anyone can answer our question
Yeah that is what I wanted to do.. I wanted to clean it proper till my new strings arive :)
I have taken off all the strings on the basses I've had and I haven't noticed any warping so i thing it's cool to do that.. No need to worry, I did that, boiled the strings and put them back on again, because there's no pressure I can't see how it would warp but you can never be too sure  :)

PaulSimonon 02-08-2005 03:09 PM

My strings keep breaking.... ARGGG!!!

kilian 02-08-2005 03:10 PM
but you can never be too sure  :)
quoted for the truth :thumb:

I will have flatwounds (finally) on them next thursday/friday. If I don't like them: too bad, need to gig with them saturday

But I suppose I like them :amaze:

Bass_swede 02-08-2005 03:11 PM

I hate when strings break! You feel like a idiot :(

Hehe, I've never tried flats, but they look really comfy! Have to pick some up when i have a lot of money to spend :)

PaulSimonon 02-08-2005 03:13 PM

Yeah, but not because of burrs or anything, more because I slap constanly and my fingerstyle is played very near the bridge.

kilian 02-08-2005 03:16 PM

@ paul: hmm.. try heavy gauge strings?

@ Erik: I've played on the same bass as mine with flatwounds on them and I loooooved it, I hope I still get a bit of a 'growl' to cut through the guitars + drums from my band. (jazz bass)

Jamie 02-08-2005 03:18 PM

slapping with flats is great! I still get that metallic tone out of mine

Oh and check out my thread called Write the theme toon... sing the theme toon...

its a competition for theme tunes!

Dieforitall89 02-08-2005 03:19 PM

Messanger of fear inside...dark deception kills the light..

PaulSimonon 02-08-2005 03:21 PM

Naw. I'm fine, I just hate them breaking.

Nice! Do you have a fender jazz?

Left Shoe 02-08-2005 03:22 PM

i never break strings *is god*

Do you have steel or nickel flats Jamie? And what kind of? And the growl (if that's possible with your bass ;) )

EDIT:

Erik: no I have a real (yeah dude!) richwood jazz bass.. I like this baby so much so I don't need a fender by now, only the pickups aren't so great. But I will replace them with Dimarzio Model J's soon. I've played some fenders in at the guitar shop, but I didn't have something like: WOW that is waaaaaaaaaaaay better. To be honest I liked my basses neck more than the original fender? :amaze:

neal_672 02-08-2005 03:31 PM

Hey all

Jamie 02-08-2005 03:31 PM

I have them on my squier p-bass fretless. They are rotosound swing 77's 45-105 (the best flats in the world!!) i think they are steel

Cool! Sounds sommat like the relationship to my OLP MM2 :) I just love that thing, i think i got a really good copy because I tried another OLP MM2 yesterday and it didn't feel the way mine does and it didn't have the well balanced meaty/growly tone mine has :thumb:

kilian 02-08-2005 03:37 PM

Neal: Hello there!

Jamie: aha ok! I will check out rotosounds some day.. ;)

Erik: That is really nice! Isn't it? I mean: when you have a copy bass and you really like it: why would you buy the 'real' thing. Those things aren't always 'better'. As long as you can get the sound out of your bass that you like, you don't need the extra ordinary ultra expensive top of the line bass.. :) When I really hear a tone difference, then we are talking about switching basses. But first: upgrade my baby now!

neal_672 02-08-2005 03:39 PM

How is everyone today?

That is my exace thoughts! I thinks the sound often is forgotten behind the brandname if you understand what I mean.. Upgrades can be good too, but it's hard to know exactly how different the tone will get..

kilian 02-08-2005 03:41 PM

HA we agree here :D

Well, you have a lot of sites which let you 'hear' the different tones between different pickups.
http://www.subsonicfamily.com/bass/session1.html
for example..

You can always fiddle around with strings, those things are one of the main tone changers :thumb:

Sound and brandname are verrrry close, OK call me a beginner.. But I have ears and I can hear quite a few differences and I can tell you what I like and what I don't like. Sure, there are bad bad baaaad ripp-offs.. but there are some brands in the market that are very good in copying (or even improve?) basses.. :)

Today I found out something interesting about my drama teacher. It turns out that he is the younger brother of the drama teacher that I had last year at a different school. When I asked him about it, he told me and we both found it amusing that his older brother was my drama teacher last year at a school that is 30-45 minutes away.
