futuro: 42, or seeing akira jimbo live

reminds me of a story my critical thinking lecturer told me

about 15 years ago, a kid contested one of his statements in class. so he told the kid to look it up in the textbook. the kid did, and apologised for being wrong.
my lecturer then told him to look who wrote the book

"you did, sir"
"so, how do you know its right if you just told me it was wrong"
"its in a book sir, you cant put wrong things in books"

Seafroggys 09-27-2006 02:04 AM

wow, that's kid an idiot. Its one thing to think that teachers are always right, its another to think that they are wrong sometimes when they lecture but are always right when they put their words on paper.

Kae so. Underoath, Moneen and Silverstein PWND.

Moneens drummer (Dont know his name) was playing a red sparkle Pork Pie kit. Twas awesome. And I saw the 22"x24" Acrylic monster.

I'm seing Silverstein again in December.

K so i got back from the RHCP concert about 8.5 hours ago. It was the most awesomest thing i've ever seen. The volta were pretty much exactly how rohbit described in his thread but i still commend the lead singer for having such a great voice.

The Chili's were great. They played exactly what i wanted to hear live. Soul to Squeeze, Throw Away Your Television, I Could Have Lied, and Don't Forget Me. It was amazing. Some dude from the Volta stepped in and played the percussion part on Hump De Bump. Except he played it all on bongos. It was pretty sweet. Amazing night, and Flea walking off the stage on his hands was a perfect cap to the show!
Yeah, but your in college. You can usually battle the professor and call out on his/her ideas and such. Its not like high school where you have to do what they say or else.

I would totally take it up on her, publically in class, and state that good writing is maybe not entirely subjective (liking leetspeak doesn't make it good writing) but a good chunk of it is. Then your paper can compare and constrast what is subjective and what is objective.

Then again, from what you're saying, you are doing this already, which is good. I just would have called out on the teacher in the middle of class. It would have been fun.

And you only just started learning the MLA format? I had to use since I was in Middle School
Actually, the subject is just "What Is Good Writing?"

And I think that it's subjective. It's nothing more than an opinion, seriously. And I've found plenty o' evidence to back that up.

The teacher is a moron, and is expecting "Good writing is good grammar and clear sentences and blah dee blah dee blah dee blah dee blah."

Which just does not work for me.

No, I've been using MLA formatting, but for some reason it didn't click with me that double space = 1/2 the essay.

lmldrummer 09-27-2006 09:01 AM

juniors at my high school have to take a writing test today, so i'm stuck in a computer class with nothing to do for two hours,

anybody else on?

Corkofski 09-27-2006 09:38 AM

what is mla formatting?

lmldrummer 09-27-2006 09:43 AM

it's a way of citing sources in a bibliography

easybib.com i think it is helps you through it if you need it

lmldrummer 09-27-2006 10:20 AM

the guy next to me is looking up bullet belts and wearing girl pants

i'm glad this class is almost over

Corkofski 09-27-2006 10:49 AM

Seafroggys 09-27-2006 12:00 PM
what is mla formatting?
its much more then just citing your sources, its also a style of writing.

Josiah 09-27-2006 12:04 PM

Nah, it's not a style of writing.

It's a style of formating.

There are many formating styles besides MLA. Chicago, APA, Turabian, and AMA are some others.

MatthewMeredith 09-27-2006 12:06 PM

But what font is MLA in? Lucuida Sans in size 12 is waaay bigger than Arial.

Josiah 09-27-2006 12:12 PM

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/557/01/

Should have everything you need. Times New Roman or Courier in 12 are the fonts MLA uses.

oooh i'm almost to 5,000 rep points.. hahaha
