Bitchfork the shit you listen to is a chore to listen through real talk.
I think it's really funny that people swear off my taste because I like onkyo and EAI when at least half the people on the forum haven't even heard a song/album by any people in the field. The thread I made was a half-joking/half-serious sentiment and that's obviously not all I listen to. Most of what I listen to is probably mx approved, i.e. The Mag Fields, Deathprod, Joanna Newsom, etc.

When I have musical conversations with you I think then we can talk about taste differentials, but besides Haz and P13, I haven't discussed music really with any of you to an extent where you can even remotely pin down my taste.

---

For P13 on why TMV-style prog is the equivalent of pouring salt into your urethra:

Terrible vocals; terrible overuse of standard effects that demonstrate no tact, like, the noises that are on the album aren't interesting; choruses are annoying, not catchy; the absurdity to the whole thing makes the mix ironically tame (oxymorons in music can be good or bad) and lulling.

AKA bad progressive rock music is bad.

publicastration 06-08-2011 09:09 PM

TMV are good tho

Bitchfork 06-08-2011 09:09 PM
prog
what a terrible genre label

TMV has more fusion and dub influences than 70s prog influences
tame interpretations of '70s-era avant-prog/Cantebury scene artists with modern technology=progressive rock

who cares about fucking genres shut the fuck up all of u

P13 06-08-2011 09:13 PM

that just sounds like a matter of taste to me, I love his singing, just because something is standard doesn't mean it's derivative (ex OMG THEY'RE USING STANDARD NOTES? WHO THE FUCK DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?!) the noises are fine they are more just meltdowns than actual noise experiments. Their choruses aren't very consistent in songs either. And when they are they are catchy.
They aren't the be-all-end-all of experimental music but they do bring new things to the table every time they write a record, mainly because Omar has a strong background in punk.

WHATEVER YOURE JUST A STUPID 14 YEAR OLD WHO DOESNT KNOW SHIT SHUT UP

and I trust your taste in avant-garde more than anyone, mostly because you enjoy onkyo and EAI. its like you're me in a few years but you're 4 years younger :S
tim > mike real talk
Only good shit he did was Joan of Arc and Cap'n Jazz along with Mike.

Mike's also got Owen and American Football.

Yeah.

@Bitchfork mx and sputnik are different, there's less of a hive mind here than over there.

xMalcolmXx 06-08-2011 09:16 PM

P13 06-08-2011 09:17 PM

lukeskywalkertakingadump 06-08-2011 09:19 PM

most arguments about whether a band is good or bad rely on a matter of taste/preferences, ngl.

2muchket! 06-08-2011 09:23 PM

Okay I've re-positioned my state yall need to shut the fuck up and listen to the police. Always thought it was funny how people would have 'every breath you take' as a song for the first dance at their wedding or perceive it to be a love song, when the lyrics are creepy and stalkerish as fuck.

what are these albums? free improv?

are they performed on acoustic instruments?
what are these albums? free improv?

Saritote II is Taku Sugimoto with Moe Kamura, and they both play guitar (mostly mutes/acoustic) and Moe sings in her bootayful voice. Very short tracks. Composed onkyo; sounds slightly improvised, like a minimal duo with the twins from The Shining on vocals.

A Young Person's Guide to Antoine Beuger is 8 people on different bowed instruments for about 30 mins and then (solo?) guitar for 25-ish. Lowercase, free improv and modern classical are all huge parts of this release.

Quartet is Nikos Veliotis on cello, Taku Sugimoto on guitar and I believe E-bow, Kazushige Kinoshita on violin and Taku Unami on contraguitar and it is chamber music that has ties with free improvisation.

You'll probably like Saritote II the most, Quartet the second most and Antoine Beuger the least (just because of the Sekundenklange (Some Sounds, Just Seconds), Music for an Instrument with Decaying Sounds suites, which are intensely minimal/take the Wandelweiser and Taku Sugimoto aesthetic to a literal apex with the intense amount of silences and clean major notes involved. The Tanzaku Suites you'll probably dig if you're cool with some decaying swells of improvised strings.

Bitchfork 06-08-2011 09:44 PM

oh so yeah all acoustics here.

P13 06-08-2011 09:47 PM
