-2006 04:07 PM
i attempted to make walnut-butter figuring it would be simmular to almond-butter witch is simmular to peanut-butter.. but its not.. its nasty
Which witch is which?

Liebensaft 02-23-2006 04:14 PM

I'll stick with electric. Upright basses are intimidating and expensive.

Lukeh 02-23-2006 04:16 PM
should i not use the keg?
i've seen basses out of gas tanks and whatnot.
I don't see what's wrong with using a keg so long as you can manage to get the rest of the bass in decent working order. It should have an odd sound, but if it works I guess it'll be a nice cheap punx alternative.

Brain Toad 02-23-2006 04:46 PM
who wants to help me put together a makeshift stand up bass???

i have 1/2 keg i really want to use to be the body... but that’s all i got.

i'm stumped on what i should use for a neck?
on how i should put the neck into the keg- though the Tap hole(after i knock it out)? or just on top?
what kind of strings- i think some heavy cords or weed whacker cords will do.

should i get some holes in my keg for sound?

i can't find anything on the net for this stuff. thanks in advance

edit: i think i will go with a board though the handles, and put up my neck that way
upside down tub + broom stick + rubber band = bass
is there a diffrence between painting on real leather and the fake stuff, im tryin my first DIY thing so im tryin blitzkrieg bop on a wallet of mine. its the easyest thing i can think of. also i cant remember wot paint to use, i think it was acrylic and something else but i cant remeber it if there were any other parts. thanks
I'm not sure if there's a difference. DON'T use acrylic paint it'll last like 2 days and then start to crack and fall off, faster if it's thicker. Sharpie oil-based paint markers work decently, but it's hard to get a solid white coat since the pen lifts up the other layers of paint when it goes along. What I found works best is an airbush paint. I have this 'createx' airbrush paint from a craft store and it's not fallen off so far.
My family own's a stand up. It cost us about 100-200 dollars. One day a friend of ours looked on his front porch, and there was this upright bass just... there. He lives in a really tiny house, so he couldn't keep it there, so he dropped it off at our house, and soon after said we could have it. It was pretty damaged (back falling off, new bridge needed...) so we got it repaired.

It's a pretty kickass thing to just find.

Wha! I am extremely jealous! I wish an upright bass would be on my porch one day when I came home!

I could use some help with a DIY birthday project. I saw a magnetic poetry thing, but when I went to go buy it, it was gone, so I figured I'd try my hand at making one. I would really appreciate any help with design, materials (doesn't have to be magnet but must accomplish the ease of making 'poetry' etc etc), etc. I was gonna print out a bunch of words that would go with the subject and cut them out with a straight razour, but I have no base, I.E. a place for them to stick to in order to make the poetry.

You can buy a strip of magnet which is sticky on one side at most craft stores, and when you print out the words, just stick them on the the magnets. But make sure to put them under something heavy for a bit to flatten them, since the magnet strips usually come coiled. I don't know how much they are, not very expensive I don't think.

Back in the day, my friends and I would cut up things (like... magic cards) and go up to domino's and ask for free magnets. We would peel off the ad, or just glue over it (glueing over it is easier).

Then again, we were little kids so they put up with us. As someone much older asking for free magnets, I'm not sure if it'll work. Worth a try though.

Although I guess the craft store magnet strip would be better.

Thanks a lot, that really did help. I'm gonna try to get some free magnets first, and if not, I'll stop by a store. Thanks to you and Nick.

I added this guy to the back of my Adicts shirt just a few minutes ago. I did it in red, and it looks pretty good. http://stencilpunx.mattrunningnaked.com/stencils/adicts_blackonwhite.gif

Ghostfire3 02-24-2006 10:32 PM

Do you have a picture of the shirt?

iam2000pounds 02-24-2006 10:34 PM

No, I don't have a camera to use.

I'm working on try to make a water bottle holder for the side of my backpack out of duct tape, but so far it has been unsuccessful.

Doesn't seem like it would be that hard... maybe I'm wrong though.

Brain Toad 02-24-2006 11:09 PM

it doesn't seem like it, but it is.

I've revamped my idea and made a little bottle cozy for the bottle and just attach that to the side.

I would've thought that would be the original plan.

Brain Toad 02-24-2006 11:15 PM

My orginial plan was a duct tape swatch attached at the ends like a open pocket.

So in my speech class, our next assignment is an informative speech. The teacher said that you can do a "how-to" speech, and I'm kind of leaning that way, and thinking of teaching some DIY stuff. If not that, I'll inform people about Wheatland Music Festival.

So I thought maybe how to tie-dye. But... eh.

And I thought maybe stenciling for the purpose of shirt design (preaching graffiti in class could get me a low grade).

I need visual aids, which would be very easy with the stenciling or tie-dying, and I think I could also drag one or both of those on for 5-7 minutes, which is how long the speech has to be. But will highschool kids (11 freshman, 11 seniors), really care? I guess that doesn't matter.

So any advice? think I can pull of showing how to make stencils in front of a bunch of my school peers? Just stick to informing people about the hippie fest I go to? I have to know for sure what I'm doing by monday.

I found that the best thing is to not plan it all out to much and to just talk about something that you know alot about and literally just keep rambling on untill your time is up because if you plan out a speech for 5-7 minutes it will take you ages and i dont think it will be worth it. this is just my opinion.

I think if you use visuals for stencils they would like, you'd at least garner some interest from the people who want to be 'unique' instead of always buying really expensive clothes. Tie dye will probably bore them though unless it's a class full of hippies.

You don't want to go completely ramble because you can get off topic really easily. The best thing to due is plan out the outline and elaborate as you go, like have basic ideas and then elaborate like you're having a conversation with the class.

Do any of you DIYers know where to get a really psychedelic dress shirt like Hendrix or Clapton or Barrett used to wear? eBay has turned up nothing.
